About our expansion joint sealing in Pleshey

We’ve been sealing expansion and movement joints for over 20 years. CHAS accredited, Constructionline member, CSCS-carded applicators and five million pounds of public liability insurance. Workmanship is backed by our 12-month guarantee. Most enquiries involve torn sealant in brick or block movement joints and sealant pulling off the joint face, on brickwork movement joints, cladding panel joints and podiums and floor movement joints. Most enquiries from Pleshey start with one failed joint and grow into a wider look at the building: we look at the rest while we’re there and tell you what we find.

Around smaller places such as Pleshey, floor joints are often in barns and farm buildings turned into workshops, stores and offices. Whether it’s a farm store turned workshop or a storage unit, the joints need a product that suits the traffic.

The 12-month guarantee covers our workmanship: the preparation, the sealing and the tooling. It doesn’t extend to damage, other trades’ later work or movement the joint was never designed to take.

Where floor joints take the most wear near Pleshey

Pleshey is in the South East, one of the UK’s drier regions. Even so, yard and car park joints are only sealed when they’re dry and clean, while winter salting gets into any joint left open. Pleshey lies roughly 30 miles out from central London. The roads out of London are lined with trade parks and distribution sheds, and their floor joints take forklift and pallet-truck traffic all day.

University campuses such as Anglia Ruskin University (to the south of Pleshey) have car parks, paved walkways and building elevations with movement joints. Hospitals like Broomfield Hospital, 3 miles to the south-east of Pleshey, have multi-storey or surface car parks whose joints carry vehicles round the clock.

Pleshey is about 6 miles north-west of Chelmsford, in Essex. We send applicators to Pleshey for movement joints, handled exactly as we handle every other area. We work across 644 places in Essex, large and small. Our London page has more on work in that area (30 miles or so).

If you need expansion joint sealing in CM3, the process matches everywhere else we work: send details, get a quote, we seal, guaranteed. If your site is on The Street, Back Lane and Woolmers Mead or close by, send details and we will quote for movement joints. We also cover Ford End (2 miles north-east), Howe Street (2 miles east), Hartford End (2 miles north-east), North End (3 miles north) and Chatham Green (3 miles east) for movement joints. A short drive away, we cover Chelmsford (6 miles south-east), Braintree (8 miles north-east), Harlow (13 miles west), Brentwood (13 miles south), Maldon (13 miles south-east) and Billericay (12 miles south).

Different surfaces, different methods

Joints between different materials

Hybrid or MS polymer sealants bond to many substrates. The choice depends on the substrates and how much the joint moves.

Podium joints

On podiums, the joint can belong to a larger waterproofing detail. Where the specification calls for sealant, we reseal and flag it if the membrane looks like the source.

Questions we are asked in Pleshey

Is a smaller place like Pleshey outside your area?

No. Small places get the same service as large ones. Our area covers London and the South East counties. Good photos up front let us bring everything on the first visit.

Do we have to stop operations in Pleshey while the joints are sealed?

Rarely. Work is phased around your operations. The phasing plan comes with the quote.

When is resealing likely to be due?

Nobody can honestly give a figure in years, since movement, weather, cleaning and use all affect it. Regular inspection is the best way to catch problems early.

Can you fit around our working hours?

Give us your site hours and any access windows in your enquiry, and we’ll plan around them. Our office runs Monday to Friday, 8am until 5pm.

What site paperwork can you supply?

Let us know which documents the site needs, such as RAMS, an insurance certificate or CSCS details, and we’ll confirm them with the quote.

Who decides which product is used?

A specification, where there is one, decides it. If there isn’t one, it comes down to the joint: its movement, its surfaces and what it has to cope with.

Can you handle several sites?

Yes. We take on portfolio and planned maintenance work, with each site phased to suit its occupants.

How a job runs

We schedule the visit to fit the site hours and access windows you give us. While we are working, the area stays contained and tidy, and your contact hears from us before we move to the next area. If others near Pleshey need work, visits can be combined. You’ll have a fixed quote before work starts.

  1. The first job is to check each joint: how wide it is, how it moves and why the old seal let go.
  2. Next, we fix a price and confirm the sealant we propose for the movement.
  3. Old sealant and filler are cut out and the joint faces cleaned back to sound material.
  4. Closed-cell backing rod is set to depth, or bond-breaker tape in shallow joints.
  5. Primer goes on where the manufacturer specifies it, followed by the sealant, which is then tooled off.
  6. Each joint is inspected and handed over with our 12-month guarantee.

Advice

How the quote is worked out

What shapes the price:

  • Quantities, in metres or numbers
  • Whether old sealant has to be cut out first
  • The size and state of each joint
  • How accessible the joints are

Pricing movement joints depends on quantities, condition and access, plus any specification you’re working to. Ask us for a fixed quote.

Before you send an enquiry

To price the job accurately, we need to understand the site. Send us:

  • Clear photos of the problem areas
  • What the building is and how it’s used
  • Your programme or deadline
  • Anything awkward about access or site hours

Need a figure for a tender or a budget? We’ll quote against your scope and drawings you can plan around. If you have questions first, call 01277 525 020 or email the details over.

When it isn’t the sealant

We seal joints; we don’t mend everything behind them. On its own, sealant can’t deal with:

  • Changing the joint layout or spacing of a structure
  • Movement on a scale no sealant is meant to absorb
  • Failed waterproofing membranes on podiums, roofs or decks (a waterproofing specialist’s job)

If you are not sure, just call 01277 525 020 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer.

What we seal

  • Cladding panel joints
  • Brickwork movement joints
  • Blockwork control joints
  • Precast concrete panel joints
  • Car park decks and ramps
  • Podiums and floor movement joints

Keeping the joints sound

To get the most from the new sealant:

  • Raise snow-clearing blades over deck joints where possible
  • Note which joints were done, when, and with what
  • Keep racking legs and heavy point loads off floor joints
  • Check joints after long freezing spells

Grit is the slow enemy of a joint seal. Grit trodden or driven into the joint works at the surface until it tears. Regular sweeping keeps joint lines clear.

On a multi-storey car park, a failed joint usually shows up as a leak onto the deck underneath. That water often carries de-icing salts with it. Sealing the joint promptly stops it at source.

Doing it in-house

Redoing a failed joint normally costs more than getting it right at the outset, because the whole bead must be removed and the faces cleaned back again. For that reason, many FMs and contractors use a sealant specialist from the outset.

There’s also the paperwork. Main contractors and clients often ask for CSCS cards, RAMS and insurance details, and our CSCS-carded applicators are used to working under those rules.
