Expansion joint sealing in Hunston, done properly

Our movement joint work takes in walls, panels, decks and floors: vertical joints in brick and block facades, joints between precast or cladding panels, concrete slab and deck joints, ramps, podiums and internal floors. Every one calls for a sealant picked for its movement, exposure and traffic and we name it in the quote. If you have damp inside where a wall movement joint has failed and leaks through car park deck joints onto the level below, we can put it right. Sealant applicators who only do sealant are a different proposition from a general trade with a gun in the van: in Hunston, that means joint design, primers and backing rod as standard.

Jobs around smaller places like Hunston are planned so the whole job is done in one visit, with the right materials on hand. Note joint widths and the traffic that uses them, and we’ll take it from there.

Every job ends the same way: guaranteed. You get a 12-month guarantee on our workmanship, and the quote explains what it covers.

When something else is needed

Not every problem is a sealant problem, and we’d rather tell you before you spend money. It won’t fix:

  • Movement on a scale no sealant is meant to absorb
  • Proprietary pre-formed expansion joint systems
  • A joint that has to be widened or re-detailed before it can work

If in doubt, call the office on 01277 525 020 or send details through our quote form and we’ll say what we think.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Cladding panel joints
  • Brickwork movement joints
  • Car park decks and ramps
  • Blockwork control joints
  • Precast concrete panel joints
  • Podiums and floor movement joints

From enquiry to sign-off

At the end of each section, the masking comes off, the area is cleaned and every joint is checked, ready for your sign-off. If an area should be left alone while the sealant cures, we say how long and put signs out. Jobs in and around smaller places like Hunston are usually planned as a single visit, so we ask for photographs and rough sizes first. Then the right materials arrive with us.

  1. We assess the joints on site or from photos, noting widths and how each has failed.
  2. You receive a fixed quote stating the product and the movement it is rated for.
  3. Phasing is agreed so decks, floors or entrances can stay in use where needed.
  4. We strip the old sealant or filler and prepare each face until it’s sound and dry.
  5. Depth is controlled with backing, the faces are primed where the maker calls for it, then the bead is laid and tooled.
  6. Finished joints are inspected, the cure time confirmed and the 12-month guarantee applies.

Different surfaces, different methods

Podium joints

Podium decks are exposed and often trafficked. A sealant suited to both traffic and exposure is used.

Concrete and precast panel joints

Joints between precast panels open and close with temperature and loading. We use a sealant classed for the movement, laid over backing to depth.

Leave it or put it right?

Closing a car park for a reseal is rarely an option. Work can be planned so parts of the deck stay open, compared with a full closure. Tell us what has to stay open and we will plan around it. For buildings around smaller places like Hunston, water damage can go unnoticed for longer, especially where a building isn’t used daily, so a failed joint can leak for a while before anyone sees it. Resealing early avoids that.

We don’t publish prices, because the scope varies so much from one building to the next. Call for a quote and we’ll price your job on its own details.

General trades versus a specialist

A short, simple internal joint is often within reach of a maintenance team. The usual problems come from preparation: new sealant over old, damp or dusty faces, or the wrong product for the movement.

Putting right a botched joint often costs more than sealing it well at the start, because the whole bead must be removed and the faces cleaned back again. That’s why many clients bring in a specialist from the beginning.

Expansion joint sealing around Hunston: points for this area

The sea is no more than about 3 miles from Hunston. Near the sea, external slabs, ramps and decks see salt air and driven rain as well as their usual loads, which is why split joints are worth sealing before the edges deteriorate. Hunston is in the South East, one of the UK’s drier regions. Even so, yard and car park joints are only sealed when they’re dry and clean, and winter de-icing salt on car parks and ramps works into any open joint.

Hospital campuses such as St Richard's Hospital (2.3 miles north of Hunston) grow in stages, leaving movement joints wherever new blocks meet old. On a site such as City Business Park, 1.5 miles north of Hunston, the movement joints are in car park slabs, paving and building elevations. For estates staff at a university like University of Chichester (2.4 miles north of Hunston), building and paving joints are part of the planned maintenance list.

Hunston is about 2 miles south of Chichester, in West Sussex. Commercial clients in Hunston use us for work on movement joints, as part of our coverage of West Sussex. Across West Sussex, 373 places are covered, Hunston among them. Our Portsmouth page has more on work in that area.

Business premises anywhere in PO20 are within our area. Among the streets we cover are Heath Close, Westlands Road and St Leodegars Way. A short drive away, we cover Bognor Regis (4 miles east), Selsey (5 miles south), Littlehampton (11 miles east), Rustington (12 miles east), Angmering (13 miles east) and Yapton (7 miles east).

After the work

After handover, a little attention goes a long way:

  • Keep scrapers and ploughs from dragging across joint sealant
  • Keep traffic off new joints until the cure time is up
  • Keep racking legs and heavy point loads off floor joints
  • Record the sealant used and the date in the O&M file

Movement joints belong on the planned maintenance inspection list. Early splits and edges starting to lift show up on a routine check. If anything looks wrong, give us a call on 01277 525 020 or email drawings and photos with photos.

Unsupported floor joint edges spall under forklift and pallet-truck wheels. Damaged edges make the floor rough and wear wheels faster and the broken length grows with every pass. Keeping the filler or sealant sound protects the floor.

Questions we are asked in Hunston

Our building in Hunston is near the coast: does that change the sealant?

It can. Coastal exposure works external joints harder than inland weather. We check the specified product suits the exposure and pay close attention to preparation.

Do you cover business parks and estates near Hunston, such as City Business Park?

Yes. Estates, retail parks and business parks around Hunston, City Business Park among them, are all within reach. A few photos and the unit address let us price the work.

Can you work while the building is occupied?

Yes, with some planning. Tell us your site hours and access windows and we’ll plan around them.

Can you work to our specification?

Yes. Send it with your enquiry, and the quote will be based on it.

What’s the quickest route to a quote?

You can use the quote form on this site; alternatively, phone 01277 525 020 or email us. Include photographs or drawings if you have them.

Which sealant will you use?

If the job is specified, we follow the specification. Otherwise, we recommend a product to suit the joint’s movement, the substrate and the conditions, following the manufacturer’s guidance.

What do you charge?

It depends on the job: quantities, access, the product and any phasing. Call for a quote.
