Fire stopping in Kimbridge, done properly

A fire-rated sealant is only one part of a tested system: the evidence covers a specific product, wall or floor type, service, gap, depth and backing. We match each opening to that detail before any sealant goes in, and raise it with you if it falls outside. If you have expanding foam used as fire stopping and penetration schedules that need working through, we can put it right. Most enquiries from Kimbridge start with one failed joint and grow into a wider look at the building: we look at the rest while we’re there and tell you what we find.

A job near Kimbridge is usually planned around one visit, with the specification and photographs sent in advance. We install to the specification and the manufacturer’s guidance, leaving design and sign-off with the designer and building control.

Our 12-month guarantee is about workmanship, not wear and tear. Sealant wears with time, and movement, weather, cleaning and use decide how fast, so we spell out the cover before we begin.

Common questions from Kimbridge clients

Is Kimbridge too far out for you?

Not at all. Kimbridge is within our area. London and every South East county are within our area. Send photos and a list of what needs doing, and we’ll plan the job to need as few trips as possible.

Can you take on a job at a hospital such as Romsey Community Hospital?

Yes, hospitals are one of the sectors we cover. Work is phased so departments keep running, under the site’s own rules.

Is colour matching possible?

Often, yes. Sealants are made in a wide range of standard colours, and matching to RAL references or nearby finishes is commonly requested. We confirm what’s available for the specified product when we quote.

Do you have third-party installer accreditation for fire stopping?

No. We don’t hold a third-party fire-stopping installer certificate. We are CHAS accredited and a Constructionline member, and our applicators are CSCS-carded. Where a client or main contractor requires a scheme member, we’ll say so right away rather than waste your time.

Do you seal on top of existing sealant?

No. We cut the old material out and clean the joint back before sealing, because fresh silicone will not bond with aged silicone.

How many days will you need on site?

It depends on the scope, though a typical visit normally takes longer where risers, ceiling voids or occupied floors have to be worked through in sequence. Larger or phased jobs take longer, and we’ll give you a timescale with the quote.

Do you guarantee your work?

Yes, for 12 months. If a joint fails because of how we installed it, we come back and put it right.

Different surfaces, different methods

Plastic pipes

Plastic pipes soften and collapse in a fire. Some intumescent sealants are tested on smaller plastic pipes, but many need a collar or wrap. We check the pipe material and diameter against the detail before we start.

Masonry and concrete

Core-drilled holes are neat; broken-out ones rarely are. Each gap is measured where it is widest so we know it sits within the tested range.

Looking after the joints

A few simple habits keep the new joints working:

  • Put resealing into every M&E and fit-out package
  • Get seals inspected before ceilings and boxing close
  • Agree the fire-stopping specification before services go in
  • Treat an open penetration as a priority repair

New services after handover are a common way fire stopping gets breached. A short check at the end of each job saves a long hunt later.

Ask every contractor who works in risers or voids to report openings they create. Small habits like this stop openings building up.

What sets the cost

Each job is priced on its own details. The things that drive the figure:

  • The product specified
  • The total length or number of joints
  • Whether the work must be split into stages
  • Location, for remote and island sites

Access can matter as much as the joints themselves: joints within easy reach take less time than ones that need access equipment. Tell us how the joints are reached and call for a quote.

What to include in your enquiry

To price the job accurately, we need a clear picture of the site. Send us:

  • The type of building and who uses it
  • Specification clauses that apply
  • Drawings or a marked-up plan, if available
  • Asbestos survey details if the building is older

Every job follows the same four steps: send details, get a quote, we seal, guaranteed. The first step is to ring 01277 525 020 or email drawings and photos with what you know.

What happens if it’s left?

It is cheaper to seal service penetrations as each services package finishes than to come back for them later. While the area is still open, every opening is easy to see and reach, and the right detail can be checked at the time. One visit to deal with every failing joint makes more sense than several trips to a place like Kimbridge, rather than one at a time. Send photographs of each area and we will quote for the lot.

The work involved drives the cost: stripping out, preparation, sealing, access and phasing. Call for a fixed quote.

From enquiry to sign-off

The first thing on site is a walk round with your contact, to confirm the scope, the order of work and any areas we must keep clear. After that, any old or failed material is removed, each joint is prepared and the new sealant goes in. If others near Kimbridge need work, visits can be combined. You will have a fixed quote before work starts.

  1. First we confirm the product and tested details named in the specification.
  2. Openings are measured and grouped by detail.
  3. Improvised fillers and failed sealant are removed.
  4. Where the detail needs backing, it goes in at the stated depth.
  5. We gun the sealant in to the specified depth around each service and tool it.
  6. Completed areas are checked with you, with the records agreed when we quoted.

Preparing the site

  • Point out parking and an unloading spot
  • Confirm the product named in the specification
  • Clear stock, furniture or equipment away from the joints

Quotes

Specifications, drawings and tender packages are welcome with any enquiry, and we will price against exactly what is specified. For smaller jobs, photos and a description will do.

Advice

Compartments and services around Kimbridge

At about 70 miles from central London, Kimbridge is within reach of the capital. Office refits around the commuter belt bring new cabling through fire-resisting walls. For England, the fire stopping of penetrations is dealt with in Approved Document B. The national BS 476 classes are due to drop out of it from 2 September 2029, leaving the European BS EN 13501-2 route, subject to transitional arrangements. We install whatever has been specified, to the product’s tested detail.

On estates like Yokesford Hill Industrial Estate (2.1 miles south-east of Kimbridge), the wall between office and warehouse is often fire-resisting, and cables through it need the specified seal. In a school such as Awbridge Primary School, fire-rated sealant goes in around service penetrations where it is specified. Halls and meeting rooms at places like Church of St Andrew sometimes gain new services, and any compartment wall crossed needs the specified seal.
