How we handle coloured sealant in Tannochside

We can agree a short trial length before the full run. Sealant can look slightly different once it has cured, and again in different light, so approving a sample on site is worth doing. Tell us who needs to approve the colour and we will plan for it. We work on cladding panels, office fit-out finishes and natural stone and brick, and what we’re called in for most is shop fits that need consistent sealant colours across sites and a run of joints in mismatched shades. Most enquiries from Tannochside start with one failed joint and grow into a wider look at the building: we check the joints around it and give you an honest view of what needs doing now and what can wait.

Travel to smaller places such as Tannochside is planned so the whole job is finished in one visit where possible, so it helps to have photographs and a full list first. If neighbouring businesses have work too, the visits can be grouped.

Our 12-month guarantee is about workmanship, not wear and tear. How long a sealant joint lasts depends on movement, exposure, cleaning and use, so we spell out the cover before we begin.

Aftercare for building managers

Regular inspection catches problems early. In particular:

  • Keep harsh solvents away from visible joints
  • Settle the colour with the designer at the start
  • Look at the cured colour before the full run
  • Keep the colour details for future repairs

Keep a record of the product and colour reference used. Future repairs can then use the same colour, with no guesswork.

Make sure every contractor knows which sealant and colour are on the building file. That keeps new work in line with what’s there.

Hotel interiors

Phased resealing lets rooms go back into use quickly. We plan around your occupancy.

Brick and masonry

Vertical movement joints run the full height of many brick walls. The right colour keeps them discreet.

Doing it in-house

Paperwork matters too. Many sites expect CSCS cards, RAMS and proof of insurance, and we will confirm the paperwork you need with the quote.

General builders and handymen seal joints, but it isn’t their main trade. A specialist brings correct preparation, depth control with backing rod and a product suited to that particular joint.

Questions we’re asked in Tannochside

Will our hotel in Tannochside need to close for the work?

Rarely, if ever. We take a few rooms out at a time. The plan is built around your bookings.

Is Tannochside too small for you to travel to?

No. Small places get the same service as large ones. We cover the whole of Scotland. We plan jobs in smaller places so return trips are kept to a minimum.

How do I request a quote?

There are four steps: send details, get a quote, we seal, guaranteed. The first step only needs photographs and a postcode.

Are you insured?

Yes. Mastic Doctor is fully insured, public liability included.

Will your applicators have CSCS cards?

Yes. If you need card details for site access, let us know and we’ll send them with the quote.

Will sunlight affect the sealant colour?

Some change over time is normal. Exposure, product and colour all play a part.

How many days will you need on site?

The duration is planned around your programme and the access we’re given. We will give you an estimate of time on site when we quote.

When something else is needed

Our job is the joint, not everything around it. Sealant alone won’t deal with:

  • Overpainting a joint that needs a non-paintable product
  • Stopping sealant from ever changing colour outdoors
  • Custom-mixed sealant colours

If in doubt, phone 01277 525 020 or email us and we will say what we think before you book.

What we seal

  • Powder-coated and anodised frames
  • Office fit-out finishes
  • Hotel bathrooms and public areas
  • Natural stone and brick
  • Shop-fit joinery and counters
  • Cladding panels

Our process

Before we leave any area, we remove the tape, clean down and inspect every joint, ready for your sign-off. If an area should be left alone while the sealant cures, we say how long and put signs out. Travel to smaller Scottish places like Tannochside is planned so the job is finished in one visit where possible, so photographs, sizes and a full list matter. External joints need a dry spell as well.

  1. The sealant type is chosen for the joint first, then the colour.
  2. We compare your RAL reference or sample with the colours made for that sealant.
  3. Where colour is critical, a sample bead can be agreed in a discreet spot.
  4. We take out the existing bead, clean the joints and fit backing.
  5. We apply the agreed colour and tool it neatly, with masking where the finish needs it.

Cost factors for colour-matched joints

Sealant work doesn’t have a standard rate, because every site is different. What we take into account:

  • Working within restricted access windows
  • How accessible the joints are
  • Location, for remote and island sites
  • Site requirements such as inductions and permits

Cost follows what’s involved: removing old material, preparing the joints, the product, the access and how the work is phased. Call for a fixed quote.

What to include in your enquiry

For an accurate fixed quote, we need a clear picture of the site. Send us:

  • Asbestos survey details if the building is older
  • Clear photographs of the problem areas
  • Access details, including height
  • Drawings or a marked-up plan, if available

Tell us about the building, the joints and when you need the work done, and we’ll put a fixed quote together. To get it moving, call 01277 525 020 or send details through our quote form.
