Common questions from Clachan Shannda clients
What site paperwork comes with a job in Clachan Shannda?
We’ll confirm the paperwork you need, such as RAMS, our insurance certificate and CSCS details, with the quote. We hold £5m public liability insurance, are CHAS accredited and a Constructionline member, and our applicators are CSCS-carded.
Will you travel to Clachan Shannda on the island?
Yes, Clachan Shannda is within the area we cover. We cover the whole of Scotland. We group island work where we can and plan around the crossings.
Is it possible to just clean mouldy silicone?
Cleaning may lighten it, but the mould returns. New anti-mould sanitary silicone is the treatment and check the ventilation isn’t the cause.
Does the weather affect the work?
It can, when the joints are outside. Wet joints and cold, damp or frosty conditions stop the sealant bonding properly, so external work may be moved if conditions aren’t right. Internal work is far less affected.
Is it OK to put new silicone on top of the old?
The whole of the old bead is removed and the surfaces cleaned before resealing. That’s what makes the new joint last.
Which sealant will you use?
If the job is specified, we follow the specification. If not, we choose for the movement, the surfaces and the conditions, in line with the manufacturer’s guidance.
How long does a typical visit take?
The duration is planned around your programme and the access we’re given. We’ll give you an estimate of time on site when we quote.
Washroom sealing in Clachan Shannda, done properly
Accessible toilets, shower rooms and changing rooms have joints that work harder than most: shower trays, wet-room floor edges, basins and floor-to-wall junctions. Gaps in those places let water get under the floor or behind panels so they get particular attention. If you are dealing with black mould inside silicone joints that cleaning can’t shift and sealant lifting along a tray edge, we can help, on vanity units and basins, accessible toilets and changing rooms and IPS panels and cubicles alike. Whoever orders the work in Clachan Shannda, the brief is typically the same: a clear scope, tidy work and joints that don’t fail again.
Around smaller places such as Clachan Shannda, washrooms and kitchens are found in hotels, pubs, schools, care homes and halls. Mould grows into sealant in any wet room that doesn’t dry out, and the answer is removal and a fresh bead of anti-mould silicone.

Wet areas in Clachan Shannda’s workplaces
Clachan Shannda is within about 1 mile of the coast, and places by the sea often rely on visitors, so their hotels and holiday lets see heavy seasonal use. Showers and en suites in constant use are where silicone moulds and splits first, so we plan the work for quieter weeks where possible. The west of Scotland, where Clachan Shannda is, gets more rain than the east. Where ventilation is poor, damp washrooms here tend to see black mould in the sealant sooner.
Washrooms near Clachan Shannda get the old silicone stripped out and a fresh anti-mould bead on dry joints. For buildings around Clachan Shannda, washrooms can be done in phases so some facilities are always open.

Why act early in Clachan Shannda
Running fresh silicone along a failed bead hides the problem briefly. Silicone won’t grip silicone, so it lifts and holds moisture underneath. Full removal and proper cleaning is what makes the new joint last. Exposed buildings in Scotland take a lot of weather, and for a smaller place like Clachan Shannda, a repair visit takes planning, so it’s better to act early.
The price depends on the quantity of joints, how much old material needs removing and the access. Call for a fixed quote when you’re ready.

IPS and cubicle panels
Panels flex slightly in use so the bead needs to cope with it. Loose panels are flagged before any sealant goes on.
Changing rooms and gyms
Changing rooms can be phased so one stays open. Tell us your site hours and access windows and we’ll plan around them.

What sealant work can’t fix
Our job is the joint, not everything around it. Sealant alone won’t deal with:
- Hollow tiles or loose panels behind the joint
- Vanity carcasses that have swollen
- Leaking pipes, traps, wastes or cisterns, which need a plumber
Not sure which it is? You can give us a call on 01277 525 020 or email a schedule or drawings and we will tell you honestly.
Surfaces we seal
- IPS panels and cubicles
- Accessible toilets and changing rooms
- Kitchens and tea points
- Showers, trays and wet room floors
- Urinals and WCs
- Vanity units and basins
Looking after the joints
Regular inspection catches problems early. In particular:
- Tell us about infection-control or permit rules before we quote
- Keep washrooms out of use until we say the sealant has cured
- Keep extract fans working and vents clear
- Avoid scourers and harsh descalers on silicone
Where possible, have shower floors and trays squeegeed after busy periods. Standing water on a joint all day shortens its life.
Water getting behind IPS panels and vanity units can swell the boards. Once that happens, a reseal won’t fix them.
