About our floor joint sealing in Troon

It isn’t only heavy industry. Retail units, showrooms and trade counters have slab joints crossed by trolleys, footfall and cleaning machines, and an open, grimy joint line looks poor as well as catching wheels. A flush, well-finished joint tidies the whole floor. We work on retail and showroom floors, saw-cut induced joints and loading bays, and the failures we are asked to look at most are grimy joint lines spoiling a showroom floor and flexible sealant torn out by wheels. A single leaking joint is often how a building in Troon first comes to us: we check the joints around it and give you an honest view of what needs doing now and what can wait.

Wet weather and winter frost are hard on external movement joints in a town like Troon. Outside work waits for dry faces and the right temperature, so the programme has some give.

Building owners and contractors get the same cover: a 12-month guarantee on our workmanship. It doesn’t extend to damage, faults in the building or work by others, and we are upfront about that.

Floor joint sealing around Troon: how the place shapes the job

Troon is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the sea, external slabs, ramps and decks see salt air and driven rain as well as their usual loads, so a failed joint lets more in and the edges break up sooner. The west of Scotland, where Troon is, gets more rain than the east. Open joints in car parks and yards let in more water than in drier areas. Outside joints are sealed in dry spells, so dates have some give.

Large sites such as Biggart Hospital (4.4 miles south of Troon) have car parks, service roads and long elevations with movement joints in brick and panels. Schools such as Marr College have movement joints in their walls and floors that are easy to overlook.

Troon is about 5 miles south of Irvine, in South Ayrshire. Troon sits inside our coverage, and jobs here get the same fixed quote and 12-month guarantee as anywhere else. Troon is one of 48 places we cover in South Ayrshire. Sites around Glasgow have their own page, about 25 miles away.

We cover the KA10 and KA9 postcode districts for floor joints. Streets here include Main Street, Killin Place and Teviot Place. Questions about Troon

Does the sea air around Troon change the choice of sealant?

It can. Driven rain and salt are tougher on outside sealant than sheltered inland conditions. We choose the product for the exposure, prime where the manufacturer requires it and size the joint for its movement.

Will our site in Troon have to close for joint sealing?

In the majority of cases the site keeps working. Joints are done in phases, a bay, aisle or deck at a time. The phasing plan comes with the quote.

Who decides which product is used?

A specification, where there is one, decides it. Without one, the joint decides: how much it moves, what it bonds to and whether it’s wet, trafficked or fire-rated.

What about RAMS and site documents?

Let us know which documents the site needs, such as RAMS, an insurance certificate or CSCS details, and we’ll confirm them with the quote.

Will your applicators have CSCS cards?

Yes. Should the site need card details in advance, let us know and we’ll send them with the quote.

Can you work to our specification?

Yes. Include it with the drawings when you ask for a quote, and the quote will be based on it.

When can forklifts run over new joint filler?

The wait is set by the product’s cure time and cooler floors take longer. We plan the phasing so that waiting time fits your operation.

Building owners, agents and FMs in Troon

Blocks and communal areas make up much of the work for housing associations and agents. We phase the work so people keep access, with each stage agreed with your site contact.

Hospitality, education, healthcare, office and retail clients come to us directly as well. We plan around the way the building is used, so guests, pupils, patients or staff are disturbed as little as possible.

When it isn’t the sealant

Our job is the joint, not everything around it. On its own, sealant can’t deal with:

  • Unstable slabs moving under traffic
  • Level or flatness problems across the floor
  • Structural cracking in the slab

If you’re not sure, just give us a call on 01277 525 020 or send photos by email and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

Surfaces we seal

  • Loading bays
  • Saw-cut induced joints
  • Construction joints
  • Forklift and pallet-truck routes
  • Retail and showroom floors
  • Joints along racking aisles

Different surfaces, different methods

Isolation joints at walls and columns

Joints around columns and along walls let the slab move without cracking against the structure. A flexible product suits them better than a stiff filler.

Retail and showroom floors

Polished and coated concrete floors in shops and showrooms show every joint. We aim for a tidy, flush finish that suits the floor and confirm which colours the product comes in.

Leave it or put it right?

Holding off until the whole floor can close can take a long time. Zone by zone, the worst aisles can be dealt with now while the rest of the floor carries on. A leaking joint can damage finishes, stock and fittings inside. Early action limits what needs repairing.

Small jobs and large programmes are priced from the same things: what’s in scope, how we reach it, what’s specified and when it needs doing. Call for a quote and we’ll put a fixed figure on it.

Looking after the joints

Every sealant joint needs some looking after, and how long they last depends on how they’re treated. Our advice:

  • Start with the dock areas, where joints fail soonest
  • Make joint checks part of your floor inspections
  • Ask drivers not to drag forks or pallets
  • Allow for topping up joints as a new slab settles

On younger slabs, a fine line can open down one side of a filled joint as the concrete keeps shrinking. It is a known trait of new floors and a later top-up deals with it.

Every vehicle on a busy aisle hits a damaged joint. Early treatment protects wheels, loads and drivers as much as the floor.

On site: what to expect

Our CSCS-carded applicators arrive with the sealants, primers and backing rod the job calls for. Joint faces are cleaned back to sound, dry surfaces, the manufacturer’s primer is applied where it’s called for, and the sealant is tooled off neatly. For a unit on an estate in Troon, tell us about yard access and site rules. Town-centre premises may need parking planned.

  1. A floor survey records every joint, its edges and what crosses it.
  2. You receive a fixed quote showing products and phasing.
  3. Old fill and packed debris come out until both faces are sound.
  4. Dust is vacuumed out and primer applied where specified.
  5. The joint is filled to its specified depth and trimmed level.
  6. We hand each phase back when it can take traffic.
