Floor joint sealing in Ayr, done properly
Mastic Doctor has worked on joints in commercial buildings for over 20 years. Our CSCS-carded applicators follow your site induction and rules, and the business is CHAS accredited and a Constructionline member, with public liability insurance in place. Completed joints come with a 12-month guarantee on our workmanship. We work on saw-cut induced joints, loading bays and retail and showroom floors, and the usual reasons a site gets in touch are filler that has parted from one face and brittle joint filler breaking up. Whoever orders the work in Ayr, the brief is usually the same: a fixed quote, no surprises on site and a 12-month guarantee behind the result.
In Ayr, as across Scotland, outside joints in car parks, ramps and walls take rain, frost and road salt. External joints are sealed on dry days warm enough for the product, so we plan with some flexibility.
We sign every job off with a 12-month guarantee. The promise is simple: if our work fails within that year, we put it right.

Floors, slabs and movement joints in Ayr
The sea is no more than about 1 mile from Ayr. External movement joints in car parks, ramps and yards near the coast take salt and wind-driven rain on top of traffic, so it pays to keep them sealed. Two named trading, business or retail sites lie within about 3 miles of Ayr. Sites like these are full of saw-cut floor joints, yard slabs and car park joints.
University campuses such as University of the West of Scotland - Ayr Campus (under half a mile north-east of Ayr) have car parks, paved walkways and building elevations with movement joints. A healthcare site such as Biggart Hospital (2.7 miles north of Ayr) depends on car parks, ramps and service yards whose joints take traffic all day.

Ayr is one of 48 places we cover in South Ayrshire for floor joints. For work in that direction, see our Glasgow page.
We take on floor joints across the KA7, KA8 and KA6 postcode area, whatever the building. Buildings on Ellisland Square, Station Road and Burns Statue Square are within our area. Signs you need floor joint sealing in Ayr
Concrete slabs shrink as they dry out, and the saw cuts are there so it cracks in straight, controlled lines. As the panels contract, the joints widen so a filler put in early may separate along one side.
These are often picked up first by site or facilities staff:
- A rough ride across broken joints
- Soft sealant dragged out of trafficked joints
- Scruffy, dirty joint lines on a shop or showroom floor
- Joint fill separating from the concrete
Schools such as Belmont Academy have movement joints in their walls and floors that are easy to overlook.
What to look for in a quote
- Their pre-qualification and accreditations
- Is depth set with backing rod, or bond-breaker tape in shallow joints?
- Is the sealant right for the movement and the substrate?
- Whether their applicators hold CSCS cards
What the job involves on each surface
Loading bays and dock areas
Bays can be treated one or two at a time so goods in and out carry on. Tell us your site hours and access windows and we will plan around them.
Semi-rigid joint fillers
A semi-rigid filler is stiff enough to hold the arrises up when wheels cross. They allow only small movement, so they suit joints where most shrinkage has already happened.

When it isn’t the sealant
Honesty saves time and money. Fresh joints won’t solve:
- A failing floor coating, which is a flooring contractor’s job
- Slab panels that rock or move under load
- Broken concrete either side of the joint
Not sure which it is? You can ring 01277 525 020 or email us and we’ll tell you honestly.

Questions about Ayr
Does your area include sites such as Newton Trading Estate, near Ayr?
Yes. Estates, retail parks and business parks around Ayr, Newton Trading Estate among them, are all within reach. Photos and a short description are enough for a first look.
Does a coastal location like Ayr affect which sealant is used?
It can. Coastal exposure works external joints harder than inland weather. We check the specified product suits the exposure and pay close attention to preparation.
Do you work in Ayr?
Yes. Sites across Ayr are covered, with one number for every area we cover.
How do you choose the sealant?
A specification, where there is one, decides it. Without one, the joint decides: its movement, its surfaces and what it has to cope with.
Will your applicators have CSCS cards?
Yes. Our applicators hold CSCS cards.
When can forklifts run over new joint filler?
Cure times vary with the product and the conditions. We’ll give you a time for each zone when we agree the phasing.
How many days will you need on site?
The duration is planned around your programme and the access we’re given. We’ll give you an estimate of time on site when we quote.
Our process
The first thing on site is a walk round with your contact, agreeing which joints are in scope, where to start and what must stay open. After that, any old or failed material is removed, each joint is prepared and the new sealant goes in. In a Scottish town such as Ayr, outside work is planned around the weather and inside work around the occupants. Photos or drawings let us give a fixed quote and a realistic plan.
- First comes a walk of the floor to record joint sizes, broken edges and traffic routes.
- You get a fixed quote with the product and the phasing set out.
- Each joint is cleared of old fill and dirt and taken back to clean, sound edges.
- Dust is extracted from the joint and primer applied where the manufacturer specifies it.
- Filler or sealant goes in to the right depth and is finished flush with the slab.
- We tell you when each zone can carry trucks again and move on to the next.
Preparing the site
- Tell us your opening times and when work is allowed
- Send any specification or drawings in advance
- Tell us which areas need to stay in use
Request a quote
A handful of photos and a postcode is the fastest way to a quote. Upload them with the quote form, or speak to us on 01277 525 020 or send details through our quote form if you’d rather talk the job through.
Advice
Keeping the joints sound
A few simple habits keep the new joints working:
- Record damaged joints with a photo and a location
- Sweep debris out of open joints until they can be filled
- Expect fillers on young slabs to need a top-up
- Walk the main routes and inspect joint lines on a regular cycle
We will give you a time before trucks can run over the new joints, and it’s worth enforcing. Cones or barriers stop the first driver cutting the corner.
A broken joint on a main route is crossed by every truck on that route. Early treatment protects wheels, loads and drivers as much as the floor.
