Coloured sealant in Sauchen
We can agree a short trial length before the full run. Sealant can look slightly different once it has cured, and again in different light. Tell us who needs to approve the colour and we will plan for it. Site teams most often ask us about previous reseals that don’t match the original and dirty, discoloured joints in public areas, on hotel bathrooms and public areas, shop-fit joinery and counters and powder-coated and anodised frames. Searching for sealant specialists in Sauchen? Mastic Doctor has worked for contractors, FMs and building owners since 2005, with CSCS-carded applicators.
Scottish weather decides a lot about outside work in a place like Sauchen: sealant needs a dry joint and the right temperature, so external work has a weather window built in. Indoor work isn’t held up by rain.
We stand by our work with a 12-month guarantee. That covers our preparation and application, and if something we did falls short, we return to it.

Doing it in-house
The visible bead is only part of the job. Backing rod, primer where specified and a joint designed to move with the building are where general trades tend to cut corners.
For most general trades, sealant is a sideline. A specialist brings correct preparation, depth control with backing rod and a product suited to that particular joint, which is what makes a joint last.
Honest limits
Sealant solves a lot, but not everything, and we are upfront when that’s the case. These need a different solution:
- Materials with mixed tones that defy a single match
- Overpainting a joint that needs a non-paintable product
- A colour that never alters with age
If in doubt, give us a call on 01277 525 020 or email us and we’ll say what we think.

What Sauchen’s businesses ask us to seal
Sauchen is in the east of Scotland, which is drier than the west. Winter frost and damp frames still stop outside sealing on some days. Outside work is booked with that in mind
If you run an office at a site such as Kirkwood Business Park, 0.7 miles to the east of Sauchen, the sealant at reception desks, tea points and frames ages with each fit-out.
Sauchen is about 8 miles south-west of Inverurie, in Aberdeenshire. Our applicators travel to Sauchen for work on colour-matched joints, handled exactly as we handle every other area. We work across 179 places in Aberdeenshire, large and small. We also cover Aberdeen, around 14 miles from Sauchen.
We cover the AB51 postcode districts for colour-matched joints. Among the streets we cover are Main Street, Cluny Meadows and The Lane, and sites on any of them can send details for a fixed quote. Sites close to Sauchen are covered too, including Midmar (2 miles south-west), Monymusk (3 miles north), Dunecht (3 miles east), Kemnay (4 miles north-east) and Lyne of Skene (4 miles east). Further afield, our area takes in Inverurie (8 miles north-east), Westhill (8 miles east), Banchory (9 miles south), Garioch (8 miles north-east), Kintore (6 miles north-east) and Oldmeldrum (12 miles north-east). Where a site is remote or on an island, travel and materials need planning ahead.

How the job changes by surface
Shop-fit and joinery finishes
In shops, joints are at eye level and inspected by clients. Clean masking and neat tooling matter as much as colour.
Brick and masonry
Movement joints in brickwork are long and visible. A well-chosen colour helps them blend in while the product still suits the movement.
Our process
Site rules come first: signing in, inductions and any permit to work. With the paperwork done, we take the joints in the sequence agreed with you. For work around Sauchen, we aim for one trip, so photographs, sizes and a full list matter. External joints need a dry spell as well.
- We confirm the product the joint needs before talking about colour.
- We compare your RAL reference or sample with the colours made for that sealant.
- A short trial length can be approved before the full run on visible work.
- We take out the existing bead, clean the joints and fit backing.
- The coloured sealant is applied and tooled with clean, masked edges.
Preparing the site
- Tell us which areas need to stay in use
- Clear stock, furniture or equipment away from the joints
- Arrange parking or a loading space

Related advice
What affects the price in Sauchen
The price varies from site to site. Expect it to depend on:
- The product specified
- How accessible the joints are
- Whether old sealant has to be cut out first
- The total length or number of joints
The work involved drives the cost: removing old material, preparing the joints, the product, the access and how the work is phased. Call for a quote.
What we need to price the job
Diagnosis starts before we arrive. Let us know:
- Photos of the joints, close up and from further back
- Whether the building will be occupied during the work
- The product your specification calls for
- Drawings or a marked-up plan, if available
Photos, drawings or a schedule of the joints and a fixed quote comes back to you. Where a site visit makes more sense, we will arrange one.
Common questions from Sauchen clients
Can you match sealant colours for premises in Sauchen?
Yes, we can usually get close to most finishes from the product’s colour range. The quote lists the colours the product is made in.
Is Sauchen too small for you to travel to?
No. Places such as Sauchen are covered as much as the big towns. We work across every Scottish council area. Send photos and a list of what needs doing, and we will plan the job to need as few trips as possible.
What hours do you work?
Mention the site’s hours and access windows in your enquiry, and we’ll plan around them. Our office runs Monday to Friday, 8am until 5pm.
Are you CHAS accredited?
Yes. We’re CHAS accredited, we are a Constructionline member and we use CSCS-carded applicators.
What will the job cost?
That depends on the job: the volume of work, the access, the specified product and how it’s phased. Call for a quote and we’ll price it properly.
What if there’s asbestos in the old mastic?
Asbestos is possible in some older mastics, particularly in buildings from before 2000. Before we disturb old sealant in an older building, we ask to see the asbestos register or survey, and if asbestos is suspected, work stops until it’s tested. Removing asbestos is a job for asbestos specialists, not us.
Which sealant will you use?
Where there’s a specification, we use the product it names. If not, we choose for the movement, the surfaces and the conditions, in line with the manufacturer’s guidance.

Mould and staining discolour coloured joints in some areas. Mould that has grown into sealant usually can’t be cleaned out, so replacement is the fix.
