What coloured and colour-matched sealant covers

On many jobs, a sealant joint is part of the finish as much as part of the weatherproofing. A bright white bead around an anthracite frame, or a grey line through pale limestone, pulls the eye straight to the joint. Architects, brand managers and shop fitters often specify sealant colours for that reason, by RAL reference, by frame colour or simply to suit stone, brick or cladding. We apply coloured and colour-matched sealants in shop fits, hotels and offices and on facades, alongside the rest of the sealant package. Sealants come in a wide range of standard colours, and what is available is set by the product the joint requires: a facade silicone, a sanitary silicone and a hybrid polymer won’t all come in the same shades. We confirm what is offered for the specified product before ordering, so the colour choice and the technical choice are settled together rather than one undoing the other.

We work across South East England, Greater London and all of Scotland. Our workmanship carries a 12-month guarantee, we’re CHAS accredited and a Constructionline member, and our applicators hold CSCS cards.

How it works

  1. Tell us the finish to match: a RAL reference, a frame colour, a material sample or photos.
  2. We identify the product the joint needs, then check which colours it comes in.
  3. We confirm the nearest available colours with you before anything is ordered.
  4. You receive a fixed quote with the product and colour set out for each area.
  5. Joints are prepared, masked where a crisp line matters, then sealed and tooled neatly.
  6. Finished joints are checked with you against the agreed colour.

Colour comes after performance

The joint’s job decides the product first: movement, substrate, wet or dry, inside or out. Only then is a colour chosen from what that product offers. Picking a colour first and forcing a product to fit it is how unsuitable sealants end up in moving joints. We’ll confirm the colours available for the specified product, and if a requested shade isn’t offered, we’ll give you the closest options.

Stone and masonry

Natural stone and older brick vary from piece to piece, so a single sealant colour rarely matches every unit. Some products can also stain stone, which is why neutral-cure sealants made for stone are commonly specified. We aim for a colour that sits quietly against the surrounding material rather than promising an exact match. On mixed facades, it can help to agree a test length in an inconspicuous spot before the full run is sealed.

Brand standards and shop fits

Retail and hospitality brands often set finishes for every outlet, and sealant colour can be part of that. If your fit-out has a finishes schedule, send it with the enquiry. We’ll price to it and flag any product where the listed colour isn’t available, before it becomes a problem on site.

Matching existing joints

On a repair, new sealant sits next to joints that have weathered for years. Even a correct colour reference can look different beside sealant that has faded, chalked or collected dirt. Where the old joints have failed across a whole elevation or room, replacing the full run usually gives a more even result than patching sections. We’ll talk through the options when we quote, so you can weigh appearance against scope.

Why it’s worth doing now

On a shop front, hotel lobby or feature facade, a joint in the wrong colour stands out more than almost anything else. Choosing a sealant that suits the joint and matches the finish means the joint does its job without spoiling the look the designer intended.

What affects the quote

We don’t publish set prices, because no two buildings are the same. Send details and we’ll give you a fixed quote before we start. The main things that affect it are:

  • How many metres of joint there are, and how many areas, elevations or sites
  • How much failed sealant has to come out, and how hard it is
  • Joint size, depth and whether backing rod or primer is needed
  • Access: height, scaffold or MEWP access arranged by others, occupied areas
  • The product the joint needs (and colour, where it matters)
  • Programme, phasing and site requirements such as permits and inductions

What a good quote includes

  • All failed sealant removed, never sealed over
  • The product named for each joint type
  • What the 12-month guarantee covers
  • When each area can be used again
  • Who is doing the work, their CSCS cards and the insurance in place
  • What site paperwork and records are included

Aftercare

Clean coloured joints with mild, non-abrasive products; strong solvents and abrasive pads can mark the surface. Keep a note of the product and colour used so any future repair or extension can be matched.

Coloured and colour-matched sealant: common questions

Can you match a RAL colour?

Many sealants come in colours close to common RAL references. We’ll confirm the colours available for the specified product before ordering.

Is coloured sealant less durable than white?

Colour itself doesn’t make a sealant weaker. Durability depends on the product type, the joint design and the conditions it faces.

Can coloured sealant be used in washrooms?

Sanitary silicones come in a range of colours, so washroom joints can be matched to fittings or tiles within that range.

Can sealant be painted instead?

Silicone generally can’t be painted. Some hybrid and polyurethane sealants are paintable and may suit joints that will be decorated.

Will a colour match hide old repairs?

Only once the old sealant is removed. We cut out failed or discoloured joints and replace them rather than sealing over them.

Do you give a fixed price before you start?

Yes. Send photos, drawings or a joint schedule, or we can visit, and we’ll give you a fixed quote with the scope in writing before any work starts.

Are you accredited and insured?

Yes. We’re CHAS accredited and a Constructionline member, our applicators hold CSCS cards, and we carry £5m public liability insurance.
