About our construction mastic in Askomill

Mastic is often where a new building first shows its quality to the client. Untidy or missed joints are among the commonest snag items. Our aim is joints that pass at the first inspection, whatever the size of the scheme. If you have internal caulk splitting as the building dries out and frame perimeters left unsealed or poorly sealed, we can help, whatever the surface. Looking for mastic applicators who cover Askomill? Mastic Doctor has worked for contractors, FMs and building owners since 2005.

In smaller places such as Askomill, building work tends to be single schemes rather than big developments. Exposed elevations in Scotland put facade and perimeter joints to work from day one, so the sealant choice matters.

The 12-month guarantee is for workmanship rather than wear and tear. Sealant wears with time, and movement, weather, cleaning and use decide how fast, so we spell out the cover before we begin.

Your questions answered

Does a coastal location like Askomill affect which sealant is used?

It can, yes: buildings near the sea take more wind-driven rain, and salt in the air nearer the shore. Product choice and preparation matter more, and sea-facing elevations are worth inspecting more often.

Is Askomill too small for you to travel to?

No. Small places get the same service as large ones. Our area covers all of Scotland, cities, towns and islands alike. We plan jobs in smaller places so return trips are kept to a minimum.

How long does a typical visit take?

The duration is planned around your programme and the access we’re given. We will give you an estimate of time on site when we quote.

Can you clear a mastic snag list before handover?

Yes. We can work through a mastic snag list area by area before handover, cutting out damaged or poor joints and resealing them.

Can you work plot by plot or floor by floor?

Our work is sequenced around the programme. Areas are sealed as they’re released by the site team and we tell you if something stops an area being sealed.

Can you send site paperwork?

Tell us what site paperwork you need (RAMS, insurance certificate, CSCS details) and we will confirm with the quote.

Do your applicators hold CSCS cards?

Our applicators hold CSCS cards, and we are CHAS accredited and a Constructionline member. Public liability insurance of five million pounds is in place too.

Diagnose, treat, sign off

In a busy building, we agree a sequence with your contact so the disruption stays in one area at once. Each area is protected, prepared and sealed, then handed back before we move to the next. For work around Askomill, we aim for one trip, so photos, sizes and a full list matter. Outside work also needs a suitable weather window.

  1. First we look at the scope on site or from drawings.
  2. You receive a fixed quote covering scope, products and sequence.
  3. Paperwork is agreed and applicators are inducted on site.
  4. Sealing follows the programme as areas are released.
  5. Any frame gaps or issues outside our scope are flagged to the site team.
  6. The package is closed out, snags cleared and backed by our 12-month guarantee.

Before we start on site

  • Share your working hours and any access restrictions
  • Tell us what induction or permit system the site runs
  • Warn occupants and staff about the work

Leave it or put it right?

A cheaper sealant can look like an easy saving on a large package. The saving is small next to the cost of callbacks and defects and external joints are where it shows first. Where an alternative is genuinely suitable, we will say so. Around smaller places like Askomill, halls, stores and seasonal buildings may not be checked often, giving water time to get in. Early resealing prevents it.

Small jobs and large programmes are priced from the same things: what’s in scope, how we reach it, what’s specified and when it needs doing. Call for a quote, and you will have a fixed figure to work with.

What you get with us

  • CSCS-carded applicators
  • Colour agreed before work starts
  • Workmanship guaranteed for 12 months
  • Fully insured, including public liability cover

When something else is needed

We seal joints; we don’t mend everything behind them. On its own, sealant can’t deal with:

  • Deciding which fire-stopping product a penetration needs
  • Defective windows, doors or glazing units (the supplier or installer’s job)
  • Oversized gaps that need packing or adjustment by others

Not sure which it is? You can phone 01277 525 020 or email us and we will tell you honestly.

What we seal

  • Cladding and panel joints
  • Brick and block movement joints
  • Sanitary and kitchen joints
  • Floor and skirting junctions
  • Window and door perimeters
  • Internal decorators’ caulk

Do you need construction mastic in Askomill?

Three-sided adhesion is a frequent fault on new work. Fixed to three faces, the sealant rips the first time the joint opens.

Things that usually lead to an enquiry:

  • Cracks opening in caulked internal joints
  • Sealant knocked or painted over by other trades
  • External joints sealed in damp or cold conditions that are now failing
  • A mastic package split between trades with no clear owner

Hotel extensions and refits, at places such as Craigard House - Hotel, which lies east of Askomill, usually run between busy periods, so the sealing is squeezed into short windows.

What your quote should include

  • Is the sealant right for the movement and the substrate?
  • How the joint faces will be prepared and primed
  • Whether old or failed sealant will be cut out, not overlaid
  • What site paperwork they can supply

Our contractor checklist

Should maintenance staff do it?

For a quick touch-up, site staff may be fine, but anything bigger is another matter: a specialist brings efficiency, a consistent finish and a 12-month guarantee.

Paperwork matters too. Main contractors and clients often ask for CSCS cards, RAMS and insurance details, and our CSCS-carded applicators are used to working under those rules.

Mastic packages on Askomill sites

Askomill lies within about 1 mile of the sea. On a coastal site, facade and perimeter joints face driven rain and, closer to the beach, salt, so joint design, primers and product choice deserve extra care. Askomill has a number of hotels close by, all within 2 miles. When hotels extend or refit, the work is usually squeezed between peak periods, mastic included.

New wings at hospitals like Campbeltown Hospital (0.6 miles south-west of Askomill) bring long runs of window and panel joints to seal. Recladding or extending a unit at a site like Hazelburn Business Park (to the west of Askomill) brings panel joints and frame perimeters into the programme.

Askomill is in Argyll and Bute. Across the PA28 postcode area, the process is the same: send details, get a fixed quote, we seal, and the work is guaranteed. Our Argyll and Bute coverage takes in 124 places, large and small. Sites around Glasgow have their own page, about 59 miles away.

Work on mastic packages is covered throughout PA28. For a building on High Street, Lochruan Road and John Street or nearby, send details and we will quote for mastic packages. Sites close to Askomill are covered too, including Campbeltown (1 mile south-west), Kilkerran (1 mile south), Drumlemble (4 miles west), West Darlochan (4 miles north-west) and Southend (8 miles south). Island and remote sites need extra planning, with travel, ferry crossings where needed and weather to allow for, so give the site location in your enquiry.

How the quote is worked out

There’s no standard rate for sealant work, because every site is different. What we take into account:

  • Access and working height
  • How much existing material needs removing
  • Quantities, in metres or numbers
  • Joint width, depth and condition

The specified product makes a difference, as does the preparation each joint needs, from cutting out to priming and backing rod. Access, phasing and site rules also count.

Before you send an enquiry

Diagnosis starts before we arrive. Tell us:

  • How the joints are reached, and at what height
  • What the building is and how it’s used
  • Any dates the work must fit around
  • Specification clauses that apply

A handful of photographs and a postcode is the fastest way to a quote. Send them through the quote form, or ring 01277 525 020 or send photos by email if you’d rather talk the job through.
