Coloured sealant in Star

Share the site address and what’s failing, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote or arrange a visit.

Do you need coloured sealant in Star?

Exposure takes its toll on colour. Sunlight, dirt and pollution can darken, yellow or chalk the surface, so joints that once matched no longer do. A reseal brings the colour back in line.

These are often picked up first by site or facilities staff:

  • Sealant that no longer suits recoated frames
  • Dirty, discoloured joints in public areas
  • Old sealant that has yellowed, darkened or faded
  • Shop fits that need consistent sealant colours across sites

If you look after units at a retail site such as Queensway Retail Park, which lies south-west of Star, shopfront perimeters and shop-fit joints are where a matched colour shows.

  • Will CSCS-carded applicators be on site?
  • Are they CHAS accredited or on Constructionline?
  • Will failed sealant be removed rather than covered?

How to choose a sealant contractor

How we handle coloured sealant in Star

We take on colour-matched work across new fit-outs, refurbishments and resealing of existing joints. When replacing old joints, the new colour normally has to match what’s already there. Site teams most often ask us about weathered sealant that no longer matches and joints that need to match a new RAL frame colour, across powder-coated and anodised frames, natural stone and brick and shop-fit joinery and counters. Sealant applicators who only do sealant are a different proposition from a general trade with a gun in the van: in Star, that means joint design, primers and backing rod as standard.

Scottish weather decides a lot about outside work in a place like Star: outside joints need dry, frost-clear surfaces, so we agree a window with some give in it. Indoor work isn’t held up by rain.

Whoever the client is, the cover is the same: twelve months on the work we carried out. Faults in the structure, damage and other trades’ work fall outside it, and we say so plainly.

Diagnose, treat, sign off

Working in a building that stays open takes some planning. The work area is signed and kept contained, keep walkways clear and work section by section so the rest of the building stays in use. Where we can, we combine work around Star with other jobs nearby. Tell us how flexible your dates are.

  1. We confirm the joint type and the product it needs.
  2. We compare the target colour with the colours available.
  3. You approve the colour, on site if it’s critical.
  4. The existing bead comes out, then faces are cleaned and backed.
  5. We mask, seal and tool to a clean line.
  6. We remove the masking and walk the finished joints with you.

Before we start on site

  • Tell us your opening times and when work is allowed
  • Agree which areas must stay open
  • Clear stock, furniture or equipment away from the joints

What sets the cost

To price the job, we consider:

  • Working within restricted access windows
  • How much there is to seal
  • Site requirements such as inductions and permits
  • Removal of failed or old sealant

Small jobs and large programmes are priced from the same things: scope, access, product and programme. Call for a quote and we’ll put a fixed figure on it.

Details that help us quote

It doesn’t need to be a full survey. These details are enough to start:

  • Approximate linear metres or a joint schedule
  • Any dates the work must fit around
  • Asbestos survey details if the building is older
  • The type of building and who uses it

To get a fixed quote, speak to us on 01277 525 020 or send details through our quote form, telling us the site location and the nature of the job. You can also send details through our quote form.

Star: questions and answers

Must a hotel around Star close while you work?

In the majority of cases no closure is needed: we work room by room or floor by floor. The plan is built around your bookings.

Is Star too far out for you?

Not at all: smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across every Scottish council area. Send photos and a list of what needs doing, and we’ll plan the job to need as few trips as possible.

Is it fine to apply new sealant on top of old?

No, never. Overlaying old sealant is a frequent cause of early failure, so everything comes out first.

Are you CHAS accredited and on Constructionline?

Yes. CHAS accredited, Constructionline member, and our applicators hold CSCS cards.

How long will the new sealant last?

Nobody can honestly give a figure in years, because life depends on how much the joint moves, how exposed it is and how it’s cleaned and used. Regular checks let you plan resealing before leaks or damage.

Do you do a sample bead?

Yes. Tell us who approves colour and we will plan the sample into the programme before the main run.

What hours do you work?

We are in the office from 8am until 5pm, Monday to Friday. Let us know your site hours and access windows, and the work will be planned around them.

What sealant work can’t fix

Sealant solves a lot, but not everything, and we’d rather tell you before you spend money. It won’t fix:

  • Custom-mixed sealant colours
  • Materials with mixed tones that defy a single match
  • Repairing damaged frames or cladding

If you are not sure, just call the office on 01277 525 020 or email drawings and photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Where we work in Star

  • Powder-coated and anodised frames
  • Cladding panels
  • Hotel bathrooms and public areas
  • Natural stone and brick
  • Shop-fit joinery and counters
  • Office fit-out finishes

Different surfaces, different methods

Powder-coated and anodised frames

Window, door and shopfront frames in RAL colours often need a sealant to suit. The frame colour is checked against what the product is made in, and the nearest option is agreed.

Hotel interiors

Hotels use colour-matched sealant in bathrooms, bedrooms and public areas. Sanitary silicone comes in colours too, so bathrooms can match the tiling or stone.
