Expansion joint sealing for Hattingley sites

Tell us what needs sealing and where, with photos or drawings if you have them, and we’ll price it.

How we handle expansion joint sealing in Hattingley

Joint design counts for as much as the sealant itself. Joint width must suit the movement and the movement class of the sealant. For wider joints, the width-to-depth ratio is often around 2:1, as the manufacturer advises. We work on brickwork movement joints, precast concrete panel joints and blockwork control joints, and what we’re called in for most is chipped joint edges on forklift routes and joints packed with grit and debris. Looking for mastic applicators who cover Hattingley? We’ve been sealing commercial buildings since 2005, CHAS accredited and a Constructionline member.

Jobs around smaller places like Hattingley are planned so the whole job is done in one visit, with the right materials on hand. Note joint widths and the traffic that uses them, and we’ll take it from there.

Every job ends the same way: guaranteed. You get a 12-month guarantee on our workmanship, and the quote explains what it covers.

Different surfaces, different methods

Internal floor movement joints

Wheeled traffic chips floor joint edges that aren’t supported. We match the product to the traffic and the movement flagging broken arrises before sealing.

Podium joints

Podiums take foot traffic, planters and weather. We choose a product that copes with feet, wheels and weather.

What sealant work can’t fix

Sealant solves a lot, but not everything, and we’d rather tell you before you spend money. It won’t fix:

  • Broken or spalled joint edges, which need repairing before any sealant goes in
  • Proprietary pre-formed expansion joint systems
  • Structural movement beyond what the joints were designed for (that needs a structural engineer)

Not sure which it is? You can ring 01277 525 020 or send details through our quote form and we’ll tell you honestly.

Your questions answered

Is Hattingley too small for you to travel to?

No. Small places get the same service as large ones. We work across Greater London and the South East. Send photographs and a list of what needs doing, and we’ll plan the job to need as few trips as possible.

Can you take on a job at a hospital such as Alton Community Hospital?

Yes. Healthcare sites are among the places we work. Each area is agreed with the ward or department and the estates team in advance.

Does weather matter for sealant work?

Outside, yes. Sealant needs a dry joint and a temperature within the product’s range, so damp, frosty or very cold days can stop external work. Inside work is seldom held up.

Will you come and look before quoting?

It depends on the job. Straightforward work can often be priced from photos and measurements, and bigger or more complex jobs normally get a visit.

Do you work to architects’ specifications?

Yes. We follow the specification, along with the manufacturer’s installation guidance, and any queries are raised before we start.

How do we ask for a quote?

You can use the quote form on this site; alternatively, call the office on 01277 525 020 or send photos by email. Photos, drawings or a joint schedule help us quote quickly.

Do the joint edges need to be sound before sealing?

Sound edges are essential. Where they’ve broken up, we will tell you they need repairing first, so the new seal has something to grip.

Expansion joint sealing in Hattingley: the local picture

Hattingley is in the South East, one of the UK’s drier regions. External slab and deck joints still need a dry, clean joint to seal, while winter salting gets into any joint left open. Central London is about 50 miles from Hattingley. Distribution warehouses and industrial estates are common around the motorway corridors that serve the capital, and their floor joints take forklift and pallet-truck traffic all day.

On industrial estates such as Barton Industrial Estate, 1 mile north-west of Hattingley, saw-cut floor joints, loading bay slabs and yard joints take the heaviest traffic. For an estate such as Alton Community Hospital, which lies east of Hattingley, the joints in ramps, decks and long building elevations all need attention over time.

Hattingley is about 5 miles west of Alton, in Hampshire. Looking for expansion joint sealing in Hattingley? We can help, as we do across Hampshire. Hattingley is one of 723 places in Hampshire on our list. Our Southampton page has more on work in that area (20 miles or so).

For managing agents and facilities managers

If you look after buildings for someone else, you need clear quotes and clear reporting. We quote a fixed sum, confirm the scope and walk the finished work with you or your representative.

We work for building owners and managing agents on everything from one building to a spread of sites around Hattingley. One quote can cover more than one site, which keeps the paperwork simple.

Diagnose, treat, sign off

Where the site stays busy, we agree a sequence with your contact so the disruption stays in one area at once. Each area is protected, prepared and sealed, then handed back before we move to the next. Jobs in and around smaller places like Hattingley are usually planned as a single visit, so photographs and measurements up front really help. That way the right products come on the day.

  1. First, the joints are inspected for width, movement and the type of failure.
  2. You get a fixed quote with the product and its movement capability stated.
  3. The failed seal is removed and both faces are cleaned until sound and dry, and we tell you if any edges need repairing first.
  4. We control the depth with backing rod or, in shallow joints, bond-breaker tape.
  5. After any primer the maker requires, the bead is applied and tooled so it grips two sides only.
  6. We check every joint before sign-off, and the work carries our 12-month guarantee.

Before we start on site

  • Move anything stored against the joints
  • Share your working hours and any access restrictions
  • Send asbestos survey details if the building is pre-2000

Looking after the joints

A few simple habits keep the new joints working:

  • Record the sealant used and the date in the O&M file
  • Clear dirt from joint lines during routine cleaning
  • Raise snow-clearing blades over deck joints where possible
  • Look over external and deck joints after a hard winter

Debris does more harm to joint sealant than most people realise. Grit trodden or driven into the joint works at the surface until it tears, especially on car park decks and warehouse floors. Regular sweeping keeps joint lines clear.

A failed deck joint lets water straight through to the level below. That water often carries de-icing salts with it. Sealing the joint promptly stops it at source.

When to call us in Hattingley

Sometimes the sealant holds but the substrate breaks away. Weak or crumbling concrete, brick or render edges give the sealant nothing sound to grip so edge repair has to come before resealing.

Site and facilities staff are often the first to spot these:

  • Rain penetration at brick or block movement joints
  • Torn sealant in brick or block movement joints
  • Layers of sealant in a movement joint
  • Water dripping through deck or ramp joints

Phasing is what makes joint work possible on busy sites such as Lower Soldridge Business Park (1.4 miles south-east of Hattingley): one bay, aisle or car park row at a time.

What your quote should include

  • Is depth set with backing rod, or bond-breaker tape in shallow joints?
  • Their pre-qualification and accreditations
  • How they handle RAMS and site documents
  • How the joint faces will be prepared and primed
