Coloured sealant for Bridge sites

What Bridge’s businesses ask us to seal

Rainfall across the South East, Bridge included, is lower than in many parts of the UK. That helps, but frost and condensation on glass and coated frames still stop outside sealing on some winter mornings. At about 55 miles from central London, Bridge is within reach of the capital. The commuter belt holds a great many offices, retail parks and business parks. If you have premises across the region, one contractor can cover them all.

For a shop at a centre such as Whitefriars Shopping Centre, 2.9 miles north-west of Bridge, tidy joints at counters and displays matter as much as the fixtures. Offices and shops close to stations such as Bekesbourne station, 1.2 miles to the north-east of Bridge, tend to be busy all day, so sealant work is planned around opening hours.

Bridge is about 3 miles south-east of Canterbury, in Kent. We send applicators to Bridge for colour-matched joints. 931 places across Kent fall within our area, including Bridge. London is covered too, some 55 miles away.

Commercial sites across CT4 are covered for colour-matched joints. We cover commercial and managed buildings on High Street, Station Road and Western Avenue. Just outside Bridge, we also work in Patrixbourne (1 mile north-east), Bishopsbourne (1 mile south), Bekesbourne Hill (1 mile north-east), Bekesbourne (1 mile north-east) and Kingston (2 miles south-east). Bigger towns within reach include Ashford (13 miles south-west), Canterbury (3 miles north-west), Margate (15 miles north-east), Dover (11 miles south-east), Folkestone (11 miles south) and Ramsgate (14 miles north-east).

Near you in Bridge

In Bridge, that means premises near The Bridge Arms and St. Anselm's Catholic School, among other places. The closest station to Bridge is Bekesbourne station, about 1.2 miles north-east of the centre. Other landmarks nearby include Canterbury Roman Museum (2.9 miles north-west) and Kent and Canterbury Hospital (2.1 miles north-west). For a walk, there’s Blean Woods RSPB Reserve.

Coloured sealant in Bridge, done properly

We can agree a short trial length before the full run. Cured sealant may look a shade different from the wet bead, and lighting changes it again. Let us know who signs off colour, and we will fit the sample into the programme. If you are dealing with colour changes after a rebrand or refit and poorly tooled joints on visible finishes, we can put it right, whatever the surface. Whoever orders the work in Bridge, the brief is usually the same: a fixed quote, no surprises on site and a 12-month guarantee behind the result.

Work in smaller places such as Bridge tends to come one building at a time: a pub kitchen, a hall, a small office. We plan the visit so everything on the list is done in one go, with the right products and colours on hand.

Work we carry out in Kent comes with a 12-month guarantee. Should something we installed fail, phone 01277 525 020 or email a schedule or drawings and we will come back to it.

When to bring in a specialist

For most general trades, sealant is a sideline. A specialist prepares properly, controls joint depth and picks a product with the right movement class, which is what makes a joint last.

There’s also the paperwork. Many sites expect CSCS cards, RAMS and proof of insurance, and our CSCS-carded applicators are used to working under those rules.

When to call us in Bridge

When frames are recoated or a space is rebranded, the old joints may no longer suit. Refurbishments and rebrands often bring a new colour scheme that the sealant has to follow.

Look out for the following:

  • Stained or mouldy coloured joints in washrooms
  • A run of joints in mismatched shades
  • Discoloured joints on a visible elevation
  • Joints that need to match a new RAL frame colour

Offices at parks like Canterbury Business Park, 1 mile to the south-east of Bridge, have receptions, kitchens and glazed partitions where a tidy joint matters.

What your quote should include

  • Whether their applicators hold CSCS cards
  • Do they follow the manufacturer’s priming guidance?
  • Is the sealant right for the movement and the substrate?
  • Their plan for phasing and protecting the area

Questions to ask before you appoint anyone

Questions we are asked in Bridge

Do you offer colour-matched sealant for buildings in Bridge?

Yes, sealants come in a wide range of standard colours, and matching to RAL references, cladding, stone or frames is a common request. Send colour references or photos and we will confirm what’s available for the product.

Is Bridge off your patch?

No. Places such as Bridge are covered as much as the big towns. We work across Greater London and the South East. Good photographs up front let us bring everything on the first visit.

Does weather matter for sealant work?

For external joints, yes. Sealant needs a dry joint and a temperature within the product’s range, so frost, rain or cold mornings can delay outside work. Inside work is seldom held up.

What site paperwork can you supply?

Each site asks for different documents, so tell us what you need and we’ll confirm it when we quote.

What happens if old sealant might contain asbestos?

Asbestos is possible in some older mastics, particularly in buildings from before 2000. We check the asbestos register before cutting out old sealant in an older building, and work stops until any suspect material has been tested. We don’t remove asbestos-containing materials.

Can you work while the building is occupied?

In most cases, yes. Phased work can be planned so areas stay in use.

Will you come and look before quoting?

Photos, drawings or a schedule are often enough to quote. Where they aren’t, we arrange a site visit before quoting.

How the job changes by surface

Natural stone

Sandstone, limestone and granite each have distinct tones. Colour is agreed on site where possible before the full run.

Hotel interiors

Hotels use colour-matched sealant in bathrooms, bedrooms and public areas. Wet-area sealants come in colours other than white too, so bathrooms can match the tiling or stone.

Work for main contractors and building owners

Whether you’re a managing agent, a property factor or an owner’s representative: send details, get a fixed quote, we seal, guaranteed. Keys, access and contacts can be agreed in advance.

When you manage a building on behalf of an owner, clear figures and clear communication matter. We quote a fixed sum, confirm the scope and walk the finished work with you or your representative.

What we can’t put right

We seal joints; we don’t mend everything behind them. On its own, sealant can’t deal with:

  • Repairing damaged frames or cladding
  • Stopping sealant from ever changing colour outdoors
  • Paint over sealant on joints that move too much

Not sure which it is? You can call the office on 01277 525 020 or email us and we will tell you honestly.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Natural stone and brick
  • Shop-fit joinery and counters
  • Hotel bathrooms and public areas
  • Office fit-out finishes
  • Cladding panels
  • Powder-coated and anodised frames

On site: what to expect

On arrival, we report to your site contact and complete whatever induction the building runs. Everything around the joints gets protected before anything is cut or cleaned, and the work usually takes about the same time as any other sealant work, plus a little longer if a sample bead is agreed first. If others near Bridge need work, visits can be combined, which keeps travel down. A fixed quote is given before anything starts.

  1. First we agree which sealant type the joint needs.
  2. We compare the target colour with the colours available.
  3. The nearest colour is agreed, with a sample bead where needed.
  4. The existing bead comes out, then faces are cleaned and backed.
  5. We mask, seal and tool to a clean line.
  6. We remove the masking and walk the finished joints with you.

Preparing the site

  • Have the specification and drawings to hand
  • Send asbestos survey details if the building is pre-2000
  • Explain the parking and delivery arrangements
