Fire stopping across Wilton

Photos, a specification or a quick description of the joints is enough to start a fixed quote.

Keeping the joints sound

Regular inspection catches problems early. In particular:

  • Keep product data and details in the fire safety file
  • Ask the designer to confirm details early on refits
  • Ask which product is in place before decorating
  • Report damaged or disturbed seals as soon as they’re spotted

During planned inspections, look at seals in risers, cupboards and voids. Look for cracks, unsealed new cables and gaps that have been enlarged, and report them promptly.

The simplest way to keep compartment walls intact is to plan fire stopping into every job that crosses them. Then the seal goes in while the area is open instead of being left for someone else.

About our fire stopping in Wilton

We are commercial sealant applicators, CHAS accredited and a Constructionline member, with CSCS-carded applicators on site. We hold no third-party fire-stopping installer certificate, and we won’t pretend otherwise. What we offer is careful installation of the specified sealant to its tested detail, with a 12-month guarantee on our workmanship. We work on pipe penetrations, service gaps in risers and linear gaps at wall heads, and the usual reasons a site gets in touch are expanding foam used as fire stopping and fire-stopping items raised at inspection or handover. Facilities teams, main contractors and managing agents in Wilton tend to want the same three things: a fixed quote, no surprises on site and a 12-month guarantee behind the result.

Around smaller places such as Wilton, compartment walls and floors tend to be in schools, hotels, care homes and community buildings. Those penetrations are closed with the product the specification names, built up as tested.

Our workmanship is guaranteed for 12 months, wherever the site is. If our installation lets you down in that time, we return and fix it.

Honest limits

Our job is the joint, not everything around it. Sealant alone won’t deal with:

  • Plastic pipes whose detail calls for a collar or wrap
  • Writing the fire-stopping specification
  • Approving the work on behalf of building control

If in doubt, ring 01277 525 020 or send details through our quote form and we’ll say what we think before you book.

What we seal

  • Joints between fire-resisting walls and floors
  • Small duct penetrations where the tested detail allows
  • Service gaps in risers
  • Linear gaps at wall heads
  • Pipe penetrations
  • Cable penetrations

Diagnose, treat, sign off

The first thing on site is a walk round with your contact, to confirm the scope, the order of work and any areas we must keep clear. After that, any old or failed material is removed, each joint is prepared and the new sealant goes in. For a building near Wilton, directions, keys and a contact on the day are worth sorting early. That goes into the plan alongside the quote.

  1. First we go through the drawings, schedule or specification for the seals and ask about anything unclear.
  2. Every penetration is compared with its detail: wall or floor type, service, gap size and depth.
  3. Unsuitable fillers and loose debris are taken out of each opening.
  4. We fit the backing the detail asks for, to the stated depth.
  5. Fire-rated or intumescent sealant is gunned in to the specified depth, then tooled.
  6. If an opening needs something other than sealant, we tell you instead of improvising.

What we need from you

  • Explain the parking and delivery arrangements
  • Agree which areas must stay open
  • Let us know about inductions and permits

Penetration seals near Wilton

Scottish guidance (non-domestic Technical Handbook, clause 2.1.14) asks that penetrations match at least the fire resistance period of the element they pass through, with products tested for that end use. We install what’s specified, to the product’s tested detail. A number of hotels sit less than 2 miles from Wilton. In hotels, bedroom and corridor walls are typically fire-resisting, so services added in a refit need sealing with the specified product.

Office fit-outs on sites such as Annfield Business Centre, under half a mile to the east of Wilton, add cabling and pipework through fire-resisting walls, and fire-rated sealant goes in where the specification calls for it. For a hotel such as Balcary House Hotel, 0.5 miles south-west of Wilton, penetration seals are worth checking after any refit or services upgrade. Holiday works at schools like Hawick High School often leave service openings to seal before pupils return.

What affects the price in Wilton

Before we quote, we look at:

  • How much existing material needs removing
  • Quantities, in metres or numbers
  • Site requirements such as inductions and permits
  • Which sealant the job calls for

Pricing service penetrations depends on how many there are, their condition and the access, plus any specification you are working to. Call for a quote.

Details that help us quote

A good diagnosis starts with the right details. Tell us:

  • Whether an asbestos survey exists
  • Whether the building will be occupied during the work
  • Approximate linear metres or a joint schedule
  • Clear photos of the problem areas

Every quote starts with the facts: the joints involved, quantities, access and the product called for. Send what you have, and we’ll arrange a site visit if anything is unclear.

Questions we’re asked in Wilton

Will you take on work at estates like Annfield Business Centre, close to Wilton?

Yes. Our area takes in Wilton and its surroundings, with estates and business parks such as Annfield Business Centre included. A few photographs and the unit address let us price the work.

Which Scottish guidance covers penetration seals in Wilton?

Under Scotland’s non-domestic Technical Handbook (clause 2.1.14), service penetrations should keep at least the wall or floor’s fire resistance duration, using products tested for their end use. Design sits with the designer and the verifier; installation to the tested detail is our part.

Is any job too small?

We quote for single jobs as well as large packages and programmes. Photos and a description are enough to start.

How much does the work cost?

It depends on the job: the volume of work, the access, the specified product and how it’s phased. Call for a fixed quote.

When can the area be used after sealing?

We’ll confirm how long the chosen product needs to cure.

Can one quote cover more than one building?

Yes. A group of buildings can go on one quote, and you deal with one contact throughout across South East England, Greater London and Scotland.

Can you send site paperwork?

Tell us what site paperwork you need (RAMS, insurance certificate, CSCS details) and we’ll confirm with the quote.

How the job changes by surface

Risers and ceiling voids

Openings above suspended ceilings are easy to miss. We follow your schedule area by area and tell you about openings outside the list.

Small ducts

Ducts are only sealed with sealant where the detail allows it. The ductwork, its supports and any dampers are for the ductwork contractor.
