When something else is needed
A few problems need another trade or a different fix, and we say so rather than covering them up:
- Paintable products in joints they aren’t suited to
- A colour that never alters with age
- Colour variation across natural stone or brick that no single shade can match
If in doubt, give us a call on 01277 525 020 or send photos by email and we will say what we think.
Surfaces we seal
- Powder-coated and anodised frames
- Office fit-out finishes
- Shop-fit joinery and counters
- Cladding panels
- Hotel bathrooms and public areas
- Natural stone and brick
Coloured sealant for commercial buildings in Rattar
Stone, brick and cladding each bring their own colour challenge: sandstone, granite, brick and stained timber rarely have one flat colour. The aim is a sealant colour that sits comfortably against the whole surface, agreed on site where needed. We work on shop-fit joinery and counters, cladding panels and powder-coated and anodised frames, and the failures we’re asked to look at most are weathered sealant that no longer matches and sealant that no longer suits recoated frames. Sealant applicators who only do sealant are a different proposition from a general trade with a gun in the van: in Rattar, that means joint design, primers and backing rod as standard.
For work in and around Rattar, we’d rather do everything on one trip: send photos and a complete list so the right products and colours come on the day. Several jobs nearby can also be put together.
Our 12-month guarantee is about workmanship, not wear and tear. How long a sealant joint lasts depends on movement, exposure, cleaning and use, so we are clear about what is covered before work starts.

From enquiry to sign-off
We begin with a short walk round with whoever looks after the building, to confirm the scope, the order of work and any areas we must keep clear. Then we strip out anything that has failed, prepare every joint and seal it. Where we can, we combine work around Rattar with other jobs nearby, to make the most of each trip. Tell us how flexible your dates are.
- First we agree which sealant type the joint needs.
- We compare the target colour with the colours available.
- You approve the colour, on site if it’s critical.
- We cut out the existing bead, clean and set the depth.
- Edges are masked and the coloured sealant applied and tooled.
- Masking comes off and the work is checked with you.
What we need from you
- Point out any areas we must not close
- Let us know about inductions and permits
- Make sure the joints can be reached

Common questions from Rattar clients
Is Rattar off your patch?
No. Places such as Rattar are covered as much as the big towns. We cover the whole of Scotland. Where we can, we group nearby jobs to make the most of each trip.
Does the sea air around Rattar change the choice of sealant?
It can. Wind-driven rain and, closer to the shore, salt air are harder on external joints. We check the specified product suits the exposure and pay close attention to preparation.
What will the job cost?
We don’t publish prices, because every site is different. Send photos or drawings and we’ll price it at a fixed figure.
How do we ask for a quote?
There are four steps: send details, receive a fixed quote, we carry out the work, and it’s guaranteed. The first step only needs photographs and a postcode.
Can we approve the colour on site?
Yes. We can fit a sample into the programme before the main run.
Can you guarantee a perfect colour match?
No. An exact bespoke match isn’t something we can promise. Sealants come in a wide range of standard colours, and we will confirm the colours available for the specified product.
How long do sealant joints last?
It depends on movement, UV and weather, cleaning, traffic and the product. Sealant joints are maintenance items, so inspect them regularly.
Shops, offices and hotels in and around Rattar
Rattar is within about 1 mile of the coast. Exposed frontages near the sea are hard on sealant, so the product has to suit the weather as well as the look. Sea-facing elevations are normally where failed joints show first. Rattar is on Scotland’s drier eastern side. Cold snaps still affect when external joints can be sealed. Outside work is booked with that in mind
Refits at hotels like Castle Arms Hotel (1.4 miles east of Rattar) bring joints at vanity tops, bars and reception desks that guests see every day. For any commercial premises in Rattar, a lasting joint depends on full removal of the old sealant and clean, dry faces.
Rattar is about 10 miles east of Thurso, in Highland. If you are looking for coloured sealant in Rattar, we can help. 256 places across Highland fall within our area, Rattar among them.
We cover the KW14 postcode districts. Nearby places we also cover include Scarfskerry (1 mile north-west), Dunnet (3 miles south-west), Brough (3 miles west), Canisbay (5 miles east) and Castletown (5 miles south-west) for colour-matched joints. For island and remote sites, travel and materials need planning ahead, so include the location in your enquiry.

Why act early in Rattar
Standard white or grey sealant is cheaper to stock, but it doesn’t always suit the finish. On visible work, the small extra effort of a colour from the product’s range pays off. Exposed buildings in Scotland take a lot of weather, and for a smaller place like Rattar, a repair visit takes planning, so it’s better to act early.
Pricing colour-matched joints depends on how many there are, their condition and the access. Ask us for a fixed quote.

Paintable sealants
Some joints are better sealed with a paintable product and decorated. That only works where the joint and specification allow it.
Office fit-outs
Partition frames and joinery are often in a set colour. We match from the product’s range and agree them before work starts.

How the quote is worked out
Each job is priced on its own details. The things that drive the figure:
- The site’s rules and procedures
- Removal of failed or old sealant
- Travel to remote or island sites
- Phasing around occupants
What a job costs comes down to the quantity of joints, what has to come out first and the access. Call for a quote when you are ready.
Details that help us quote
There’s no need for a formal survey. A few details are enough to get going:
- Whether the building will be occupied during the work
- Approximate linear metres or a joint schedule
- Access details, including height
- Clear photographs of the problem areas
Every job follows the same four steps: send details, get a quote, we seal, guaranteed. To take the first step, phone 01277 525 020 or send photos by email.
Doing it in-house
Certain joints really need a specialist: for instance fire-rated seals that must match a tested detail, trafficked floor joints and external movement joints. Getting these wrong usually costs more in the end than doing them right.
For a quick touch-up, site staff may be fine, but anything bigger is another matter: a specialist works through quantities efficiently, leaves a consistent finish and backs it with a 12-month guarantee.
