Floor joint sealing for Sheerness sites

Share the site address and what’s failing, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote or arrange a visit.

What sealant work can’t fix

Some faults sit outside our scope, and we say so rather than covering them up:

  • Broken concrete either side of the joint
  • Worn screed or surface finishes
  • A floor that is out of level for the racking or trucks

If in doubt, call the office on 01277 525 020 or email us and we will say what we think.

What we seal

  • Construction joints
  • Loading bays
  • Forklift and pallet-truck routes
  • Saw-cut induced joints
  • Retail and showroom floors
  • Joints along racking aisles

About our floor joint sealing in Sheerness

A working floor can rarely be closed for days on end, so the work is split into zones and treated one area at a time. Tell us your site hours and access windows and we’ll plan around them, with goods still moving in the areas we aren’t in. Site teams most often ask us about old filler gone hard, cracked or loose and dock area joints that have failed first, on forklift and pallet-truck routes, joints along racking aisles and construction joints. Sealant applicators who only do sealant are a different proposition from a general trade with a gun in the van: in Sheerness, that means joint design, primers and backing rod as standard.

Small units near places like Sheerness are often converted farm buildings with new concrete floors. Joints in those slabs need a product suited to whatever runs over them, from pallet trucks to foot traffic.

Building owners and contractors get the same cover: a 12-month guarantee on our workmanship. It doesn’t extend to damage, faults in the building or work by others, and we’re upfront about that.

On site: what to expect

Our CSCS-carded applicators arrive with the sealants, primers and backing rod the job calls for. Any old material is cut back to clean, sound faces, the manufacturer’s primer is applied where it’s called for, and the sealant is tooled off neatly. For a site in Sheerness, we plan so the whole job is done in one go where possible. Photos with rough sizes let us arrive with everything needed.

  1. We walk the floor and mark up joint widths, edge damage and traffic routes.
  2. You receive a fixed quote showing products and phasing.
  3. Old fill and packed debris come out until both faces are sound.
  4. We extract the dust and prime the faces if the product needs it.
  5. Filler or sealant is placed to depth and finished flush.
  6. We hand each phase back when it can take traffic.

Advice

Looking after the joints

A few simple habits keep the new joints working:

  • Keep grit out of unfilled joints in the meantime
  • Put loading bays at the top of the list
  • Photograph any joint that starts to chip
  • Tell us about strong cleaning chemicals before we quote

Ask drivers not to drag forks or pallets along the floor. Even a well-filled joint can be damaged by steel scraping along it if it keeps happening.

Grit in an open joint does damage every time a wheel crosses it. Getting it filled stops the damage while it is still a straightforward job.

Questions about Sheerness

Can you work at a site such as Neats Court Retail Park, by Sheerness?

Yes. Estates, retail parks and business parks around Sheerness, Neats Court Retail Park among them, are all within reach. Send details of the unit and the work through our quote form for a quick quote.

Do you take on work at healthcare sites like Sheppey Community Hospital?

Yes. We work in healthcare settings as well as offices and schools. Before anything starts, the estates team agrees permits, inductions and infection-control measures with us.

What happens if old sealant might contain asbestos?

The duty to manage asbestos sits with the building’s dutyholder, so for older buildings we ask for the asbestos register first. If anything suspect turns up, we stop until it’s tested.

Can you work to our specification?

Yes. Send it with your enquiry, and we will price the work to it, flagging anything that needs clarifying.

Can you send site paperwork?

Requirements differ from site to site, so tell us what you need and we’ll confirm it when we quote.

Can weather delay the job?

For external joints, yes. Sealant needs a dry joint and a temperature within the product’s range, so frost, rain or cold mornings can delay outside work. Internal work is rarely affected.

Do you seal on top of existing sealant?

No. Overlaying old sealant is a frequent cause of early failure, so it all comes out first.

Joints that move: notes for Sheerness

Sheerness is within about 1 mile of the coast. Open joints in coastal car parks and yards let in salt-laden water as well as grit, so it pays to keep them sealed. The South East is one of the drier parts of the UK. Even so, yard and car park joints are only sealed when they’re dry and clean, while winter salting gets into any joint left open.

At places like Walbrook Business Park, 2 miles to the south of Sheerness, joints are sealed a section at a time so operations carry on. For a store at a site such as Neats Court Retail Park, 1.9 miles to the south of Sheerness, the service yard and goods-in area are where joints break down first. For an estate such as Sheppey Community Hospital, 2.1 miles to the south-east of Sheerness, the joints in ramps, decks and long building elevations all need attention over time.

Sheerness is about 7 miles north of Sittingbourne, in Kent. We cover commercial sites throughout Sheerness, whether it’s a single job or part of a planned programme. 931 places across Kent fall within our area, Sheerness among them. Sites around London have their own page, roughly 37 miles from Sheerness.

We cover the ME12 postcode districts for floor joints. We cover commercial and managed buildings on High Street, Granville Road and Millennium Way and the roads nearby. Main routes into Sheerness include the A249 and A250. Close to Sheerness, our area also takes in Blue Town (1 mile north-west), Halfway Houses (1 mile south-east), Queenborough (2 miles south), Rushenden (2 miles south-west) and Grain (2 miles north-west). Bigger towns within reach include Sittingbourne (7 miles south), Whitstable (13 miles south-east), Faversham (10 miles south-east), Davington (10 miles south-east), Foley Park (15 miles south-west) and Preston (10 miles south-east).

Owners, agents and contractors

Hotels, schools, healthcare sites, offices and retail units book us directly too. The work is planned around how the building runs, so guests, pupils, patients or staff are disturbed as little as possible.

FMs need a contractor who is easy to get on site. Let us know the documents you need (RAMS, insurance certificate, CSCS details) and we will confirm them with the quote.

When to bring in a specialist

General builders and handymen seal joints, but it isn’t their main trade. A specialist prepares properly, controls joint depth and picks a product with the right movement class.

Redoing a failed joint typically costs more than getting it right at the outset, since all of it has to come out and the faces be cleaned back again. That’s why many clients bring in a specialist from the beginning.

How the job changes by surface

Semi-rigid joint fillers

For trafficked warehouse joints, semi-rigid fillers are common. They are installed to the depth the manufacturer specifies and finished flush.

Construction joints

Day joints on busy routes are prone to edge damage. We look at how much they are moving before choosing the treatment.
