Floor joint sealing in Stoer

Send drawings, photos or a joint schedule, or tell us about the site, and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

What happens if it’s left?

Every jolt over a broken joint passes into the truck, the load and the driver. Wheels and bearings wear faster and loads can shift, which nobody budgets for. A properly filled joint smooths the route. Buildings that aren’t in daily use, such as halls and seasonal premises, may let water in unnoticed, so a failed joint has time to cause damage. Resealing early avoids that.

Every site prices differently: the joint sizes, the specified product, access and working hours each have a bearing. Send the details and a fixed figure follows.

Floor joint sealing in Stoer, done properly

We have been sealing commercial joints since 2005. Applicators carry CSCS cards and work to your site rules, and the business is CHAS accredited and a Constructionline member, with public liability insurance in place. Finished floor joints in Stoer carry our 12-month guarantee. Most enquiries involve joint edges breaking up under truck wheels and untidy open joints in a retail unit, across retail and showroom floors, forklift and pallet-truck routes and loading bays. Whether you call it commercial sealant work, mastic application or joint sealing, in Stoer it comes down to the same thing: failed joints cut out, faces prepared and the right sealant laid to the right depth.

For outside joints near Stoer, the Scottish weather sets the timetable: dry faces and the right temperature are essential. Inside slabs aren’t affected and can be scheduled around the occupier.

We stand behind the joints we seal with a 12-month guarantee. It covers how we prepared and applied the sealant, and if something we did falls short, we return to it.

Questions we’re asked in Stoer

Does the sea air around Stoer change the choice of sealant?

It can. Wind-driven rain and, closer to the shore, salt air are harder on external joints. That puts more weight on product choice, primers where the manufacturer specifies them, and correct joint sizing.

Is Stoer too far out for you?

Not at all: smaller places are covered as well as towns. We cover the whole of Scotland. Send photographs and a list of what needs doing, and we’ll plan the job to need as few trips as possible.

Will your applicators have CSCS cards?

Yes. If you need card details for site access, let us know and we’ll send them with the quote.

How long do sealant joints last?

There isn’t a single answer, since movement, weather, cleaning and use all affect it. Regular checks let you plan resealing before leaks or damage.

Do you guarantee industrial floor joints?

Our workmanship carries a 12-month guarantee and the work is covered by public liability insurance.

Why is there a gap next to the joint filler?

Young concrete carries on shrinking for a long time and a stiff filler can separate down one side. It is normally dealt with by topping up.

How do you choose the sealant?

A specification, where there is one, decides it. Without one, the joint decides: how much it moves, what it bonds to and whether it’s wet, trafficked or fire-rated.

Traffic, movement and joints around Stoer

The sea is no more than about 1 mile from Stoer. Coastal yards and decks give their joints salt and wet weather to deal with, not just wheels, which is why split joints are worth sealing before the edges deteriorate. The west of Scotland, where Stoer is, gets more rain than the east. Open joints in external slabs take a lot of water. External sealing is booked for dry spells, with some give in the dates.

In and around Stoer, the right filler or sealant for each joint depends on the traffic and the movement it takes. Around Stoer, open joints collect water and debris, and the arrises are the next to go.

Stoer is about 38 miles east of Stornoway, in Highland. Anywhere in IV27, the process is the same: send details, get a fixed quote, we seal, and the work is guaranteed. We work across 256 places in Highland, large and small.

We take on floor joints across the IV27 postcode area. We also cover Stor (1 mile north-east), Lochinver (5 miles south-east), An Druim Beag (6 miles north-east), Scourie More (12 miles north-east) and Scourie (12 miles north-east) for floor joints. Island and remote sites need extra planning, with travel, ferry crossings where needed and weather to allow for, so give the site location in your enquiry.

Maintenance after handover

Sealant joints are maintenance items, and their life depends on movement, exposure, cleaning and use. We suggest:

  • Stop forks and pallets being dragged across joints
  • Make joint checks part of your floor inspections
  • Keep grit out of unfilled joints in the meantime
  • Allow for topping up joints as a new slab settles

A routine walk of the busiest aisles shows how the joints are holding up. Watch for filler pulling away from an edge, fresh chipping or grit collecting and keep photographs so changes are easy to compare.

Regular inspection catches failing fills before the edges go. We can quote a programme that starts with the busiest areas so nothing is left to fail.

Doing it in-house

Site maintenance staff can often handle a short internal joint. The usual problems come from preparation: sealing over old material, sealing onto damp or dusty surfaces, or a product that can’t take the movement.

Redoing a failed joint typically costs more than getting it right at the outset, since all of it has to come out and the faces be cleaned back again. For that reason, many FMs and contractors use a sealant specialist from the outset.

Our process

We bring the products specified for the job, along with primers and backing rod. Joint faces are cleaned back to sound, dry surfaces, the manufacturer’s primer is applied where it’s called for, and each bead is tooled to a neat concave finish. Travel to smaller Scottish places like Stoer is planned so the job is finished in one visit where possible, so photographs, sizes and a full list matter. External joints need a dry spell as well.

  1. We look at joint widths, edge condition and the traffic on each route.
  2. A fixed quote follows, listing the treatment for each area and the order of work.
  3. Old filler, debris and contamination are cut or routed out back to clean concrete.
  4. Dust is extracted from the joint and primer applied where the manufacturer specifies it.
  5. We fill each joint to depth and finish it flush so wheels roll straight across.
  6. The area is handed back once it has cured enough to take traffic.

What sealant work can’t fix

Being straight saves everyone time. Fresh joints won’t solve:

  • Uneven floors that need grinding or levelling
  • Spalled arrises, which need an edge repair first
  • Cracks across panels caused by settlement or overload

If in doubt, give us a call on 01277 525 020 or email us and we will say what we think before you book.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Construction joints
  • Forklift and pallet-truck routes
  • Loading bays
  • Joints along racking aisles
  • Saw-cut induced joints
  • Retail and showroom floors

Surface by surface

Saw-cut induced joints

Saw cuts are made soon after the slab is cast so shrinkage cracks follow a line. They start narrow and widen as the concrete dries, and on truck routes they need a filler that supports the edges.

Forklift and pallet-truck routes

Truck routes take traffic all day, so their joints wear fastest. Semi-rigid fillers are widely used on these routes to hold the edges up.
