Facade sealing for businesses in Haster

Send drawings, photos or a joint schedule, or tell us about the site, and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

Common problems we fix in Haster

Overlaying old sealant is a common shortcut that fails quickly. Cured silicone won’t accept a new silicone bead.

What tends to prompt an enquiry:

  • Weathered facade joints that have lost their grip
  • Sealant pulling away from frames or panels
  • Discoloured or dirty facade joints
  • Damp patches beside frames after rain

School extensions, at buildings such as Wick High School, usually run to the summer holidays, mastic included.

What your quote should include

  • Who will actually carry out the work
  • What site paperwork they can supply
  • How long is the guarantee, and what does it include?
  • How they’ll work around occupants

Our contractor checklist

Facade sealing in Haster

We don’t install glazing systems or replace glass. We handle the sealant joints that surround those elements: the frame-to-structure perimeter, panel-to-panel joints and window and door surrounds, using sealants classified for facade or glazing use. The enquiries we see most involve gaps between rainscreen or cladding panels and staining on stone next to old sealant, across shopfront frames, coping and flashing joints and perimeter joints where frames meet the structure. Searching for sealant specialists in Haster? Mastic Doctor has worked for contractors, FMs and building owners since 2005.

Construction around smaller Scottish places like Haster is often one-off schemes: a school, a health centre, a hotel extension or a few houses. The mastic still needs to suit exposed elevations and Scottish weather.

Every job ends the same way: guaranteed. Our workmanship is backed for 12 months, and the quote explains what it covers.

Doing it in-house

Site maintenance staff can often handle a short internal joint. The usual problems come from preparation: sealing over old material, sealing onto damp or dusty surfaces, or a product that can’t take the movement.

What you see is the finished bead, but most of the work is hidden. Backing rod, primer where specified and a joint designed to move with the building are easy to get wrong without experience.

When it isn’t the sealant

A few problems need another trade or a different fix, and we point that out rather than sealing over them:

  • Cracked or spalling substrates that need repair before sealing
  • Providing access systems for the work
  • Leaks from roofs, gutters or failed flashings rather than sealant joints

Not sure which it is? You can give us a call on 01277 525 020 or use the quote form and we will tell you honestly before you book.

What we seal

  • Coping and flashing joints
  • Perimeter joints where frames meet the structure
  • Window and door perimeters
  • Cladding panel joints
  • Stone and brick facade joints
  • Shopfront frames

Surface by surface

Precast concrete panels

Concrete edges can be dusty or weak. We clean back to sound material and flag edges that need repair first.

Perimeter joints at frames and structure

These frame-to-structure joints take a lot of movement and weather. They are cut out, cleaned, backed and resealed using a sealant classified for that use.

Questions we’re asked in Haster

Does your area include sites such as Lochshell Business Park, near Haster?

Yes. Estates, retail parks and business parks around Haster, Lochshell Business Park among them, are all within reach. Send details of the unit and the work through our quote form for a quick quote.

Does a coastal location like Haster affect which sealant is used?

It can. Coastal exposure works external joints harder than inland weather. We check the specified product suits the exposure and pay close attention to preparation.

Do you seal facades in winter?

Rain and frost can pause external sealing. The programme allows for it and we tell you if the forecast changes things throughout the job.

Are you CHAS accredited and on Constructionline?

Yes. We’re CHAS accredited and a Constructionline member.

Do you cover Haster?

Yes. Sites across Haster are covered, with one number for every area we cover.

When is resealing likely to be due?

There’s no fixed lifespan: movement, exposure, cleaning, traffic and the product all play a part. Sealant joints are maintenance items, so inspect them regularly.

Do you need to see the site first?

Many jobs can be quoted from photographs, drawings or a joint schedule. Where they aren’t, we arrange a site visit.

Facades, frames and programmes in Haster

With the shore within about 3 miles, Haster counts as a coastal location. Coastal exposure means perimeter and cladding joints work harder than on an inland job, so we check the specified product suits the exposure before the first bead. The east of Scotland, where Haster is, gets less rain than the west. Frosty spells still affect external mastic dates. External dates keep a little give.

For a contractor working at a hospital such as Caithness General Hospital (2.2 miles east of Haster), perimeter and facade sealing is planned around patients and deliveries. Units on estates such as Lochshell Business Park (2 miles north-east of Haster) tend to be reclad and refitted as tenants change, and each job leaves cladding and perimeter joints to seal.

Haster is about 17 miles south-east of Thurso, in Highland. Any commercial site in Haster is covered, for single jobs and planned programmes alike. Across Highland, 256 places are covered, Haster among them.

We also cover Reiss (2 miles north), Wick (3 miles east), Whiterow (3 miles south-east), Ackergillshore (3 miles north-east) and Staxigoe (4 miles east). Why act early in Haster

A few metres of new sealant compare well with replacing ceilings, linings or damaged stock. Leaks travel along the structure. Around smaller places like Haster, halls, stores and seasonal buildings may not be checked often, so a failed joint has time to cause damage. Resealing early avoids that.

What a job costs comes down to the quantity of joints, how much old material needs removing and the access. Call for a quote when you’re ready.

Why us?

  • Fully insured, including public liability cover
  • Failed material removed, not covered up
  • Colours chosen to suit frames, cladding or finishes where possible
  • One number for every site we cover

How a job runs

We begin with a short walk round with whoever looks after the building, agreeing which joints are in scope, where to start and what must stay open. Then we strip out anything that has failed, prepare every joint and seal it. Where we can, we combine work around Haster with other jobs nearby. Let us know if your dates have any give.

  1. First we review photographs, drawings or what we saw on a visit, and agree how each joint will be reached.
  2. The old bead is cut away completely, not overlaid.
  3. Both faces are cleaned and, where the product needs it, primed.
  4. Backing rod, or bond-breaker tape in shallow joints, limits the depth.
  5. The new sealant goes in and is tooled firmly onto both faces.
  6. We walk the finished joints with you before handing over.

Preparing the site

  • Tell staff and tenants when we will be in
  • Let us know about inductions and permits
  • Point out any areas we must not close
