About our expansion joint sealing in Stocker's Head
Our movement joint work takes in walls, panels, decks and floors: vertical joints in brick and block facades, joints between precast or cladding panels, concrete slab and deck joints, ramps, podiums and internal floors. The product depends on the movement, the weather and anything that runs over it and we name it in the quote. Most enquiries involve sealant pulling off the joint face and movement joints with split or torn sealant, on podiums and floor movement joints, precast concrete panel joints and cladding panel joints. One point of contact handles commercial sealant work in Stocker's Head from the first photographs to the final walk-round, for single jobs and planned programmes alike.
For a site near Stocker's Head, measurements and photographs up front mean one trip where possible. Note joint widths and the traffic that uses them, and we will take it from there.
Building owners and contractors get the same cover: twelve months on the work we carried out. Faults in the structure, damage and other trades’ work fall outside it, and we say so plainly.

When something else is needed
Honesty saves time and money. Fresh joints won’t solve:
- Broken or spalled joint edges, which need repairing before any sealant goes in
- Proprietary pre-formed expansion joint systems
- Failed waterproofing membranes on podiums, roofs or decks (a waterproofing specialist’s job)
Not sure which it is? You can call 01277 525 020 or email the details over and we will tell you honestly before you book.

What else we do in Stocker's Head
Surface by surface
Joints between different materials
Different materials meeting at a joint rarely move in step. We choose a sealant that grips both faces priming where the maker calls for it.
Cladding panel joints
We confirm what access is in place before pricing. Close-up photographs help us judge the joints, or we visit if they don’t show enough.
Questions we are asked in Stocker's Head
Which documents can you supply for work in Stocker's Head?
RAMS, insurance certificate, CSCS details: list what the site needs and we’ll confirm it with the quote. Our applicators are CSCS-carded, and we carry £5m public liability insurance.
Is Stocker's Head off your patch?
Not at all: smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and the South East counties. We plan jobs in smaller places so return trips are kept to a minimum.
Are expansion joints and movement joints the same thing?
Put simply, it’s a planned break in a wall, slab or deck so the materials can move. Expansion joint is a name often used for the same thing and both need a flexible seal.
Who decides which product is used?
A specification, where there is one, decides it. Without one, the joint decides: how much it moves, what it bonds to and whether it’s wet, trafficked or fire-rated.
Can a joint be sealed if the edges are broken?
Spalled edges need repairing before a new seal will last and we’ll flag every length affected. Sealing over them leads to early failure.
What timescale should we allow for resealing expansion joints?
Allow a day or so for a modest run of joints, and longer where decks, ramps or floors are done in phases. Timings are set out in the quote along with the phasing plan.
Will you just go over the old sealant?
No. We cut the old material out and clean the joint back before sealing, because fresh silicone will not bond with aged silicone.
Signs you need expansion joint sealing in Stocker's Head
Sometimes the sealant holds but the substrate breaks away. If the edge of the joint is friable, the bond fails with it.
Site and facilities staff are often the first to spot these:
- Previous reseals laid over old sealant
- Joints packed with grit and debris
- Joints where the bead has lost adhesion
- Chipped joint edges on forklift routes
Around Stocker's Head, each joint gets a filler or sealant matched to what crosses it and how much it moves.
Questions to ask before you book
- Health and safety accreditation such as CHAS
- The named product and why it was chosen
- Will failed sealant be removed rather than covered?

Floors, slabs and movement joints in Stocker's Head
Stocker's Head lies roughly 44 miles out from central London. The South East has large numbers of industrial estates and warehouses along the motorway corridors, and their floor joints take forklift and pallet-truck traffic all day. Stocker's Head is in the South East, one of the UK’s drier regions. Outside joints in yards and car parks still have to be dry before sealing, while winter salting gets into any joint left open.
In a school such as Charing Church of England Primary School, movement joints in brick, block and hall floors tend to be forgotten until they leak.

Diagnose, treat, sign off
Before any cutting starts, the area is protected: masking tape along the joint edges and sheeting over anything nearby. The work itself normally takes a day or so for a modest run of joints, and longer where decks, ramps or floors are done in phases, and we clear our waste as we work. If others near Stocker's Head need work, visits can be combined. A fixed quote is given before anything starts.
- First the joints are inspected, widths measured and the type of failure noted.
- You receive a fixed quote stating the product and the movement it is rated for.
- Phasing is agreed so decks, floors or entrances can stay in use where needed.
- The failed seal is cut out and both joint faces cleaned back to sound material.
- Depth is controlled with backing, the faces are primed where the maker calls for it, then the bead is laid and tooled.
- We check each joint with you, confirm the cure time and sign off under our 12-month guarantee.

Doing it in-house
There’s also the paperwork. Many sites expect CSCS cards, RAMS and proof of insurance, and our CSCS-carded applicators are used to working under those rules.
Some joints are best left to specialists: for instance fire-rated seals that must match a tested detail, trafficked floor joints and external movement joints. A poor seal in places like these tends to cost more to put right later.
Why deal with it now?
Some quotes just add sealant over the old bead. A bead over the old seal can’t bond or flex, so it fails quickly. Full removal and preparation is in every quote. Converted and older buildings near places like Stocker's Head tend to move, and aged sealant cracks. A sealant with the right movement capability, correctly sized, lasts far better.
Larger quantities, tricky access or phasing all shape the price. Site requirements like inductions and permits play a part as well, along with the time of year for external work.
