Facade sealing in Wincheap, done properly
Managing agents and owners in Wincheap ask us to, we reseal perimeters across whole elevations or a handful of problem windows. Either way, the method is the same: old sealant out, faces cleaned, depth set and a new bead tooled in. A 12-month guarantee applies to our workmanship. If you are dealing with leaks at window and door perimeters and sealant pulling away from frames or panels, we can put it right, on window and door perimeters, coping and flashing joints and perimeter joints where frames meet the structure alike. A specialist sealant contractor works differently from a general builder: in Wincheap, that means joint design, primers and backing rod as standard.
Conversions around smaller places like Wincheap often join new frames to old masonry or timber, and the sealant at those junctions has to cope with two materials that move differently, in a colour the planners or architect are happy with.
The 12-month guarantee covers our workmanship: the preparation, the sealing and the tooling. It doesn’t extend to damage, other trades’ later work or movement the joint was never designed to take.

Different surfaces, different methods
Perimeter joints at frames and structure
The joint around a framed system, where it meets the structure, needs sealant. We seal those perimeter joints, not the framing or glazing itself.
Brick and stone facades
On masonry, the sealant has to suit a porous, textured surface. We avoid acetoxy silicone, which can stain some natural stone, and primers go on where specified.

Hospitality, education, healthcare, office and retail clients come to us directly as well. We plan around the way the building is used, so guests, pupils, patients or staff are disturbed as little as possible.
CHAS accredited and a Constructionline member, we’re straightforward to vet for your supplier list. We are fully insured, and our insurance certificate can go with the quote.
How a job runs
Occupied buildings need a little choreography. We sign and contain the area we’re in, with routes through the building left open and work section by section so the rest of the building stays in use. Work in places the size of Wincheap is planned as a single visit where we can. Clear photos and measurements help us bring the right products.
- Access, site rules and timing are settled with the client up front.
- We only seal when joints are dry and within the product’s temperature range.
- Each joint is cut out and the edges inspected.
- Joints are cleaned, primed if required and fitted with backing rod.
- Facade-grade sealant goes in and is tooled to a tidy concave profile.
- Once signed off, the work carries our 12-month guarantee.

Advice
Looking after the joints
Sealant joints are maintenance items, and their life depends on movement, exposure, cleaning and use. Our advice:
- Combine resealing with other works that need access
- Record the product and colour used on each elevation
- Keep pressure washers away from fresh sealant
- Confirm the survey covers external sealants in older buildings
Following storms, look inside for damp or staining near frames. An early report usually means a small reseal rather than a bigger repair.
Deal with sections that fail early as soon as they show. A few metres resealed promptly can stop water damage spreading inside the building.
What sealant work can’t fix
Honesty saves time and money. New sealant won’t cure:
- Movement beyond what any sealant can handle
- Water getting in through cracked render or porous masonry
- Installing or repairing glazing systems
Not sure which it is? You can call the office on 01277 525 020 or email the details over and we will tell you honestly.

Common questions from Wincheap clients
Is Wincheap too small for you to travel to?
No. Places such as Wincheap are covered as much as the big towns. London and every South East county are within our area. Good photos up front let us bring everything on the first visit.
Is hospital work, at somewhere like Kent and Canterbury Hospital, something you do?
Yes. Healthcare sites are among the places we work. Work is phased so departments keep running, under the site’s own rules.
Do you seal on top of existing sealant?
No. Sealing over old material is one of the classic causes of early joint failure, so it all comes out first.
When can you be on site?
Mention the site’s hours and access windows in your enquiry, and we’ll plan around them. Our office runs Monday to Friday, 8am until 5pm.
Do you seal facades in winter?
Wet joints or temperatures outside the product’s range mean waiting. The programme allows for it and we tell you if the forecast changes things.
How do I request a quote?
You can use the quote form on this site; alternatively, ring 01277 525 020 or email a schedule or drawings. Photos, drawings or a joint schedule help us quote quickly.
Is your workmanship covered by a guarantee?
Yes. The 12-month guarantee covers our preparation and application, but not damage, misuse or other trades’ work.
Facade sealing around Wincheap: points for this area
Wincheap sits in one of the drier corners of the country, the South East. That doesn’t stop wet spells, or frosty starts that leave panels too damp to seal, so the external programme keeps a little slack. Plenty of hotels sit less than 2 miles from Wincheap. Hotel schemes tend to have fixed reopening dates, so the mastic is programmed tightly with the other trades.
Hotel extensions and refits, at places such as Thanington Hotel, which lies south-west of Wincheap, normally run between busy periods, so the sealing is squeezed into short windows. For contractors at a college like Canterbury College, 0.9 miles to the east of Wincheap, perimeters and internal sealant are timed for the holidays.
Wincheap is about 1 mile south-west of Canterbury, in Kent. We cover commercial sites throughout Wincheap, whether it’s a single job or part of a planned programme. 931 places across Kent fall within our area, including Wincheap. Our London page has more on work in that area.
We take on facade joints across the CT1 and CT2 postcode area, for business premises of every kind. Streets here include Ada Road, Cow Lane and Back Lane. Wincheap sits on or close to the A2, useful when we plan access and materials. Sites close to Wincheap are covered too, including Canterbury (1 mile north-east), Thanington (1 mile south-west), Harbledown (1 mile north-west), Stuppington (1 mile south) and Hales Place (2 miles north). A short drive away, we cover Ashford (13 miles south-west), Margate (15 miles north-east), Dover (14 miles south-east), Sittingbourne (15 miles west), Folkestone (14 miles south) and Ramsgate (15 miles east).
Around Wincheap
Around Wincheap, our work takes us to commercial buildings near Canterbury School of Architecture, St Thomas of Canterbury Church and Duke's Head Public House, among other places. Nearby too are The Canterbury Academy (0.5 miles north-west) and Whitehall Meadows (under half a mile north-west). Wincheap has its own railway station: Canterbury East station. Other landmarks nearby include Canterbury Castle (under half a mile north-east) and Rupert Bear Museum (under half a mile north-east). Not far away are Blean Woods RSPB Reserve.
Do you need facade sealing in Wincheap?
A frequent fault is a bead stuck to the joint’s rear face as well as its sides. With no backing, the sealant is restrained and tears as the joint moves.
If one of these sounds familiar, it’s time for a closer look:
- Discoloured or dirty facade joints
- Weathered joints at frame-to-structure perimeters
- Perimeter sealant that has split or peeled away
- Old perimeter mastic that has dried out
Extensions at sites like Kent and Canterbury Hospital (0.9 miles south-east of Wincheap) usually sit beside working departments, and the mastic follows strict access rules.
