Photos, a specification or a quick description of the joints is enough to start a fixed quote.

About our fire stopping in Atherfield Green

The test standards are BS EN 1366-3 for penetration seals and BS EN 1366-4 for linear joints. That classification, such as EI 60 or EI 120, belongs to the product in its tested arrangement. Reproducing the tested arrangement on site is the part we take care of. Most enquiries involve open linear gaps along the top of fire-resisting walls and fire seals cut back for extra cables and never reinstated, on small duct penetrations where the tested detail allows, joints between fire-resisting walls and floors and service gaps in risers. Whether you call it commercial sealant work, mastic application or joint sealing, the work in Atherfield Green is the same: failed joints cut out, faces prepared and the right sealant laid to the right depth.

For a smaller site near Atherfield Green, we plan to do all the penetrations in one go, so send the specification and photographs first. We install to the specification and the manufacturer’s guidance, leaving design and sign-off with the designer and building control.

What our 12-month guarantee covers is the way we did the job: the preparation, the sealing and the tooling. Damage, later alterations by others and movement beyond what the joint was designed for sit outside it.

On site: what to expect

We schedule the visit to fit the site hours and access windows you give us. While we’re working, the area stays contained and tidy, and we check in with your contact before moving on to each new area. Jobs in and around smaller places like Atherfield Green are usually planned as a single visit, so we ask for photographs and rough sizes first. That way the right products come on the day.

  1. First we confirm the product and tested details named in the specification.
  2. Openings are measured and grouped by detail.
  3. Old or wrong materials are cut out.
  4. Mineral wool or other backing is fitted where required.
  5. We gun the sealant in to the specified depth around each service and tool it.
  6. We walk the completed areas with you and confirm the records agreed at quote stage.

What we need from you

  • Warn occupants and staff about the work
  • Share the asbestos register for older buildings
  • Agree which areas must stay open

Advice

Leave it or put it right?

Leave a penetration open and smoke and fire can cross into the next compartment far earlier than intended. Putting it right is normally a modest job when the openings are accessible. Left until ceilings are closed or a tenant moves in, the same work costs more access and more disruption. One visit to deal with every failing joint makes more sense than several trips to a place like Atherfield Green, rather than one at a time. Send photos of each area and we will quote for the lot.

A quote for service penetrations depends on how many there are, their condition and the access, and any specification that applies. Ask us for a fixed quote.

Different surfaces, different methods

Drylining partitions

Holes in board are often cut larger than needed. If the gap exceeds the tested range, sealant alone won’t do and we’ll tell you what the detail says instead.

Plastic pipes

In a fire, plastic pipework melts away and leaves an opening. Some intumescent sealants are tested on smaller plastic pipes, though larger ones normally call for a collar or wrap. We check the pipe material and diameter against the detail before we start.

Questions we are asked in Atherfield Green

Is Atherfield Green too far out for you?

Not at all: smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and the South East counties. We plan jobs in smaller places so return trips are kept to a minimum.

Would you work within a site like Whitecroft Hospital?

Yes, healthcare and care buildings are part of our work. We follow the site’s permits, sign-in and infection-control procedures in every area.

Can you follow the specification on our project?

Yes. Include it with the drawings when you ask for a quote, and we’ll price the work to it.

Is sealant suitable for all service openings?

No. It depends on the tested detail for that wall or floor and service. Collars, wraps, batts and boards exist for openings sealant doesn’t cover.

What will the job cost?

Every job gets its own fixed quote. For yours, call 01277 525 020 or send details through our quote form with a description of the work.

Is the BS 476 change in 2029 relevant to fire stopping?

For buildings in England, Approved Document B removes BS 476 references from 2 September 2029. Classification to BS EN 13501-2 becomes the expected evidence, though transitional rules apply. Scotland follows its own Technical Handbook, including clause 2.1.14 on service penetrations.

How do I request a quote?

There are four steps: send details, get a quote, we seal, guaranteed. Step one needs little more than photos and a postcode.

Keeping the joints sound

Once the work is signed off, these steps help:

  • Report damaged or disturbed seals as soon as they’re spotted
  • Put resealing into every M&E and fit-out package
  • Settle who seals which penetrations at the start of a project
  • Ask which product is in place before decorating

Don’t patch a fire-rated seal with anything outside its tested detail. Repairs need the same product and detail as the original, or a new specification from the designer.

Looking at service areas on a regular cycle pays off. A cracked or disturbed seal found early is a small job.

Fire-rated sealing for Atherfield Green buildings

For England, the fire stopping of penetrations is dealt with in Approved Document B. Its BS 476 references are being withdrawn from 2 September 2029, with BS EN 13501-2 classification taking over, subject to transitional arrangements. Either way, we install the specified product to its tested detail.

For buildings in and around Atherfield Green, fire-rated sealant is installed where it is specified, to the manufacturer’s tested detail.

When to call us in Atherfield Green

Head-of-wall joints and wall-to-wall junctions are frequent weak points. Deflection and building movement can open these gaps, and the wrong product can split as a result. Linear joint details set a width range and movement capability, and the seal has to sit within them.

Clients normally get in touch after noticing something like this:

  • Old intumescent sealant that has split away
  • Non-fire-rated filler around services
  • Fire-stopping items raised at inspection or handover
  • Improvised or mixed-product fire seals

Theatres, wards and plant rooms at sites like Whitecroft Hospital, 4.5 miles to the north-east of Atherfield Green, all have compartment walls crossed by services.
