Floor joint sealing for Scalasaig sites

Tell us what needs sealing and where, with photos or drawings if you have them, and we’ll price it.

For managing agents and facilities managers

CHAS accredited and a Constructionline member, we make supplier vetting simple. Our insurance certificate can be sent along with the quote.

Facilities managers want contractors who arrive with the paperwork sorted. Tell us what site paperwork you need, such as RAMS, an insurance certificate or CSCS details, and we will confirm with the quote.

About our floor joint sealing in Scalasaig

It isn’t only heavy industry. Shops, showrooms and trade counters have joints that take trolleys, foot traffic and scrubber-driers, and an open, grimy joint line looks poor as well as catching wheels. A neat, flush fill makes the floor easier to clean and look after. We work on loading bays, forklift and pallet-truck routes and saw-cut induced joints, and the usual reasons a site gets in touch are grimy joint lines spoiling a showroom floor and cracked and crumbling joint fill. Whether you call it commercial sealant work, mastic application or joint sealing, the work in Scalasaig is the same: failed joints cut out, faces prepared and the right sealant laid to the right depth.

Around smaller Scottish places like Scalasaig, slabs needing attention are often in agricultural buildings, workshops, schools and hotels. Concrete slabs and yards there take vehicles and weather.

Our workmanship is guaranteed for 12 months, in Scalasaig as everywhere else we work. If a joint we sealed fails because of how it was installed, we come back and put it right.

What we can’t put right

We check first that sealant really is the fix. It isn’t the answer for:

  • Uneven floors that need grinding or levelling
  • Slab panels that rock or move under load
  • Spalled arrises, which need an edge repair first

If in doubt, call 01277 525 020 or email drawings and photos and we’ll say what we think before you book.

What we seal

  • Construction joints
  • Loading bays
  • Forklift and pallet-truck routes
  • Saw-cut induced joints
  • Retail and showroom floors
  • Joints along racking aisles

Questions we’re asked in Scalasaig

Does the sea air around Scalasaig change the choice of sealant?

It can. Wind-driven rain and, closer to the shore, salt air are harder on external joints. We choose the product for the exposure, prime where the manufacturer requires it and size the joint for its movement.

Is a smaller place like Scalasaig outside your area?

No. Small places get the same service as large ones. Every Scottish council area is within our area. Where we can, we group nearby jobs to make the most of each trip.

Who decides which product is used?

A specification, where there is one, decides it. If there isn’t one, it comes down to the joint: its movement, its surfaces and what it has to cope with.

Is it fine to apply new sealant on top of old?

No, never. Sealing over old material is one of the classic causes of early joint failure, so everything comes out first.

Do you guarantee industrial floor joints?

A 12-month guarantee covers the work we do. It applies to our workmanship rather than structural movement or accidental damage.

How long before trucks can use the joints?

The wait is set by the product’s cure time and cooler floors take longer. Phasing is planned with that in mind.

Can the sealant be colour-matched?

Often, yes. Sealants are made in a wide range of standard colours, and matching to RAL references or nearby finishes is commonly requested. We will confirm the colours available for the specified product.

Should maintenance staff do it?

A short, simple internal joint is often within reach of a maintenance team. The usual problems come from preparation: sealing over old material, sealing onto damp or dusty surfaces, or a product that can’t take the movement.

There’s also the paperwork. Main contractors and clients often ask for CSCS cards, RAMS and insurance details, and our CSCS-carded applicators are used to working under those rules.

What the job involves on each surface

Flexible floor sealants

Movement joints, joints at walls and joints in lightly trafficked areas often take a flexible sealant. Backing rod limits how deep the bead goes and keeps it off the joint bottom.

Saw-cut induced joints

Induced joints are sawn into a new slab to control where it cracks. They are narrow but open up as the panels shrink, and on truck routes they need a filler that supports the edges.

Where floor joints take the most wear near Scalasaig

Scalasaig sits close to the coast, within about 1 mile. Near the sea, external slabs, ramps and decks see salt air and driven rain as well as their usual loads, so a failed joint lets more in and the edges break up sooner. Scalasaig is in the west of Scotland, the wetter side of the country. Rainwater through open yard and deck joints is a bigger issue here than in the drier east. We wait for dry, workable days to seal them.

Once a joint near Scalasaig opens up, grit and water get in and the edges start to break. For floors and slabs around Scalasaig, the product is chosen for the traffic and the movement at each joint.

Scalasaig is in Argyll and Bute. We send applicators to Scalasaig for floor joints, handled exactly as we handle every other area. We work across 124 places in Argyll and Bute. Sites around Glasgow have their own page, about 76 miles away.

How the quote is worked out

These are the things that shape the price:

  • Backing rod, priming and other preparation
  • The site’s rules and procedures
  • Quantities, in metres or numbers
  • Which sealant the job calls for

The work involved drives the cost: stripping out, preparation, sealing, access and phasing. Call for a quote and we’ll explain how it’s made up.

What we need to price the job

A good diagnosis starts with the right details. Tell us:

  • Asbestos survey details if the building is older
  • Your programme or deadline
  • Where the site is, with the postcode
  • What the building is and how it’s used

Need a figure for a tender or a budget? Send the scope and any drawings, and we will return a fixed quote that you can work with. If you have questions first, give us a call on 01277 525 020 or send photos by email.

On site: what to expect

Diagnose, treat, sign off: every visit follows that pattern. We inspect the joints and confirm what’s in scope, then we prepare and seal each joint with the specified product, and we finish with a walk round so the work can be signed off. Travel to smaller Scottish places like Scalasaig is planned so the job is finished in one visit where possible, so photos, sizes and a full list matter. Outside work also needs a suitable weather window.

  1. First, the zones and order of work are agreed with you.
  2. We point out joints whose edges need repairing first.
  3. Failed material and debris are removed and the joint cleaned.
  4. The chosen filler or sealant goes in flush with the slab.
  5. Each area is handed back when ready for traffic.

Getting the site ready

  • Make sure the joints can be reached
  • Send asbestos survey details if the building is pre-2000
  • Agree which areas must stay open
