What happens if it’s left?
An improvised seal can look finished while offering no tested performance. The fix is to remove it and reinstall to the detail, and doing it once, properly, is cheaper. Halls, stores and units around places like Allhallows may not be checked every day, which gives a failed joint time to do damage. Renewing joints in good time avoids the problem.
The specified product makes a difference, as does the preparation each joint needs, from cutting out to priming and backing rod. Access, phasing and site requirements come into it too.

About our fire stopping in Allhallows
A fire-rated sealant is only one part of a tested system: the evidence covers a specific product, wall or floor type, service, gap, depth and backing. Before we seal anything, we check the opening against the detail it is meant to follow, and raise it with you if it falls outside. We work on small duct penetrations where the tested detail allows, linear gaps at wall heads and service gaps in risers, and what we are called in for most is hidden openings found during inspections and head-of-wall gaps with no fire seal. Sealant contractors, mastic applicators, sealant specialists: whatever the job title on the order, the work in Allhallows is the same: the right product in a properly prepared joint.
For a smaller site near Allhallows, we plan to do all the penetrations in one go, so send the specification and photographs first. We install to the specification and the manufacturer’s guidance, leaving design and sign-off with the designer and building control.
We sign every job off with a 12-month guarantee. It’s a plain promise: if the work we did fails within twelve months, we return to fix it.

Questions we’re asked in Allhallows
Is Allhallows too small for you to travel to?
Not at all. Allhallows is within our area. We work across Greater London and the South East. Good photos up front let us bring everything on the first visit.
Can you work on a hospital site such as Chartwell Private Hospital?
Yes. Healthcare sites are among the places we work. The estates team’s permit system and infection-control rules come first, and the work is planned around them.
Do you seal openings left by new services?
Yes. Send the schedule or marked-up drawings and the specified product details for a fixed quote. Work can run area by area behind the M&E trades keeping pace with the programme.
Will you sign off the seals for us?
No. Sign-off isn’t ours to give, and we don’t hold a third-party installer certificate. Our part is fitting the specified product to its tested detail, and any records you need can be confirmed with the quote.
What site paperwork can you supply?
Let us know which documents the site needs, such as RAMS, an insurance certificate or CSCS details, and we’ll confirm them with the quote.
Who decides which product is used?
A specification, where there is one, decides it. Without one, the joint decides: how much it moves, what it bonds to and whether it’s wet, trafficked or fire-rated.
Is your workmanship covered by a guarantee?
Yes, for 12 months. If a joint fails because of how we installed it, we come back and put it right.
Should maintenance staff do it?
Using site staff can make sense for a small touch-up, but anything bigger is another matter: a specialist brings efficiency, a consistent finish and a 12-month guarantee.
Certain joints really need a specialist: for example fire-rated seals that must match a tested detail, trafficked floor joints and external movement joints. Getting these wrong normally costs more in the end than doing them right.
Fire stopping around Allhallows: how the place shapes the job
Allhallows is about 32 miles from central London. Offices around the capital are refitted often, and the cabling that follows can breach fire-resisting walls, and the gaps need sealing with the specified product. In England, Approved Document B covers fire stopping of openings and penetrations. The national BS 476 classes are due to drop out of it from 2 September 2029, leaving the European BS EN 13501-2 route, subject to transitional arrangements. Either way, we install the specified product to its tested detail.
Wherever services are added at a hospital such as Chartwell Private Hospital (to the north of Allhallows) the compartment line has to be made good with the specified product. In a school such as Allhallows Primary Academy, fire-rated sealant goes in around service penetrations where it is specified. Older community buildings such as Church of All Saints that have been rewired or given new heating can have service gaps through walls worth checking against the specification.
Allhallows is about 5 miles south-east of Canvey Island, in Medway. Commercial clients in Allhallows can call on us for service penetrations, as part of our coverage of Medway. Our Medway coverage takes in 54 places, large and small. We also cover London, some 32 miles away.

What the job involves on each surface
Drylining partitions
Plasterboard partitions are tested as a specific construction. The sealant detail has to be tested in that wall type, with the stated board layers before sealing.
Small ducts
Ducts are only sealed with sealant where the detail allows it. The ductwork, its supports and any dampers are for the ductwork contractor.
Our process
A typical day starts with protection: tape along each joint edge and covers over finishes, stock and equipment close by. On site, the work usually takes a single visit for a short list of penetrations, or a phased programme for a whole building, and we clear our waste as we work. Jobs in and around smaller places like Allhallows are typically planned as a single visit, so we ask for photos and rough sizes first. That way the right products come on the day.
- First we go through the drawings, schedule or specification for the seals and raise any questions before we price.
- Every penetration is compared with its detail: wall or floor type, service, gap size and depth.
- Anything that doesn’t belong in the opening, such as expanding foam or general-purpose filler, is removed.
- We fit the backing the detail asks for, to the stated depth.
- Fire-rated or intumescent sealant is gunned in to the specified depth, then tooled.
- If an opening needs something other than sealant, we tell you instead of improvising.
Getting the site ready
- Arrange parking or a loading space
- Let us know about inductions and permits
- Move anything stored against the joints

Work for main contractors and building owners
As a CHAS accredited contractor and Constructionline member, we make supplier vetting simple. We are fully insured, and our insurance certificate can go with the quote.
Hospitality, education, healthcare, office and retail clients come to us directly as well. The work is planned around how the building runs, so guests, pupils, patients or staff are disturbed as little as possible.
Aftercare for building managers
To get the most from the new sealant:
- Leave fire sealant to cure fully before covering it
- Treat an open penetration as a priority repair
- Record which product was used where
- Foam or ordinary sealant is never a fire-seal repair
After every round of M&E works, check that the openings created have been sealed. Building it into each contractor’s sign-off keeps the walls intact.
Write fire stopping into the scope of any work crossing a compartment wall or floor. Then the seal goes in while the area is open.
