Coloured sealant near Blackdog

Tell us what needs sealing and where, with photos or drawings if you have them, and we’ll price it.

Cost factors for colour-matched joints

Quotes vary with the job. Expect it to depend on:

  • Whether old sealant has to be cut out first
  • Quantities, in metres or numbers
  • Working within restricted access windows
  • Backing rod, priming and other preparation

Quantities, awkward access and phased working all shape the price. Site requirements like inductions and permits play a part as well, along with the time of year for external work.

Sending details for a quote

To price the job accurately, we need a clear picture of the site. Useful things to include:

  • Specification clauses that apply
  • The type of building and who uses it
  • Approximate linear metres or a joint schedule
  • The site address and postcode

For a fixed quote, ring 01277 525 020 or email drawings and photos with the site address and an outline of the work. Our quote form is another easy route.

How we handle coloured sealant in Blackdog

A colour-matched bead still has to work as a seal. Each joint is cleaned, backed to depth and tooled firmly onto both faces, exactly as for a standard colour. Clean masking and steady tooling give the sharp lines colour work needs. Site teams most often ask us about shop fits that need consistent sealant colours across sites and poorly tooled joints on visible finishes, across hotel bathrooms and public areas, shop-fit joinery and counters and cladding panels. A single leaking joint is often how a building in Blackdog first comes to us: we check the joints around it and give you an honest view of what needs doing now and what can wait.

For work in and around Blackdog, we’d rather do everything on one trip: send photographs and a complete list so the right products and colours come on the day. Several jobs nearby can also be put together.

Every job ends the same way: guaranteed. You get a 12-month guarantee on our workmanship, and the quote explains what it covers.

Looking after the joints

Keep the joints in good shape with a few simple steps:

  • Keep harsh solvents away from visible joints
  • Keep the colour details for future repairs
  • Put the colour reference on the finishes schedule
  • Plan full-run reseals on visible elevations

Give the sealant its full cure time before cleaning or handling the area. Fresh coloured beads show fingerprints and dust more easily.

Settle the colour early in the project. Late decisions lead to substitutes and mismatches; fixing it early prevents rework.

Should maintenance staff do it?

Some joints are best left to specialists: for example fire-rated seals that must match a tested detail, trafficked floor joints and external movement joints. Getting these wrong usually costs more in the end than doing them right.

There’s also the paperwork. Many sites expect CSCS cards, RAMS and proof of insurance, and our CSCS-carded applicators are used to working under those rules.

What sealant work can’t fix

A proper diagnosis includes knowing what sealant can’t do. We’ll tell you if the real problem is one of these:

  • Restoring stained stone or masonry next to old sealant
  • A colour that never alters with age
  • Finishes that change colour from one area to another

If in doubt, phone 01277 525 020 or email a schedule or drawings and we’ll say what we think.

What we seal

  • Cladding panels
  • Powder-coated and anodised frames
  • Natural stone and brick
  • Shop-fit joinery and counters
  • Office fit-out finishes
  • Hotel bathrooms and public areas

Your questions answered

Do you cover business parks and estates near Blackdog, such as Blackdog Industrial Centre?

Yes. Our area takes in Blackdog and its surroundings, with estates and business parks such as Blackdog Industrial Centre included. A few photographs and the unit address let us price the work.

Is Blackdog too far out for you?

Not at all. Blackdog is within our area. Our area covers all of Scotland, cities, towns and islands alike. We plan jobs in smaller places so return trips are kept to a minimum.

Can the building stay open while you work?

Yes, as long as we plan it. We agree a sequence with your contact so just one area at a time is disrupted.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. Our insurance certificate can be sent alongside the quote.

How do you choose the sealant?

If the job is specified, we follow the specification. If not, we choose for the movement, the surfaces and the conditions, in line with the manufacturer’s guidance.

Can you seal to a brand colour across several sites?

Yes. We work with shop fitters, hotel groups and office fit-out contractors. Sites anywhere in our area, from London and the South East to Scotland, can be included.

Will the colour fade over time?

It can, to a degree. How much depends on the product, the colour and the exposure.

Our process

Working in a building that stays open takes some planning. The work area is signed and kept contained, keep walkways clear and work section by section so the rest of the building stays in use. For work around Blackdog, we aim for one trip, so photos, sizes and a full list matter. Outside work also needs a suitable weather window.

  1. Photos or drawings show us the finishes and joints.
  2. We send the closest colours from the product’s range.
  3. The programme and access are agreed, including any phasing.
  4. We prepare each joint, prime where needed and fit backing.
  5. The agreed colour is installed and tooled neatly.

Getting the site ready

Advice

Common problems we fix in Blackdog

Patch repairs in a different colour are a common problem. Mixed repairs over time leave a run of mismatched joints. Resealing a whole run in one agreed colour tidies it up.

These are often picked up first by site or facilities staff:

  • Poorly tooled joints on visible finishes
  • Patch repairs in several different colours
  • A bead that fights the cladding or frame colour
  • Shop fits that need consistent sealant colours across sites

If you have premises on more than one site, say at Blackdog Industrial Centre and Core Business Park, one contractor and one quote can cover both.

What Blackdog’s businesses ask us to seal

Blackdog is within about 1 mile of the coast. Exposed frontages near the sea are hard on sealant, so the product has to suit the weather as well as the look. We choose a product rated for the exposure, then confirm the colours available for it. Being in the east of Scotland, Blackdog gets less rain than the west coast. Cold snaps still affect when external joints can be sealed. In winter, outside joints are timed for when surfaces are dry and within the product’s range

If you run a unit on an estate such as Blackdog Industrial Centre (less than half a mile north-west of Blackdog), the trade counter, offices and staff facilities have joints to look after as well as the warehouse. Premises within reach of Dyce station, 4.8 miles to the west of Blackdog, often have busy frontages where joints are seen by everyone passing.

Blackdog is about 5 miles north-east of Aberdeen, in Aberdeenshire. Our applicators travel to Blackdog for work on colour-matched joints, handled exactly as we handle every other area. We work across 179 places in Aberdeenshire, large and small.
