Coloured sealant in Rhu

Share the site address and what’s failing, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote or arrange a visit.

Commercial clients in Rhu

Hotels, schools, healthcare sites, offices and retail units book us directly too. The work is planned around how the building runs, so the building keeps working while we do.

We take on planned maintenance as well as one-off repairs: working through a building or an estate in stages that fit your budget. Sites in Rhu can sit alongside others in a wider programme across Argyll and Bute.

Coloured sealant in Rhu, done properly

Where colour is critical, a sample bead in a discreet spot settles the question. Cured sealant may look a shade different from the wet bead, and lighting changes it again, so approving a sample on site is worth doing. Let us know who signs off colour, and we will fit the sample into the programme. If you are dealing with a bead that fights the cladding or frame colour and sealant that no longer suits recoated frames, we can help, on office fit-out finishes, cladding panels and shop-fit joinery and counters alike. Searching for sealant specialists in Rhu? Mastic Doctor has worked for contractors, FMs and building owners since 2005.

For a job around Rhu, the Scottish weather is part of the planning: sealant needs a dry joint and the right temperature, so external work has a weather window built in. Internal joints can be done whatever the day brings.

The 12-month guarantee is for workmanship rather than wear and tear. Sealant wears with time, and movement, weather, cleaning and use decide how fast, so we’re clear about what is covered before work starts.

Frontages, fit-outs and joints in Rhu

Rhu is within about 1 mile of the coast. Shopfronts, frames and external joints on commercial buildings there take wind-driven rain and, closer to the shore, salt in the air. Where a frontage needs a particular colour, the product still has to suit that exposure. The area within 2 miles of Rhu holds several hotels. Refits in hotels bring joints at vanity tops, bar counters and reception desks where the colour has to suit the scheme, with rooms done in turn while the rest stay let.

For premises near Helensburgh Upper station, which lies east of Rhu, footfall is part of the plan: work is phased so shops and offices keep trading. In hotels such as Rosslea Hall Hotel, which lies south-west of Rhu, refurbishments typically mean bathroom, bar and reception joints where a matched sealant colour has to sit with the finishes.

Rhu is about 2 miles west of Helensburgh, in Argyll and Bute. Any commercial site in Rhu is covered. 124 places across Argyll and Bute fall within our area, including Rhu. For work in that direction, see our Glasgow page.

Business premises anywhere in G84 are within our area. If your site is on Church Road, Station Road and Inchgower Grove or close by, send details and we’ll quote for colour-matched joints. Nearby towns on our patch include Dunoon (7 miles south-west), Cardross (6 miles south-east), Garelochhead (5 miles north-west), Sandbank (7 miles south-west) and Innellan (11 miles south-west). Different surfaces, different methods

Paintable sealants

Some joints are better sealed with a paintable product and decorated. That only works where the joint and specification allow it because paint may crack where the joint moves.

Hotel interiors

Phased resealing lets rooms go back into use quickly. We plan around your occupancy so rooms return to service in stages.

Our process

Tell us your site hours and access windows and we’ll plan around them. While we’re working, the area stays contained and tidy, and we check in with your contact before moving on to each new area. For a building near Rhu, directions, keys and a contact on the day are worth sorting early. That goes into the plan alongside the quote.

  1. Photos or drawings show us the finishes and joints.
  2. We send the closest colours from the product’s range.
  3. The programme and access are agreed, including any phasing.
  4. Joints are prepared, primed where specified and backed.
  5. The agreed colour is installed and tooled neatly.

What we need from you

  • For older buildings, check the asbestos register before work
  • Confirm the product named in the specification
  • Make sure the joints can be reached

Maintenance after handover

To get the most from the new sealant:

  • Put the colour reference on the finishes schedule
  • Keep the area clear while the sealant cures
  • Plan full-run reseals on visible elevations
  • Standardise colours across a portfolio

Let the joints cure as the manufacturer advises before they’re cleaned. Fresh coloured beads show fingerprints and dust more easily, so brief cleaners and other trades.

Put the sealant colour into the specification or finishes schedule. When colour is left to the last minute, it is often wrong.

Why act early in Rhu

Matching new joints to the existing ones is easier when the whole run is done together. Small repairs at different times rarely match, and the patchwork effect grows. Exposed buildings in Scotland take a lot of weather, and for a smaller place like Rhu, a repair visit takes planning, so it’s better to act early.

There’s no price list, since every building and every scope is different. For a fixed figure, call for a quote and we will price your job on its own details.

Should maintenance staff do it?

Putting right a botched joint often costs more than sealing it well at the start, since all of it has to come out and the faces be cleaned back again. For that reason, many FMs and contractors use a sealant specialist from the outset.

Certain joints really need a specialist: fire-rated seals that must follow a tested detail, trafficked floor joints and external movement joints among them. Getting these wrong typically costs more in the end than doing them right.

Your questions answered

Is Rhu off your patch?

Not at all. Rhu is within our area. We cover the whole of Scotland. Send photos and a list of what needs doing, and we will plan the job to need as few trips as possible.

Do hotels near Rhu have to close for sealant work?

Rarely. Rooms or floors are done in turn, so the rest of the hotel keeps trading. We agree the order of rooms and the timings with you before we start.

Can you guarantee a perfect colour match?

No, not in every case. We choose the nearest standard colour and can agree a sample bead first.

Do your applicators hold CSCS cards?

Yes. Should the site need card details in advance, tell us and we will confirm them with the quote.

How do you deal with asbestos in old sealant?

Some older mastics, especially in pre-2000 buildings, can contain asbestos. We check the asbestos register before cutting out old sealant in an older building, and work stops until any suspect material has been tested. Removing asbestos is a job for asbestos specialists, not us.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. We are fully insured, and the certificate can go with your quote.

Do you take on small jobs?

Small jobs are welcome alongside larger packages. Photos and a description are enough to start.
