Bucksburn: questions and answers

Must a hotel around Bucksburn close while you work?

Almost never. The work is phased so most rooms stay available. We agree the order of rooms and the timings with you before we start.

Do you offer colour-matched sealant for buildings in Bucksburn?

Yes, sealants come in a wide range of standard colours, and matching to RAL references, cladding, stone or frames is a common request. Send colour references or photographs and we will confirm what’s available for the product.

Do you work in Bucksburn?

Yes. We cover Bucksburn and the rest of Aberdeen. For a quote, speak to us on 01277 525 020 or send photos by email.

Do you have public liability insurance?

Yes. Our insurance certificate can be sent alongside the quote.

When can you be on site?

Mention the site’s hours and access windows in your enquiry, and we’ll schedule the work to suit. You can reach the office between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Will you just go over the old sealant?

No. Failed sealant is removed and the faces cleaned back to sound, dry material first, since fresh sealant will not bond reliably to aged material.

When can the area be used after sealing?

The product and site conditions decide that. Some products skin over quickly but need longer to cure fully, so we’ll confirm the curing time on the day.

Coloured sealant in Bucksburn

We take on colour-matched work across new fit-outs, refurbishments and resealing of existing joints. When replacing old joints, the new colour normally has to match what’s already there, particularly where the building’s look matters. Site teams most often ask us about standard-colour sealant spoiling a high-end finish and discoloured joints on a visible elevation, across office fit-out finishes, shop-fit joinery and counters and hotel bathrooms and public areas. Sealant applicators who only do sealant are a different proposition from a general trade with a gun in the van: in Bucksburn, that means joint design, primers and backing rod as standard.

City-centre premises in Scotland often come with tight access, shared closes and loading restrictions. Give us your access times and any building rules and we will fit the work around them.

Guaranteed is the last step of every job. You get a 12-month guarantee on our workmanship, and we explain exactly what that covers when we quote.

What sealant work can’t fix

Honesty saves time and money. Fresh joints won’t solve:

  • Cleaning or repairing the surrounding finishes
  • Custom-mixed sealant colours
  • Overpainting a joint that needs a non-paintable product

Not sure which it is? You can call the office on 01277 525 020 or email drawings and photos and we’ll tell you honestly.

What we seal

  • Hotel bathrooms and public areas
  • Natural stone and brick
  • Shop-fit joinery and counters
  • Office fit-out finishes
  • Powder-coated and anodised frames
  • Cladding panels

Our process

Before any cutting starts, the area is protected: tape along each joint edge and covers over finishes, stock and equipment close by. On site, the work typically takes a day for a modest shop fit, and longer for a full building or several floors, and we clear our waste as we work. In a Scottish city, kerbside space and loading need planning, especially near the centre. Tenement closes, shared stairs and factor approvals may also be involved.

  1. We confirm the joint type and the product it needs.
  2. Your RAL reference, sample or photo is checked against that product’s colours.
  3. You approve the colour, on site if it’s critical.
  4. We cut out the existing bead, clean and set the depth.
  5. We mask, seal and tool to a clean line.
  6. Masking comes off and the work is checked with you.

What we need from you

  • Send any specification or drawings in advance
  • Clear stock, furniture or equipment away from the joints
  • Tell us your opening times and when work is allowed

What sets the cost

Each job is priced on its own details. The main factors are:

  • Specialist products, such as fire-rated or hygienic sealants
  • Site requirements such as inductions and permits
  • Working within restricted access windows
  • The size and state of each joint

The product called for affects the cost, as does the preparation each joint needs. Access, phasing and site requirements come into it too.

Sending details for a quote

To price the job accurately, we need to understand the site. Send us:

  • Whether the building will be occupied during the work
  • Photos of the joints, close up and from further back
  • The asbestos register, for older buildings
  • The postcode of the building

Send us photographs, drawings or a joint schedule are often enough for a fixed quote. Where a site visit makes more sense, we’ll arrange one.

Different surfaces, different methods

Hotel interiors

Phased work can be planned so areas stay in use. Tell us your site hours and access windows and we will plan around them with areas kept in use.

Paintable sealants

Where no colour in the range is close, a paintable hybrid or PU sealant can sometimes be painted to match. That only works where the joint and specification allow it because paint may crack where the joint moves.

Sealant on show in Bucksburn’s commercial buildings

Bucksburn has three care or nursing homes no more than 2 miles away. Kitchens and communal rooms in care settings are cleaned constantly, so their joints need to be smooth and sound. Being in the east of Scotland, Bucksburn gets less rain than the west coast. Cold, frosty mornings and condensation on steel and glass can still delay outside work. Outside work is booked with that in mind

A unit on an estate like Bankhead Industrial Estate (to the north-west of Bucksburn) typically has an office front, a trade counter and staff facilities with joints of their own. For a hotel such as Britannia Hotel (under half a mile north-east of Bucksburn), the colour of a joint at the bar or the bath matters to the look of the room.

Bucksburn is about 3 miles north-west of Aberdeen, in Aberdeen. Across the AB21 postcode area, it works the same way: details in, fixed quote out, then sealing and a 12-month guarantee. We work across 40 places in Aberdeen, large and small.

We cover the AB21, AB16 and AB22 postcode districts. For a building on Howes Road, Gilbert Road and Malcolm Road or nearby, send details and we’ll quote for colour-matched joints. Sites close to Bucksburn are covered too, including Northfield (1 mile south-east), Stoneywood (1 mile north-west), Cummings Park (1 mile south-east), Mastrick (2 miles south) and Danestone (2 miles east). A short drive away, we cover Aberdeen (3 miles south-east), Rosemount (3 miles south-east), Berryden (3 miles south-east), Ferryhill (4 miles south-east), New Aberdeen (4 miles south-east) and Queen's Cross (3 miles south-east).

Landmarks near Bucksburn

Locally, jobs take us to sites close to Northfield Academy, Stewart Park and Bucksburn Manor pub. Bucksburn’s nearest station is Dyce station, about 2.1 miles north. Other landmarks nearby include King's Museum (2.8 miles east) and Bon Accord Centre (3.4 miles south-east). Not far away are Rubislaw Quarry and Brimmond Hill.

Do you need coloured sealant in Bucksburn?

A change of finish can leave existing sealant mismatched. New cladding colours, repainted frames or a refreshed shop fit all prompt colour changes, and the joints need to match.

Site and facilities staff are often the first to spot these:

  • Poorly tooled joints on visible finishes
  • Discoloured joints on a visible elevation
  • A run of joints in mismatched shades
  • Shop fits that need consistent sealant colours across sites

Shops and cafés around stations like Dyce station, 2.1 miles to the north of Bucksburn, trade from early, so work is timed around them.

Before you book anyone

  • Whether old or failed sealant will be cut out, not overlaid
  • How long is the guarantee, and what does it include?
  • Are they CHAS accredited or on Constructionline?
  • What site paperwork they can supply

When to bring in a specialist

Site maintenance staff can often handle a short internal joint. Where it goes wrong is preparation: sealing over old material, sealing onto damp or dusty surfaces, or a product that can’t take the movement.

Paperwork matters too. Many sites expect CSCS cards, RAMS and proof of insurance, and our CSCS-carded applicators are used to working under those rules.
