Where floor joints take the most wear near Tidworth

Tidworth is about 70 miles from central London. The South East has large numbers of industrial estates and warehouses along the motorway corridors. The 3 miles around Tidworth take in two named trading estates, business parks or retail parks. Their warehouses, yards and car parks are exactly where joints take the most punishment.

In a school such as The Wellington Academy, movement joints in brick, block and hall floors tend to be forgotten until they leak. Phasing is what makes joint work possible on busy sites such as Ludgershall Business Park (1.8 miles east of Tidworth): one bay, aisle or car park row at a time.

Tidworth is about 8 miles west of Andover, in Hampshire. Anywhere in SP9, the process is the same: send details, get a fixed quote, we seal, and the work is guaranteed. Our Hampshire coverage takes in 723 places, large and small. For work in that direction, see our Southampton page.

Postcode districts covered here: SP9. We cover commercial and managed buildings on Station Road, Pennings Road and Ebble Close. Tidworth sits on or close to the A338 and A3026, useful when we plan access and materials. Sites close to Tidworth are covered too, including Perham Down (1 mile east), Ludgershall (2 miles north-east), Shipton Bellinger (2 miles south), Great Shoddesden (2 miles east) and Kimpton (3 miles east). Bigger towns within reach include Andover (8 miles east), Whitchurch (14 miles east), East Anton (9 miles east), Picket Piece (10 miles east), Picket Twenty (9 miles east) and Finkley Down (10 miles east).

Floor joint sealing in Tidworth

We diagnose the floor first rather than guessing at a product: joint widths, whether the joints are still opening, what runs over them and how the edges have held up. That tells us whether semi-rigid filler or flexible sealant suits each run, area by area where it needs to be. If you have joint fill separating from the concrete and open saw cuts full of debris, we can put it right. Looking for mastic applicators who cover Tidworth? We have been sealing commercial buildings since 2005, CHAS accredited and a Constructionline member.

Work in a smaller place like Tidworth is usually one building at a time. That way the right materials come on the day and the job is done in one visit where possible.

Work we carry out comes with a 12-month guarantee. If an installation problem shows up, ring 01277 525 020 or use the quote form and we’ll arrange a return visit.

Tidworth: questions and answers

Is Tidworth off your patch?

Not at all. Tidworth is within our area. London and every South East county are within our area. Send photographs and a list of what needs doing, and we will plan the job to need as few trips as possible.

Does your area include sites such as Castledown Business Park, near Tidworth?

Yes. We cover Tidworth and the area around it, including industrial estates, business parks and retail parks such as Castledown Business Park. Photos and a short description are enough for a first look.

Does weather matter for sealant work?

For external joints, yes. Sealant needs a dry joint and a temperature within the product’s range, so damp, frosty or very cold days can stop external work. Inside work is seldom held up.

Are you CHAS accredited and on Constructionline?

Yes. CHAS accredited, Constructionline member, and our applicators hold CSCS cards.

Is the floor joint work guaranteed?

There is a 12-month guarantee on our workmanship, and we hold public liability insurance.

Do you have public liability insurance?

Yes. Our insurance certificate can be sent alongside the quote.

How do you choose the sealant?

Where there’s a specification, we use the product it names. Otherwise, we recommend a product to suit the joint’s movement, the substrate and the conditions, following the manufacturer’s guidance.

Building owners, agents and FMs in Tidworth

For main contractors, we work as the sealant subcontractor. We work to your programme, your specification and your site rules, and our applicators hold CSCS cards.

Agents, factors and owners’ representatives all follow the same route: send the details, accept a fixed quote, and we carry out and guarantee the work. Keys, access and contacts can be agreed in advance.

When it isn’t the sealant

Honesty saves time and money. Fresh joints won’t solve:

  • Wide or random cracking that suggests a structural issue
  • Broken concrete either side of the joint
  • A floor that is out of level for the racking or trucks

Not sure which it is? You can ring 01277 525 020 or email us and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Surfaces we seal

  • Construction joints
  • Joints along racking aisles
  • Loading bays
  • Forklift and pallet-truck routes
  • Retail and showroom floors
  • Saw-cut induced joints

Should maintenance staff do it?

Some joints are best left to specialists: for example fire-rated seals that must match a tested detail, trafficked floor joints and external movement joints. A poor seal in places like these tends to cost more to put right later.

Paperwork matters too. Many sites expect CSCS cards, RAMS and proof of insurance, and we’ll confirm the paperwork you need with the quote.

Why it’s worth doing now in Tidworth

Not every joint needs stripping out completely. If old material is sound on one face and only a fine gap has opened, it may not all have to come out, and we will say which joints need what. A failed joint lets water into a building whatever its size. Early resealing avoids the damage that follows a leak.

The price depends on how many linear metres there are, how much old material needs removing and how the joints are reached. Call for a fixed quote once you have the details.

What you get with us

When to call us in Tidworth

A slab keeps shrinking for a long time after it is cast, and saw-cut joints give that shrinkage a planned place to crack. As the panels contract, the joints widen so a filler put in early may separate along one side.

Look out for the following:

  • Scruffy, dirty joint lines on a shop or showroom floor
  • A rough ride across broken joints
  • Sealant pulled out along a truck route
  • Joint fill separating from the concrete

For buildings at a park such as Castledown Business Park, 1.7 miles to the north-east of Tidworth, brick and panel movement joints are easy to forget until one leaks.

Before you book anyone

  • Who will actually carry out the work
  • Is depth set with backing rod, or bond-breaker tape in shallow joints?
  • How they’ll work around occupants
  • What level of public liability insurance do they hold?

Questions to ask before you appoint anyone

Diagnose, treat, sign off

Before any cutting starts, the area is protected: masking tape along the joint edges and sheeting over anything nearby. On site, the work usually takes between a day and a number of days, set by the joint lengths, the edge condition and the phasing you need, and we clear our waste as we work. Several jobs near Tidworth can be grouped on one trip. Tell us your site hours and we will plan around them.

  1. Each area is assessed for joint width, arris damage and the wheels that cross it.
  2. You get a fixed quote with the product and the phasing set out.
  3. Old filler, debris and contamination are cut or routed out back to clean concrete.
  4. Dust is sucked out of the joint and a primer used if the product data sheet asks for one.
  5. The chosen product is placed to its specified depth and trimmed level with the floor.
  6. The area is handed back once it has cured enough to take traffic.

Getting the site ready

  • Send asbestos survey details if the building is pre-2000
  • Move anything stored against the joints
  • Arrange parking or a loading space
