Honest limits
We seal joints; we don’t mend everything behind them. On its own, sealant can’t deal with:
- Materials with mixed tones that defy a single match
- Paintable products in joints they aren’t suited to
- A guaranteed perfect match to every finish
If in doubt, speak to us on 01277 525 020 or send details through our quote form and we’ll say what we think.

About our coloured sealant in Racks
Architects, designers and brand teams often specify the sealant colour as carefully as the finishes around it. Standard sealant ranges cover many colours, so we check what the specified product is made in at quote stage. An exact bespoke match can’t always be promised, so we talk you through the nearest colours. Site teams most often ask us about failed coloured sealant that has split or peeled and shop fits that need consistent sealant colours across sites, across shop-fit joinery and counters, hotel bathrooms and public areas and office fit-out finishes. Whoever orders the work in Racks, the brief is typically the same: a fixed quote, no surprises on site and a 12-month guarantee behind the result.
Travel to smaller places such as Racks is planned so the whole job is finished in one visit where possible: send photos and a complete list so the right products and colours come on the day. If neighbouring businesses have work too, the visits can be grouped.
Our workmanship is guaranteed for 12 months, wherever the site is. If our installation lets you down in that time, we return and fix it.

How the job changes by surface
Hotel interiors
In hotels, sealant shows in rooms, bathrooms and front-of-house. Sanitary silicone comes in colours too.
Natural stone
Stone facades and stone interiors vary widely. We choose from the product’s range and agree the colour with you after a sample if needed.
What Racks’s businesses ask us to seal
Being in the east of Scotland, Racks gets less rain than the west coast. Frost and condensation on winter mornings can still hold up external sealing. In winter, outside joints are timed for when surfaces are dry and within the product’s range
On a business park such as Brasswell Office Park (2 miles north-west of Racks), sealant work tends to follow fit-outs: receptions, tea points, washrooms and frame perimeters. Shops and cafés around stations like Dumfries station (3.6 miles west of Racks) trade from early, so work is timed around them.
Racks is about 4 miles east of Dumfries, in Dumfries and Galloway. Businesses, contractors and managing agents in Racks use us for work on colour-matched joints. Across Dumfries and Galloway, 139 places are covered, Racks among them. Glasgow is covered too, some 63 miles away.
Anyone looking for coloured sealant in DG1 gets the same process as the rest of our area: send details, get a quote, we seal, guaranteed. Sites close to Racks are covered too, including Greenlea (1 mile north), Collin (1 mile north), Loaningfoot (2 miles west), Torthorwald (2 miles north) and Kelton (3 miles south-west). Nearby towns on our patch include Dumfries (4 miles west), Annan (11 miles south-east), Lockerbie (8 miles north-east), Dalbeattie (15 miles south-west), Newbridge Drive (5 miles north-west) and Lochmaben (6 miles north-east).

General trades versus a specialist
For a quick touch-up, site staff may be fine, but anything bigger is another matter: a specialist brings efficiency, a consistent finish and a 12-month guarantee.
There’s also the paperwork. Main contractors and clients often ask for CSCS cards, RAMS and insurance details, and our CSCS-carded applicators are used to working under those rules.
How the quote is worked out
Each job is priced on its own details. The main factors are:
- Whether old sealant has to be cut out first
- Quantities, in metres or numbers
- Induction, permit and paperwork requirements
- Travel to remote or island sites
The product called for affects the cost, as does the preparation each joint needs. Access, phasing and site rules also count.
What we need to price the job
There’s no need for a formal survey. A few details are enough to get going:
- Whether the building will be occupied during the work
- The site address and postcode
- Anything awkward about access or site hours
- Approximate linear metres or a joint schedule
Every quote starts with the facts: the joints involved, quantities, access and the product called for. Send what you have, and we will arrange a site visit if anything is unclear.
From enquiry to sign-off
Before any cutting starts, the area is protected: tape along each joint edge and covers over finishes, stock and equipment close by. On site, the work normally takes about the same time as any other sealant work, plus a little longer if a sample bead is agreed first, and we clear our waste as we work. Jobs near Racks are often grouped with others in the same area. Tell us how flexible your dates are.
- We start with photos, drawings or a visit to see the finishes.
- We send the closest colours from the product’s range.

- Joints are prepared, primed where specified and backed.
- The agreed colour is installed and tooled neatly.

Advice
Aftercare for building managers
Problems stay small when the joints are checked regularly. In particular:
- Don’t let trades patch coloured joints with a random sealant
- Record the product and colour reference on the building file
- Reseal whole runs rather than patching single joints
- Avoid abrasive pads on coloured sealant
Expect some change in appearance over the years. Some fading is part of normal ageing outdoors.
Ask for a trial bead on high-profile areas. Seeing the cured colour in place avoids surprises.
Racks: questions and answers
Can the sealant on our Racks premises match the finishes?
Yes. Colour matching to frames, cladding, stone and shop-fit finishes is a regular part of the work. The quote lists the colours the product is made in.
Is Racks too far out for you?
No. Places such as Racks are covered as much as the big towns. Our area covers all of Scotland, cities, towns and islands alike. We plan jobs in smaller places so return trips are kept to a minimum.
What hours do you work?
We are in the office from 8am until 5pm, Monday to Friday. Let us know your site hours and access windows, and the work will be planned around them.
Will you quote for a small job?
Small jobs are welcome alongside larger packages. Photos and a description are enough to start.
Do you need to see the site first?
Many jobs can be quoted from photos, drawings or a joint schedule. Where they aren’t, we arrange a site visit before quoting.
Are you CHAS accredited?
Yes. Mastic Doctor is CHAS accredited and a Constructionline member.
Do you work to architects’ specifications?
Yes. The specification and the manufacturer’s installation guidance are what we work to, and we raise anything unclear before work begins.
