Sealant in a healthcare setting
Hospitals, clinics and care homes depend on joints that stay sealed and easy to clean. Sanitary joints around basins, showers, assisted bathrooms and sluice rooms are cleaned hard and often, and a split or mouldy bead becomes somewhere for dirt and moisture to sit. Elsewhere, perimeter joints keep weather out of occupied wards, and fire-resisting walls and floors protect people who may not be able to move quickly.
We carry out washroom and wet-area sealing, window perimeter sealing and fire-rated sealing in healthcare buildings for trusts, private providers, care home operators and their facilities contractors.
Typical areas and joints
- En-suite showers, trays and wet room floors
- Assisted bathrooms and accessible toilets
- Hand-wash basins and vanity units
- Staff changing rooms, kitchens and tea points
- Window perimeters on occupied wards and residents’ rooms
- Service penetrations in compartment walls and floors, where fire-rated sealant is specified
Infection control, permits and phasing
Work in healthcare buildings follows the site’s rules. NHS estates guidance sits in Health Building Notes and Health Technical Memoranda, and each trust or provider sets its own requirements on top. We work within your trust’s estates and infection-control requirements and your permit-to-work system, and agree with your team how each area is isolated, cleaned down and handed back.
Phased work can be planned so wards, bathrooms and residents’ rooms stay in use, taking one room or one bay at a time. Tell us your site hours and access windows and we’ll plan around them. Our healthcare sealing guide goes into planning in more detail.
Care homes
In a care home, residents’ routines matter as much as the programme. Bathrooms and en-suites can be sealed one at a time, each going back into use once the product is ready, with messier stages kept clear of mealtimes and quiet periods where the home asks. Managers often want to know exactly who will be on site; let us know what details you need and they’ll come with the quote.
Fire-rated sealing
Healthcare buildings have a great many services crossing fire-resisting construction, and new cabling or pipework after alterations is a common cause of breaches. Where fire-rated sealant is the specified product, we install it to the product’s tested detail. We don’t design fire stopping or sign it off; that sits with your fire engineer, designer or building control. Fire stopping explained covers the background.
Paperwork before the permit
Healthcare jobs usually start with more paperwork than most. Your estates team may want method statements, risk assessments, insurance details and the names of the applicators before a permit is issued. Tell us what site paperwork you need (RAMS, insurance certificate, CSCS details) and we’ll confirm with the quote. We are CHAS accredited and a Constructionline member, and our applicators hold CSCS cards. From there the job follows our usual route: details and photos or a site visit, a fixed quote, the work in agreed phases, and a 12-month guarantee on our workmanship.

Healthcare & care homes: common questions
Can you work within our infection-control procedures?
Yes. Tell us your estates and infection-control requirements and permit system when you send details, and we’ll plan the work within them.
Can wards and rooms stay open?
Usually. Phased work can be planned so areas stay in use, one room or bay at a time.
Which sealant do you use in clinical washrooms?
Sanitary silicone with anti-mould additives in wet areas, or a hygienic sealant where the specification calls for one.
Do you work in older healthcare buildings?
Yes. Before disturbing old sealant we ask for the asbestos register or survey, and work on any suspect joint stops until it is tested.
Do you design fire stopping for healthcare buildings?
No. We install fire-rated sealant where it is specified, to the product’s tested detail. Design and sign-off sit with your fire engineer, designer or building control.
