General trades versus a specialist
The visible bead is only part of the job. Correct depth, the right primer and a sealant matched to the movement are easy to get wrong without experience.
For most general trades, sealant is a sideline. A specialist brings correct preparation, depth control with backing rod and a product suited to that particular joint, which is what makes a joint last.
Construction mastic for commercial buildings in Fifield
Most of the packages we price run well beyond frames: frame perimeters inside and out, caulking to trims and boards where the specification calls for it, sanitary silicone, kitchens, and the final snag list. Splitting those between trades often leaves gaps in responsibility and gives you a consistent finish across the job. We work on cladding and panel joints, brick and block movement joints and window and door perimeters, and the failures we’re asked to look at most are different trades sealing to different standards and missed perimeter joints on a new elevation. Looking for mastic applicators who cover Fifield? We have been sealing commercial buildings since 2005, CHAS accredited and a Constructionline member.
Sites around smaller places like Fifield can be a fair drive from suppliers, so we come with everything the package needs. Send drawings or photographs and the programme and we’ll quote to suit.
Every job ends the same way: guaranteed. Our workmanship is backed for 12 months, and the quote explains what it covers.

Common questions from Fifield clients
Is a smaller place like Fifield outside your area?
Not at all. Fifield is within our area. We cover Greater London and the counties of the South East. Send photos and a list of what needs doing, and we will plan the job to need as few trips as possible.
Can you take on a job at a hospital such as Moore Cottage Hospital?
Yes, provided the work is planned with the site’s estates team. Work is phased so departments keep running, under the site’s own rules.
Do you have public liability insurance?
Yes. Mastic Doctor is fully insured, public liability included.
Can weather delay the job?
It can, when the joints are outside. Wet joints and cold, damp or frosty conditions stop the sealant bonding properly, so we watch the forecast and rearrange outside work if we have to. Internal work is far less affected.
How long does a typical visit take?
That varies with the scale of the job, but the work usually takes as long as the agreed sequence needs, which comes down to joint lengths, access and handover dates. For bigger or phased jobs, we will set out a timescale with the quote.
What do you charge?
That depends on the job: the volume of work, the access, the specified product and how it’s phased. Call for a quote.
Can you handle several sites?
Yes. A group of buildings can go on one quote, with one point of contact.
What sealant work can’t fix
Not every problem is a sealant problem, and we’d rather tell you before you spend money. These need a different solution:
- Rework caused by others damaging completed areas
- Approving fire stopping as compliant
- Specifying the product where the designer hasn’t
If in doubt, call the office on 01277 525 020 or email drawings and photos and we will say what we think.
Joints and surfaces we work on
- Brick and block movement joints
- Internal decorators’ caulk
- Sanitary and kitchen joints
- Window and door perimeters
- Cladding and panel joints
- Floor and skirting junctions
After the work
Regular inspection catches problems early. In particular:
- Bring the mastic contractor in after the last trades are through
- Brief the final clean team to avoid blades near sealant
- Stick to the specified sealant rather than a generic substitute
- Brief following trades on areas that have been sealed
After we have sealed an area, it helps to keep other trades from damaging the joints. Fresh sealant needs its cure time before it’s cleaned, painted near or knocked.
Oversized gaps are a problem better caught early. Filling a wide gap with sealant alone sets up a failure so packing or adjustment by the installer comes first. We raise them during our first walk of the area.
Construction mastic in Fifield: the local picture
The South East is one of the drier parts of the UK. Still, external mastic needs dry faces within the maker’s temperature limits, which isn’t every day, so we time external mastic for dry faces and agree it with the site team.
New wings at hospitals like Moore Cottage Hospital (4.6 miles west of Fifield) bring long runs of window and panel joints to seal. When units on a site such as Wychwood Business Centre, 2.2 miles to the east of Fifield, are refurbished or reclad, the panel joints and window perimeters are part of the mastic package.

What the job involves on each surface
Bathrooms, en suites and washrooms
Across a block of flats or a hotel, sanitary sealing is repeated in every room. One applicator team gives the same finish everywhere.
Internal decorators’ caulk
Caulk is easy to apply badly. A neat, consistent caulk line makes the decorators’ job quicker and reduces snags.
What affects the price in Fifield
A fixed quote reflects the actual work. It takes account of:
- Phasing around occupants
- How accessible the joints are
- Joint width, depth and condition
- Which sealant the job calls for
There’s no price list, because the scope varies so much from one building to the next. For a fixed figure, call for a quote.
Before you send an enquiry
It doesn’t need to be a full survey. A few details are enough to get going:
- The site address and postcode
- Clear photographs of the problem areas
- Approximate linear metres or a joint schedule
- Your programme or deadline
Tell us about the building, the joints and when you need the work done, and we will put a fixed quote together. To get it moving, call 01277 525 020 or email us.
How a job runs
We begin with a short walk round with whoever looks after the building, to confirm the scope, the order of work and any areas we must keep clear. Then we strip out anything that has failed, prepare every joint and seal it. For a building around Fifield, tell us how to find it and who will meet us. Add it to your enquiry and we will build it into the plan.
- First we look at the scope on site or from drawings.
- A fixed quote sets out scope, products and phasing.
- Site paperwork is confirmed and our CSCS-carded applicators are inducted.
- We seal plot by plot or floor by floor in line with the programme.
- Problems we find, such as oversized gaps, are raised right away.
- Final snagging is completed and the 12-month guarantee applies.
Preparing the site
- Have the specification and drawings to hand
- Tell us which areas need to stay in use
- Let building users know which areas are affected
Getting a fixed quote
Quotes are fixed against the scope you send, so you know the figure before anyone is on site. To start the process, call the office on 01277 525 020 or send details through our quote form.
