Need fire stopping in Fifield?

Photos, a specification or a quick description of the joints is enough to start a fixed quote.

About our fire stopping in Fifield

Most of our fire stopping work happens after the building is up. Each new cable, pipe or data route cut through a fire-resisting wall leaves an opening behind, often unnoticed. Those on your schedule are closed with the specified product. If you’re dealing with hidden openings found during inspections and service penetrations left open after M&E works, we can put it right, on pipe penetrations, service gaps in risers and small duct penetrations where the tested detail allows alike. One point of contact handles commercial sealant work in Fifield from the first photos to the final walk-round, whether it’s one building or several.

For a smaller site near Fifield, we plan to do all the penetrations in one go, with the specification and photos sent in advance. We install to the specification and the manufacturer’s guidance, leaving design and sign-off with the designer and building control.

Guaranteed is the last step of every job. You get a 12-month guarantee on our workmanship, and we explain exactly what that covers when we quote.

Work for main contractors and building owners

Main contractors use us as their sealant subcontractor. Programme, specification and site rules come first, and our applicators hold CSCS cards.

Blocks and communal areas make up much of the work for housing associations and agents. Work can be phased so residents and staff keep access throughout, with each stage agreed with your site contact.

What we can’t put right

Part of a good diagnosis is knowing where sealant stops. You’ll hear from us if the cause turns out to be any of the following:

  • Fire doors, dampers or other fire safety equipment
  • Plastic pipes whose detail calls for a collar or wrap
  • Walls or floors that aren’t fire-resisting to begin with

If you’re not sure, just ring 01277 525 020 or email a schedule or drawings and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Joints between fire-resisting walls and floors
  • Linear gaps at wall heads
  • Small duct penetrations where the tested detail allows
  • Cable penetrations
  • Pipe penetrations
  • Service gaps in risers

What happens if it’s left?

Fire stopping is a regular point raised at inspections and handover. Late discoveries can delay handover while openings are reopened and resealed. One visit to deal with every failing joint makes more sense than several trips to a place like Fifield. Photos of every joint help us quote for the whole job.

Pricing service penetrations depends on quantities, condition and access, plus any specification you are working to. Ask us for a fixed quote.

Why us?

  • Work carried out by CSCS-carded applicators

How a job runs

In a busy building, the work is phased so only one area is out of use at a time. Each section is protected, cleaned back and sealed, then handed back before the next one starts. For a building around Fifield, tell us how to find it and who will meet us. Send that with the details and we’ll confirm the plan with the quote.

  1. We read the specification, drawings or penetration schedule you send and ask about anything unclear.
  2. Every penetration is compared with its detail: wall or floor type, service, gap size and depth.
  3. Anything that doesn’t belong in the opening, such as expanding foam or general-purpose filler, is removed.
  4. We fit the backing the detail asks for, to the stated depth.
  5. We apply the specified sealant to the depth and around the services as the detail shows.
  6. If an opening needs something other than sealant, we tell you instead of improvising.

Preparing the site

  • Send any specification or drawings in advance
  • Point out any areas we must not close
  • Let us know about inductions and permits

Getting a fixed quote

A good quote starts with a clear picture: what’s there, how much of it, how we reach it and what’s specified. Share whatever details you have and we will fill any gaps with a visit.

When to bring in a specialist

Redoing a failed joint normally costs more than getting it right at the outset, since all of it has to come out and the faces be cleaned back again. For that reason, many FMs and contractors use a sealant specialist from the outset.

Some joints are best left to specialists: for instance fire-rated seals that must match a tested detail, trafficked floor joints and external movement joints. A poor seal in places like these tends to cost more to put right later.

Different surfaces, different methods

Cables and cable bundles

New data and power cables are the most common breach we see. We reseal around them to the specified detail, and any bundle too large for sealant alone is flagged.

Small ducts

Some fire-rated sealant details cover small ducts. Larger or fire-rated ductwork usually needs a different solution set by the designer and we flag that rather than guess.

Fifield: questions and answers

Is hospital work, at somewhere like King Edward VII Hospital, something you do?

Yes. Healthcare sites are among the places we work. Before anything starts, the estates team agrees permits, inductions and infection-control measures with us.

What happens to BS 476 references for fire stopping in Fifield?

References to BS 476 classes are being removed from Approved Document B from 2 September 2029, after which BS EN 13501-2 classification is the route, subject to transitional arrangements. Whichever applies, we install the specified product to its tested detail; the specification is for the designer to set.

How many days will you need on site?

The duration is planned around your programme and the access we are given. We will give you an estimate of time on site when we quote.

Will you quote for a small job?

Small jobs are welcome alongside larger packages. Send details for a fixed quote.

What hours do you work?

We’re in the office from 8am until 5pm, Monday to Friday. Let us know your site hours and access windows, and the work will be planned around them.

Do you offer coloured sealant?

That depends on the product. Some ranges are wide, others limited, so we will confirm the colours available for the specified product with the quote.

How long will the new sealant last?

There isn’t a single answer, because life depends on how much the joint moves, how exposed it is and how it’s cleaned and used. Regular inspection is the best way to catch problems early.

Where services cross fire walls in Fifield

Fire stopping of openings and penetrations in England falls under Approved Document B. From 2 September 2029, BS 476 references are being taken out of Approved Document B, leaving BS EN 13501-2 classification as the route, subject to the Government’s transitional arrangements. We install whatever has been specified, to the product’s tested detail. Fifield is about 26 miles from central London. Office refits around the commuter belt bring new cabling through fire-resisting walls; the gaps need the specified seal.

Industrial units on estates such as Trade Park, 1.4 miles north-west of Fifield, often separate offices from warehouse space with fire-resisting walls, and new services through them need the specified seal. For a hotel such as Oakley Court Hotel, 1 mile north-east of Fifield, penetration seals are worth checking after any refit or services upgrade. On a hospital site such as King Edward VII Hospital, 3.4 miles to the east of Fifield, fire-rated sealant goes in where the specification calls for it, with the work planned around the estates team’s permits.
