FAQs: Faygate

Can you work at a site such as Holmbush Potteries Industrial Estate, by Faygate?

Yes, sites like Holmbush Potteries Industrial Estate are within our area, along with the rest of Faygate. To start, just phone 01277 525 020 or send details through our quote form with the unit, the joints involved and your access times.

Is Faygate too small for you to travel to?

No. Places such as Faygate are covered as much as the big towns. We cover Greater London and the counties of the South East. Where we can, we group nearby jobs to make the most of each trip.

Do you hold CHAS accreditation?

Yes. We are CHAS accredited, we are a Constructionline member and we use CSCS-carded applicators.

Is it fine to apply new sealant on top of old?

No, never. Sealing over old material is one of the classic causes of early joint failure, so it all comes out first.

Can you quote from photographs?

It depends on the job. Straightforward work can often be priced from photos and measurements, and bigger or more complex jobs normally get a visit.

What do you charge?

Each job is quoted on its own details. To get one, speak to us on 01277 525 020 or use the quote form.

Can coloured sealant be used in washrooms and kitchens?

Yes, where the product range allows. Hotel bathrooms, washrooms and kitchens often use coloured sanitary silicone to suit tiles or stone in commercial interiors.

Coloured sealant in Faygate, done properly

Stone, brick and cladding each bring their own colour challenge: sandstone, granite, brick and stained timber rarely have one flat colour. The aim is a sealant colour that sits comfortably against the whole surface, agreed on site where needed. We work on cladding panels, powder-coated and anodised frames and natural stone and brick, and what we are called in for most is patch repairs in several different colours and shop fits that need consistent sealant colours across sites. Whoever orders the work in Faygate, the brief is typically the same: a fixed quote, no surprises on site and a 12-month guarantee behind the result.

Work in smaller places such as Faygate tends to come one building at a time: a pub kitchen, a hall, a small office. We plan the visit so everything on the list is done in one go, with the right products and colours on hand.

Every job ends the same way: guaranteed. You get a 12-month guarantee on our workmanship, and the quote explains what it covers.

Our process

When we get to site, we sign in, go through any site induction and check how permits are handled. Floors, finishes and fittings next to the joints are covered before any cutting starts, and the work usually takes about the same time as any other sealant work, plus a little longer if a sample bead is agreed first. If others near Faygate need work, visits can be combined, which keeps travel down. A fixed quote is given before anything starts.

  1. First we agree which sealant type the joint needs.
  2. Your RAL reference, sample or photo is checked against that product’s colours.
  3. The nearest colour is agreed, with a sample bead where needed.
  4. The existing bead comes out, then faces are cleaned and backed.
  5. Edges are masked and the coloured sealant applied and tooled.
  6. Masking comes off and the work is checked with you.

Getting the site ready

  • Send any specification or drawings in advance
  • Point out any areas we must not close
  • Tell staff and tenants when we’ll be in

Getting a fixed quote

Send us photographs, drawings or a joint schedule are often enough for a fixed quote. If the job needs a look first, we’ll arrange a site visit.

Advice

What happens if it’s left?

It’s far cheaper to approve a sample than to strip and redo a full run. A sample takes little time. For buildings around smaller places like Faygate, water damage can go unnoticed for longer, especially where a building isn’t used daily, so a failed joint can leak for a while before anyone sees it. Renewing joints in good time avoids the problem.

The specified product makes a difference, and so does the preparation, such as cutting out, priming or new backing rod. Access, phasing and site requirements come into it too.

Why clients in Faygate choose us

  • Fixed quotes based on photos, drawings or a visit
  • Specification-led, product-correct work
  • A range of standard colours, depending on the product
  • CSCS-carded applicators

Common problems we fix in Faygate

Joints repaired piecemeal often end up in several shades. Mixed repairs over time leave a run of mismatched joints along a shopfront. Resealing a whole run in one agreed colour tidies it up.

Any of the following is a good reason to get the joints checked over:

  • Sealant that no longer suits recoated frames
  • Old colour-matched joints lifting at the edges
  • Patch repairs in several different colours
  • Fit-outs with a sealant colour in the specification

A business with units at Holmbush Potteries Industrial Estate and New House Business Centre needn’t use two contractors for its sealant.

Before you book anyone

  • Will failed sealant be removed rather than covered?
  • How the joint faces will be prepared and primed
  • How joint depth will be controlled
  • How they’ll work around occupants

Our contractor checklist

What Faygate’s businesses ask us to seal

Faygate sits in one of the drier corners of the country, the South East. External joints still need dry faces and the right temperature, and damp or frosty mornings can hold work up. Faygate is about 29 miles from central London. The South East around the capital has large numbers of business parks, offices and retail centres, especially around the motorway corridors. Multi-site occupiers here often want one sealant contractor across all their buildings.

If you run a unit on an estate such as Holmbush Potteries Industrial Estate, which lies east of Faygate, the trade counter, offices and staff facilities have joints to look after as well as the warehouse. Shops and cafés around stations like Faygate station (to the south-west of Faygate) trade from early, so work is timed around them.

Faygate is about 3 miles north-east of Horsham, in West Sussex. Our applicators travel to Faygate for work on colour-matched joints. Our West Sussex coverage takes in 373 places, from busy centres to rural villages. There’s a separate page for Brighton, roughly 19 miles from Faygate.

Anyone looking for coloured sealant in RH12 gets the same process as the rest of our area: details, then a fixed price, then sealing and a 12-month guarantee. We cover commercial and managed buildings on Station Approach, Faygate Lane and Durrants Drive and the roads nearby. We also cover Kilnwood Vale (1 mile east), Colgate (1 mile south-east), Roffey (2 miles south-west), Broadfield (2 miles east) and Mannings Heath (4 miles south). Further afield, our area takes in Crawley (3 miles east), Horsham (3 miles south-west), Haywards Heath (10 miles south-east), Burgess Hill (11 miles south-east), East Grinstead (11 miles east) and Storrington (15 miles south-west).

Around Faygate

Locally, jobs take us to sites close to Target Hill Park and The Holmbush Inn and the streets around them. Faygate has its own railway station: Faygate station. A little further out are Crawley Hospital (3.2 miles north-east) and County Mall (3.6 miles east). Green spaces nearby include Warnham LNR and Tilgate Lake.

What we can’t put right

Part of a good diagnosis is knowing where sealant stops. We’ll tell you if the real problem is any of the following:

  • Cleaning or repairing the surrounding finishes
  • Materials with mixed tones that defy a single match
  • Paintable products in joints they aren’t suited to

Not sure which it is? You can call the office on 01277 525 020 or email us and we’ll tell you honestly.

What we seal

  • Shop-fit joinery and counters
  • Natural stone and brick
  • Powder-coated and anodised frames
  • Cladding panels
  • Hotel bathrooms and public areas
  • Office fit-out finishes

General trades versus a specialist

What you see is the finished bead, but most of the work is hidden. Correct depth, the right primer and a sealant matched to the movement are easy to get wrong without experience.

Certain joints really need a specialist: for example fire-rated seals that must match a tested detail, trafficked floor joints and external movement joints. Getting these wrong typically costs more in the end than doing them right.

Different surfaces, different methods

Powder-coated and anodised frames

Anodised and metallic frames rarely have an identical sealant colour. We will suggest the nearest standard colours.

Cladding panels

Where panels vary in colour, the joint colour is agreed for the whole elevation. Sometimes a mid-tone suits better than matching one panel and we can trial it first.
