Floor joint sealing in Mochrum, done properly
Most industrial slabs are divided into panels with saw cuts and day joints, and every one of those joints is an exposed edge under hard wheels. We fill or seal them with a product matched to the traffic and the movement, so the arrises are supported and grit stays out. The enquiries we see most involve trucks and loads jolting over damaged joints and flexible sealant torn out by wheels, on construction joints, saw-cut induced joints and forklift and pallet-truck routes. Whether you call it commercial sealant work, mastic application or joint sealing, the work in Mochrum is the same: the right product in a properly prepared joint.
Travel to smaller places like Mochrum is planned so the work is done in one trip where possible. Send photos, joint widths and details of the traffic first.
What our 12-month guarantee covers is the way we did the job: preparation, application and finish. It doesn’t extend to damage, other trades’ later work or movement the joint was never designed to take.

What the job involves on each surface
Forklift and pallet-truck routes
Trucks running over open joints wear wheels and shake loads. A filled joint lets wheels roll across and protects the floor.
Flexible floor sealants
Polyurethane sealants suit floor joints with larger movement. They don’t hold the arrises up as firmly as a semi-rigid fill, so they suit lighter traffic or movement joints.

General trades versus a specialist
Putting right a botched joint often costs more than sealing it well at the start, because the whole bead must be removed and the faces cleaned back again. That’s why many clients bring in a specialist from the beginning.
Using site staff can make sense for a small touch-up, but larger jobs are different: a specialist brings efficiency, a consistent finish and a 12-month guarantee.
When it isn’t the sealant
Being straight saves everyone time. New sealant won’t cure:
- A floor that rocks at the joints, which needs a structural fix
- Broken concrete either side of the joint
- Worn screed or surface finishes
If you’re not sure, just call the office on 01277 525 020 or use the quote form and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

From enquiry to sign-off
The first thing on site is a walk round with your contact, agreeing which joints are in scope, where to start and what must stay open. Then we strip out anything that has failed, prepare every joint and seal it. For a building near Mochrum, directions, keys and a contact on the day are worth sorting early. That goes into the plan alongside the quote.
- Each area is assessed for joint width, arris damage and the wheels that cross it.
- The quote fixes the price, names the filler or sealant and shows how the floor will be zoned.
- Each joint is cleared of old fill and dirt and taken back to clean, sound edges.
- We vacuum each run and prime it if the chosen product requires a primer.
- The chosen product is placed to its specified depth and trimmed level with the floor.
- The area is handed back once it has cured enough to take traffic.
What we need from you
- Agree which areas must stay open
- Let building users know which areas are affected
- Send your site hours and access windows

Advice
Looking after the joints
Every sealant joint needs some looking after, and their life depends on movement, exposure, cleaning and use. Our advice:
- Keep photographs of joints that look like they’re failing
- Tell us about strong cleaning chemicals before we quote
- Walk the main routes and inspect joint lines on a regular cycle
- Allow for topping up joints as a new slab settles
Walk the main truck routes every few months and look along the joint lines. Watch for filler pulling away from an edge, fresh chipping or grit collecting, and photograph anything that changes.
Regular inspection catches failing fills before the edges go. A phased plan, worst routes first, spreads the work out so nothing is left to fail.
Questions we are asked in Mochrum
Must our site in Mochrum stop work while the joints are done?
Usually not: we work in sections and hand each one back once it has cured. Tell us which hours and entrances we can use and we’ll plan from there.
Is Mochrum off your patch?
No. Small places get the same service as large ones. We cover the whole of Scotland. Send photographs and a list of what needs doing, and we’ll plan the job to need as few trips as possible.
How long does a job like this take?
We plan the time on site around your programme and access. You’ll have an expected duration with the quote.
How do you choose the sealant?
Where there’s a specification, we use the product it names. If not, we choose for the movement, the surfaces and the conditions, in line with the manufacturer’s guidance.
What do you need from us to quote?
Approximate metres of joint, photographs of typical and worst areas, and a floor plan let us give a quick quote. For larger floors, a site visit is often best so ring 01277 525 020 or email a schedule or drawings to set one up.
Do you have public liability insurance?
Yes. We are fully insured, including public liability cover.
What happens if the joint edges are damaged?
A filler needs sound edges to grip. If the arrises have spalled, we’ll say they need repair before filling and set out how that affects the job.
Joints that move: notes for Mochrum
The sea is no more than about 2 miles from Mochrum. Coastal yards and decks give their joints salt and wet weather to deal with, not just wheels, so a failed joint lets more in and the edges break up sooner. The west of Scotland, where Mochrum is, gets more rain than the east. Rainwater through open yard and deck joints is a bigger issue here than in the drier east. We wait for dry, workable days to seal them.
Around Mochrum, each joint gets a filler or sealant matched to what crosses it and how much it moves. Once a joint near Mochrum opens up, grit and water get in and the edges start to break; we will tell you if the edges need repairing first.

Why act early in Mochrum
Dirt and spillage gather in open joints where scrubber-driers can’t get it out. Where the floor is on show or needs to be kept clean, that is a problem. Filled joints are far simpler to keep clean. Around smaller places like Mochrum, halls, stores and seasonal buildings may not be checked often, giving water time to get in. Early resealing prevents it.
The product called for affects the cost, as does the preparation each joint needs, from cutting out to priming and backing rod. Access, phasing and site rules also count.
