Windsor: questions and answers

Must a hotel around Windsor close while you work?

Rarely, if ever. We take a few rooms out at a time. We agree the order of rooms and the timings with you before we start.

Can you work at a site such as Portland Business Park, by Windsor?

Yes, sites like Portland Business Park are within our area, along with the rest of Windsor. A few photographs and the unit address let us price the work.

Are your applicators CSCS-carded?

Yes. We use CSCS-carded applicators, which many sites require.

How many days will you need on site?

It depends on the scope, though a typical visit normally takes a few hours or a phased programme, depending on joint lengths and how many colours are involved. For bigger or phased jobs, we’ll set out a timescale with the quote.

How do I request a quote?

You can use the quote form on this site; alternatively, call the office on 01277 525 020 or email drawings and photos. Photos, drawings or a joint schedule help us quote quickly.

Can you guarantee a perfect colour match?

No, not in every case. We choose the nearest standard colour and a sample can be approved before the full run.

Which sealant will you use?

The specification comes first, if there is one. Without one, the joint decides: how much it moves, what it bonds to and whether it’s wet, trafficked or fire-rated.

About our coloured sealant in Windsor

Window, door and shopfront frames in RAL finishes often need a sealant to suit. We compare the RAL reference with the colours made for the specified sealant, and the nearest option is agreed with you. If the range has no close colour, a paintable sealant can sometimes be overpainted, where the specification allows. Site teams most often ask us about poorly tooled joints on visible finishes and a run of joints in mismatched shades, on cladding panels, hotel bathrooms and public areas and office fit-out finishes. Sealant contractors, mastic applicators, sealant specialists: whatever the job title on the order, in Windsor it comes down to the same thing: failed joints cut out, faces prepared and the right sealant laid to the right depth.

In towns of Windsor’s size, shops and offices often occupy older buildings with later extensions and new shopfronts. Joints where brick or render meets a newer frame or panel move differently, so the sealant has to suit both sides.

Every job ends the same way: guaranteed. You get a 12-month guarantee on our workmanship, and the quote explains what it covers.

Different surfaces, different methods

Shop-fit and joinery finishes

Shop fits bring laminate, timber, metal and stone together, each with its own colour. Each joint gets a colour that suits the materials it sits between from the product’s range.

Natural stone

Stone facades and stone interiors vary widely. We choose from the product’s range and agree the colour with you.

What happens if it’s left?

Agreeing the colour before work starts avoids paying twice. A sample takes little time compared with replacing joints in the wrong colour. In Windsor, as anywhere, the simplest time to fix a failed joint is before it leaks. After a leak, there’s drying, repairs and redecoration on top.

Quantities, awkward access and phased working all shape the price. Site requirements like inductions and permits play a part as well, along with the time of year for external work.

Sealant on show in Windsor’s commercial buildings

Windsor lies roughly 23 miles out from central London. The South East around the capital has large numbers of business parks, offices and retail centres, especially around the motorway corridors. Multi-site occupiers here often want one sealant contractor across all their buildings. At least three named trading, business or retail sites lie within about 3 miles of Windsor. Sites like these see regular refits, with shopfronts, offices and staff areas to seal; brand colours often come into it.

If you run an office at a site such as Portland Business Park (2.3 miles east of Windsor), the sealant at reception desks, tea points and frames ages with each fit-out. Occupiers with premises at both Portland Business Park and Slough Retail Park could have the sealant at each handled under one quote. Refits at hotels like Clarence Hotel (0.5 miles north-east of Windsor) bring joints at vanity tops, bars and reception desks that guests see every day.

Windsor is about 3 miles south of Slough, in Windsor and Maidenhead. Across the SL4 postcode area, it works the same way: send details, get a fixed quote, we seal, and the work is guaranteed. We work across 60 places in Windsor and Maidenhead, large and small. Reading is covered too, some 15 miles away.

Work on colour-matched joints is covered throughout SL4, for business premises of every kind. If your site is on Athlone Square, Leigh Square and Furness Square or close by, we can quote for colour-matched joints. Main routes into Windsor include the A308 and A332, which helps when planning parking and deliveries for the job. Just outside Windsor, we also work in Clewer (1 mile north), Dedworth (1 mile west), Boveney (1 mile north-west), Eton Wick (1 mile north) and Oakley Green (1 mile west). A short drive away, we cover Maidenhead (5 miles north-west), Boyn Hill (5 miles north-west), Cookham (7 miles north-west), Furze Platt (6 miles north-west), Broomhall (6 miles south) and South Ascot (6 miles south). Windsor is one of the busier places in Windsor and Maidenhead, and we take on colour-matched joints for its commercial and public buildings.

Diagnose, treat, sign off

Tell us your site hours and access windows and we will plan around them. On the day, the work area is kept contained and tidy, and your contact hears from us before we move to the next area. Parking and loading for town-centre jobs in Windsor are worth mentioning when you send details. Industrial and business units typically have yard or car park space.

  1. We confirm the joint type and the product it needs.
  2. Your RAL reference, sample or photo is checked against that product’s colours.
  3. The nearest colour is agreed, with a sample bead where needed.
  4. We cut out the existing bead, clean and set the depth.
  5. We mask, seal and tool to a clean line.
  6. Masking comes off and the work is checked with you.

Related advice

Should maintenance staff do it?

Site maintenance staff can often handle a short internal joint. The usual problems come from preparation: sealing over old material, sealing onto damp or dusty surfaces, or a product that can’t take the movement.

What you see is the finished bead, but most of the work is hidden. Backing rod, primer where specified and a joint designed to move with the building are easy to get wrong without experience.

Looking after the joints

Cleaning and maintenance staff play a part too. Pass these on to them:

  • Clean coloured joints with mild products
  • Protect fresh coloured sealant from dust and handling
  • Note which sealant colour was used where
  • Standardise colours across a portfolio

Don’t let anyone patch a coloured joint with whatever sealant is to hand. Wrong-colour patches are obvious, so it is better to reseal the section properly.

Use one product and colour reference across a building or brand. It keeps repairs and new sites consistent for whoever reseals next.

Quoting for work in Windsor

A fixed quote reflects the actual work. It takes account of:

  • Working within restricted access windows
  • Joint width, depth and condition
  • Whether old sealant has to be cut out first
  • The total length or number of joints

The product called for affects the cost, as does the preparation each joint needs, from cutting out to priming and backing rod. Access, phasing and site requirements come into it too.

Details that help us quote

Whether it’s one area or a whole building, these details speed things up:

  • The type of building and who uses it
  • Access details, including height
  • Rough lengths or quantities, or drawings if you have them
  • When you need the work done

Every job follows the same four steps: send details, get a quote, we seal, guaranteed. To take the first step, ring 01277 525 020 or email the details over.
