Questions about Climpy

Is Climpy too small for you to travel to?

Not at all. Climpy is within our area. Every Scottish council area is within our area. Send photographs and a list of what needs doing, and we will plan the job to need as few trips as possible.

Do you take on work at healthcare sites like Law Hospital?

Yes, provided the work is planned with the site’s estates team. The estates team’s permit system and infection-control rules come first, and the work is planned around them.

What accreditations do you hold?

We are CHAS accredited and a Constructionline member, and our applicators hold CSCS cards. Public liability insurance is in place.

Is the mastic package guaranteed?

The work is guaranteed for 12 months, covering how we sealed. Protecting sealed areas from following trades helps avoid damage.

Can you work to our specification?

The specified product is what goes in. If we think an alternative would suit better, we put it to you first.

What hours do you work?

The office is staffed Monday to Friday, from 8am until 5pm. Tell us your site hours and access windows and the work will be fitted around them.

How long does a job like this take?

The duration is planned around your programme and the access we’re given. You will have an expected duration with the quote.

About our construction mastic in Climpy

The programme rarely stands still, so the mastic package has to flex with it. The sequence is set with the site team and updated as plots or floors are handed over, so applicators arrive when areas are genuinely ready. Sealing too early only means coming back once others have damaged it. Site teams most often ask us about sealant knocked or painted over by other trades and different trades sealing to different standards, on floor and skirting junctions, internal decorators’ caulk and window and door perimeters. A single leaking joint is often how a building in Climpy first comes to us: we check the joints around it and give you an honest view of what needs doing now and what can wait.

Sites near smaller places like Climpy can mean longer travel, so the mastic is planned with as few trips as the job allows. Send drawings, photographs and the programme so everything needed arrives on the first day.

Our 12-month guarantee is about workmanship, not wear and tear. Sealant wears with time, and movement, weather, cleaning and use decide how fast, so we spell out the cover before we begin.

Our process

Diagnose, treat, sign off: that’s the shape of every visit. First comes an inspection and agreement on scope, then the work is carried out to the specified product and detail, and we finish with a walk round so the work can be signed off. Where we can, we combine work around Climpy with other jobs nearby, to make the most of each trip. Let us know if your dates have any give.

  1. We start with the drawings, specification and programme.
  2. We take off quantities and return a fixed quote.
  3. The sequence is agreed with the site manager.
  4. Each area is sealed when it’s released.
  5. Every joint is cleaned, set to depth and sealed with the specified product.
  6. After snagging, the work is handed over under our 12-month guarantee.

Before we start on site

  • Confirm the product named in the specification
  • Tell us which areas need to stay in use
  • Flag any permit to work we’ll need

Advice

General trades versus a specialist

For most general trades, sealant is a sideline. A specialist brings correct preparation, depth control with backing rod and a product suited to that particular joint, which is what makes a joint last.

What you see is the finished bead, but most of the work is hidden. Backing rod, primer where specified and a joint designed to move with the building are easy to get wrong without experience.

Why deal with it now?

When a package runs over budget, downgrading the product is a common first thought. The saving is small next to the cost of callbacks and defects and external joints are where it shows first. Where an alternative is genuinely suitable, we’ll say so. Around smaller places like Climpy, halls, stores and seasonal buildings may not be checked often, giving water time to get in. Early resealing prevents it.

No two sites price the same: joint size, product, access and site hours all play a part. Send the details and a fixed figure follows.

Why clients in Climpy choose us

  • Old sealant cut out, never sealed over
  • Matching to RAL references, product permitting
  • Coloured sealants to suit the setting, where available
  • Colours confirmed for the specified product

See our cost guide and our accreditations.

When something else is needed

Our job is the joint, not everything around it. Sealant alone won’t deal with:

  • Joints damaged after sign-off by following trades
  • Frame gaps too wide for sealant, which the installer needs to correct
  • Fire-stopping design or sign-off (that’s for the designer, fire engineer and building control)

If you are not sure, just call the office on 01277 525 020 or send photos by email and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

Contractors’ notes for Climpy

Projects in Climpy follow Scotland’s building regulations, with the local authority acting as verifier. Our job is to seal to that specification. Climpy is in the east of Scotland, which is drier than the west. Frost and condensation on frames and panels can still hold up external mastic on winter mornings. External mastic is planned with the site manager for workable conditions.

New wings at hospitals like Law Hospital, 6 miles to the west of Climpy, bring long runs of window and panel joints to seal. For contractors building in or near Climpy, we seal to the drawings, the specification and the programme.

Fire-rated sealant where specified

Not every penetration suits a sealant. Collars, wraps, batts and boards are specified for other services so we will flag where the detail needs something different. Tell us what records you need and we will confirm with the quote.

Window and door perimeters

A frame gap that’s too wide can’t just be filled with sealant. We check them during the first walk-round and flag any that need packing or adjusting.

Looking after the joints

Regular inspection catches problems early. In particular:

  • Bring the mastic contractor in after the last trades are through
  • Note which sealant went where at handover
  • Keep finished joints away from paint, plaster and scrapers
  • Ask cleaners to use soft cloths around fresh sealant

Once an area is sealed, protect it from following trades. New beads should be left to cure before cleaning or decorating nearby.

External joints sealed in poor weather are a common cause of early failure. Waiting for a dry joint and the right temperature is better than redoing work.
