Coloured sealant in North Ayrshire: how it works

Matching to anodised or powder-coated frames is a common request. The frame colour is checked against the sealant’s standard range, and you approve the choice. If the range has no close colour, a paintable sealant can sometimes be overpainted, where the specification allows. Site teams most often ask us about weathered sealant that no longer matches and sealant that no longer suits recoated frames, on office fit-out finishes, hotel bathrooms and public areas and cladding panels.

On arrival, we sign in, go through any site induction and check how permits are handled. Everything around the joints gets protected before anything is cut or cleaned, and the work typically takes a few hours or a phased programme, depending on joint lengths and how many colours are involved.

  1. Photos or drawings show us the finishes and joints.
  2. Colour options from the specified product’s range are shared with you.
  3. Tell us your site hours and access windows and we’ll plan around them.
  4. Joints are prepared, primed where specified and backed.
  5. We seal in the approved colour and tool it smooth.

Coloured sealant across North Ayrshire: the area picture

In North Ayrshire, much commercial sealant work follows refits in shops, offices and hotels in places such as Irvine, Kilwinning and Saltcoats. Where the joint is on show, a colour that suits the finish is part of the job.

Our area covers every Scottish council area, North Ayrshire included. Longer journeys are planned so each job is done in one go if at all possible. Coastal places in North Ayrshire often have hotels, guest houses and holiday accommodation with busy seasons, so work is often best planned for quieter months.

Irvine: Offices and shops close to stations such as Irvine station, 1.2 miles south-west of Irvine, tend to be busy all day, so sealant work is planned around opening hours. For a retailer at a site such as Riverway Retail Park (1.1 miles south-west of Irvine), the joints customers see are as much part of the fit-out as the shelving.

Why act early?

Resealing a full run gives a consistent colour. Small repairs at different times rarely match, and the patchwork effect grows.

Questions to ask before you book

  • How the joint faces will be prepared and primed
  • Is depth set with backing rod, or bond-breaker tape in shallow joints?
  • Whether old or failed sealant will be cut out, not overlaid
  • Health and safety accreditation such as CHAS

What we’re called out for in North Ayrshire

Joints repaired piecemeal often end up in several shades. Different products and batches used over the years leave a patchwork along a shopfront. Resealing a whole run in one agreed colour tidies it up.

Any of the following is a good reason to get the joints checked over:

  • Stained or mouldy coloured joints in washrooms
  • Joints that need to match a new RAL frame colour
  • Poorly tooled joints on visible finishes
  • Patch repairs in several different colours

How the job changes by surface

Cladding panels

Where panels vary in colour, the joint colour is agreed for the whole elevation. Sometimes a mid-tone suits better than matching one panel, and a sample settles it.

Brick and masonry

On brick, the sealant often matches the mortar rather than the brick face. The nearest colour in the range is agreed with you.

What sets the cost

To price the job, we consider:

  • Quantities, in metres or numbers
  • Backing rod, priming and other preparation
  • Which sealant the job calls for
  • Travel to remote or island sites

Access often affects the price as much as the sealing: joints within easy reach take less time than ones that need access equipment. Tell us how the joints are reached and call for a quote.

What we need to price the job

Good information means a firmer quote. When you get in touch, include:

  • Clear photos of the problem areas
  • Whether an asbestos survey exists
  • The type of building and who uses it
  • Access details, including height

Let us know the site, the scope and your timescale, and a fixed quote will follow. To get it moving, ring 01277 525 020 or email us.

What sealant work can’t fix

A few problems need another trade or a different fix, and we point that out rather than sealing over them:

  • A colour that never alters with age
  • Repairing damaged frames or cladding
  • Exact bespoke colour matches beyond the product’s range

Your questions answered

How do I request a quote?

There are four steps: send details, receive a fixed quote, we carry out the work, and it’s guaranteed. The first step only needs photos and a postcode.

Do your applicators hold CSCS cards?

Yes. If you need card details for site access, tell us and we will confirm them with the quote.

Can you match any colour exactly?

No, not in every case. We choose the nearest standard colour.

Is it fine to apply new sealant on top of old?

No. We cut the old material out and clean the joint back before sealing, since fresh sealant will not bond reliably to aged material.

When can you be on site?

Mention the site’s hours and access windows in your enquiry, and we’ll plan around them. Our office runs Monday to Friday, 8am until 5pm.

Do you use coloured sanitary silicone?

Yes, where the product range allows. Coloured sanitary sealant suits tiled and stone wet areas in commercial interiors.

Are you CHAS accredited and on Constructionline?

Yes. We’re CHAS accredited, we’re a Constructionline member and we use CSCS-carded applicators.
