Construction mastic in Ellingham

The specification and the programme set the job rather than whatever product is to hand. Where the specification names a product, we use it. Backing, primer and depth follow what the sealant maker sets out, so the joints perform as the designer intended. If you have oversized or tapered gaps around new frames and cracks opening in caulked internal joints, we can put it right. Looking for mastic applicators who cover Ellingham? We have been sealing commercial buildings since 2005.

For a site near Ellingham, the mastic visit is planned so the right sealants, primers and backing rod are on hand. Drawings, photos and the programme let us give a fixed quote.

Work we carry out in Hampshire comes with a 12-month guarantee. Should something we installed fail, phone 01277 525 020 or use the quote form and we’ll come back to it.

Diagnose, treat, sign off

Working in a building that stays open takes some planning. We sign and contain the area we are in, keep walkways clear and work section by section so the rest of the building stays in use. For a building around Ellingham, tell us how to find it and who will meet us. Send that with the details and we’ll confirm the plan with the quote.

  1. First we take quantities off the drawings and read through the specification.
  2. You receive a fixed quote listing scope, products and phasing.
  3. Any site paperwork you need (RAMS, insurance certificate, CSCS details) is confirmed with the quote.
  4. We seal each plot or floor as it’s released to us.
  5. Every joint is prepared, set to depth and sealed with the specified product.
  6. We close out snagging and hand over with a 12-month guarantee.

Preparing the site

When it isn’t the sealant

Being straight saves everyone time. New sealant won’t cure:

  • Joint design decisions that belong to the architect or engineer
  • Oversized gaps that need packing or adjustment by others
  • Damage to finishes by other trades after we’ve sealed

If in doubt, speak to us on 01277 525 020 or email a schedule or drawings and we’ll say what we think before you book.

What we seal

  • Window and door perimeters
  • Brick and block movement joints
  • Sanitary and kitchen joints
  • Cladding and panel joints
  • Floor and skirting junctions
  • Internal decorators’ caulk

Different surfaces, different methods

External facade and movement joints

Movement joints in the facade are sealed with a product suited to the expected movement. Depth is controlled with backing rod so the bead bonds to two sides only.

Internal decorators’ caulk

Caulk is easy to apply badly. A neat, consistent caulk line makes the decorators’ job quicker and reduces snags.

Mastic packages on Ellingham sites

Ellingham sits in one of the drier corners of the country, the South East. Winter mornings still bring frost and condensation on frames and panels, so we time external mastic for dry faces and agree it with the site team.

For contractors at a college like Sheiling College (2.3 miles south of Ellingham), perimeters and internal sealant are timed for the holidays. For a contractor working at a hospital such as St Leonard's Hospital (4.6 miles south-west of Ellingham), perimeter and facade sealing is planned around patients and deliveries.

Ellingham is in Hampshire. Our applicators travel to Ellingham for work on mastic packages, handled exactly as we handle every other area. Across Hampshire, 723 places are covered, including Ellingham. For work in that direction, see our Southampton page (18 miles or so).

Questions about Ellingham

Can you work around term dates at a campus such as Sheiling College?

Yes, holiday working periods are the norm on campus jobs. Tell us which site documents you need, such as RAMS, our insurance certificate or CSCS details, and they’re confirmed with the quote.

Do you cover business parks and estates near Ellingham, such as Headlands Business Park?

Yes. We cover Ellingham and the area around it, including industrial estates, business parks and retail parks such as Headlands Business Park. A few photos and the unit address let us price the work.

Can you send site paperwork?

Requirements differ from site to site, so list what you need, whether RAMS, insurance or CSCS details, and we will confirm with the quote.

Do your applicators hold CSCS cards?

We’re CHAS accredited and a Constructionline member, with CSCS-carded applicators. We’re also fully insured, with five million pounds of public liability cover.

Do you use the sealant named in the specification?

We work to the specification and the manufacturer’s installation guidance. Primers, backing and joint depth follow what the manufacturer sets out.

Does weather affect external mastic work?

Weather matters for external sealing: each sealant has a temperature range, and the joint must be dry. External work is sequenced with some flexibility.

Can staff carry on working while you’re here?

Normally, yes. Phased work can be planned so areas stay in use, with each area protected and signed.

Do you need construction mastic in Ellingham?

On a live site, contamination is the biggest threat to a new joint. Plaster dust, release agents, protective film residue and damp all stop sealant bonding, so preparation matters as much here as on a reseal.

Site and facilities staff are often the first to spot these:

  • Frame gaps too wide for sealant alone
  • A long mastic snag list close to completion
  • External joints sealed in damp or cold conditions that are now failing
  • Bath and shower joints scraped during the final clean

When units on a site such as Headlands Business Park (1 mile south-east of Ellingham) are refurbished or reclad, the panel joints and window perimeters are part of the mastic package.

What your quote should include

  • How joint depth will be controlled
  • Their public liability cover
  • Whether primer will be used where the manufacturer specifies it
  • Are they CHAS accredited or on Constructionline?

Questions to ask before you appoint anyone

How the quote is worked out

The price varies from site to site. It mainly depends on:

  • The product specified
  • Distance, for remote addresses
  • Working within restricted access windows
  • Backing rod, priming and other preparation

Cost follows what’s involved: stripping out, preparation, sealing, access and phasing. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll explain how it’s made up.

What we need to price the job

Diagnosis starts before we arrive. Let us know:

  • Whether an asbestos survey exists
  • Any specification or named product
  • Access details, including height
  • Where the site is, with the postcode

Send details, get a quote, we seal, guaranteed: that’s how every job runs. The first step is to speak to us on 01277 525 020 or email a schedule or drawings with what you know.

After the work

Every sealant joint needs some looking after, and their life depends on movement, exposure, cleaning and use. Our advice:

  • Share drawings and the specification as soon as possible
  • Release areas for mastic once other trades have finished in them
  • Keep scrapers and abrasive pads off new beads
  • Use the product the specification names

Once an area is sealed, protect it from following trades. Fresh sealant needs its cure time before it’s cleaned, painted near or knocked; we confirm the time for each product.

Snag items left to the last week put handover at risk. Clearing snags area by area spreads the work out and keeps handover on track.
