Washroom sealing for Shover's Green sites

Send drawings, photos or a joint schedule, or tell us about the site, and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

Leave it or put it right?

A tired-looking washroom doesn’t always need a refurbishment. If the finishes are in good order, replacing the sealant may do much of what’s needed for now. For buildings around smaller places like Shover's Green, water damage can go unnoticed for longer, especially where a building isn’t used daily, which gives a failed joint time to do damage. Resealing early avoids that.

The specified product makes a difference, as does the preparation each joint needs, from cutting out to priming and backing rod. Access, phasing and site rules also count.

About our washroom sealing in Shover's Green

When mould has spotted a silicone joint, more cleaning won’t remove it. The growth is inside the sealant, which is why it comes back however often it is treated. Only replacement gets rid of it for good. We work on urinals and WCs, showers, trays and wet room floors and kitchens and tea points, and what we are called in for most is stained or open joints at kitchen sinks and worktops and black mould inside silicone joints that cleaning can’t shift. Looking for mastic applicators who cover Shover's Green? Mastic Doctor has worked for contractors, FMs and building owners since 2005, with CSCS-carded applicators.

Smaller places such as Shover's Green still have commercial washrooms and kitchens: in halls, pubs, schools, care homes and farm-based businesses. Mould gets into sealant in any washroom that doesn’t dry out, and once it’s in, the sealant is replaced.

We stand by our work: 12 months, guaranteed. That covers our preparation and application, and if something we did falls short, we return to it.

From enquiry to sign-off

Inspect, seal, sign off: every visit follows that pattern. First comes an inspection and agreement on scope, then we prepare and seal each joint with the specified product, and the job ends with a walk round and sign-off. If others near Shover's Green need work, visits can be combined, which keeps travel down. A fixed quote is given before anything starts.

  1. We inspect each washroom and record the joints to be resealed.
  2. You get a fixed quote with the phasing plan.
  3. The whole of the old bead is removed.
  4. Joints are degreased and dried.
  5. New anti-mould sealant goes in and is tooled neat.
  6. Each area is handed back when ready.

Owners, agents and contractors

Facilities managers want contractors who arrive with the paperwork sorted. Tell us what site paperwork you need, such as RAMS, an insurance certificate or CSCS details, and we will confirm with the quote.

Building owners and managing agents use us on everything from one building to a spread of sites. One quote can cover more than one site, so there’s one set of paperwork to deal with.

Different surfaces, different methods

Showers and trays

Shower joints in hotels, gyms and workplaces work hard. Every joint is stripped, degreased, dried and given a new bead.

Changing rooms and gyms

Shower areas, wet floor edges and vanity areas all have sealant joints and we look at them as one job.

Signs you need washroom sealing in Shover's Green

Much of the failed sealant we remove was applied over old silicone or residue. Silicone won’t adhere to a silicone bead so it peels away quickly.

Site and facilities staff are often the first to spot these:

  • Washrooms that look worn because of the sealant
  • Panel joints letting water behind
  • Sealant lifting along a tray edge
  • Gaps where vanity tops meet the wall

Staff changing rooms and patient toilets at places like Ticehurst House Hospital, 1.6 miles to the east of Shover's Green, need cleanable, sound silicone.

What to look for in a quote

  • Will RAMS and insurance details be available?
  • Whether their applicators hold CSCS cards
  • Their pre-qualification and accreditations
  • How long is the guarantee, and what does it include?

Our contractor checklist

When it isn’t the sealant

A few problems need another trade or a different fix, and we point that out rather than sealing over them:

  • Water escaping beneath the floor rather than through a joint
  • A dripping waste or valve behind a panel
  • Swollen or delaminated boards behind panels or vanity tops

If you’re not sure, just speak to us on 01277 525 020 or use the quote form and we will give you a straight answer.

What we seal

  • Kitchens and tea points
  • Urinals and WCs
  • Accessible toilets and changing rooms
  • Showers, trays and wet room floors
  • IPS panels and cubicles

Shover's Green: questions and answers

Is a smaller place like Shover's Green outside your area?

No. Small places get the same service as large ones. We cover Greater London and the counties of the South East. We plan jobs in smaller places so return trips are kept to a minimum.

Can you take on a job at a hospital such as Ticehurst House Hospital?

Yes, hospitals are one of the sectors we cover. Each area is agreed with the ward or department and the estates team in advance.

When can showers be used after new sealant?

Cure times vary by product and temperature. Each room gets its own reopening time from us before we leave it.

What’s the quickest route to a quote?

You can use the quote form on this site; alternatively, speak to us on 01277 525 020 or send photos by email. Photos, drawings or a joint schedule help us quote quickly.

Is it OK to put new silicone on top of the old?

We always remove it. New silicone won’t stick to the old, so sealing over it soon peels.

When is resealing likely to be due?

There’s no fixed lifespan: movement, exposure, cleaning, traffic and the product all play a part. Sealant joints are maintenance items, so inspect them regularly.

Is colour matching possible?

Often, yes. Sealants are made in a wide range of standard colours, and matching to RAL references or nearby finishes is commonly requested. We confirm what’s available for the specified product when we quote.
