Expansion joint sealing across Gushmere

Send drawings, photos or a joint schedule, or tell us about the site, and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

Doing it in-house

What you see is the finished bead, but most of the work is hidden. Backing rod, primer where specified and a joint designed to move with the building are where general trades tend to cut corners.

Paperwork matters too. Many sites expect CSCS cards, RAMS and proof of insurance, and we’ll confirm the paperwork you need with the quote.

Expansion joint sealing in Gushmere, done properly

Mastic Doctor has sealed movement joints since 2005, for main contractors, FMs, managing agents and building owners. CHAS accredited, Constructionline member, CSCS-carded applicators and five million pounds of public liability insurance. Workmanship is backed by our 12-month guarantee. If you have damp inside where a wall movement joint has failed and expansion joints split through the centre of the bead, we can put it right. Most enquiries from Gushmere start with one failed joint and grow into a wider look at the building: we look at the rest while we are there and tell you what we find.

Smaller community and commercial buildings around Gushmere have their own movement joints in walls and floors. They’re easily forgotten until water gets in or an edge breaks.

Our workmanship is guaranteed for 12 months. If a joint we sealed fails because of how it was installed, we come back and put it right.

Brickwork and blockwork joints

Vertical movement joints in brick and block walls let the masonry grow and shrink. We use a sealant rated for the movement, usually low-modulus laid over backing rod at the correct depth.

Podium joints

On podiums, the joint can belong to a larger waterproofing detail. We reseal the joint where sealant is the specified fix, and tell you if the problem looks like the waterproofing below.

Slabs, ramps and loading bays in Gushmere

The South East is one of the drier parts of the UK. Even so, yard and car park joints are only sealed when they’re dry and clean, and gritting in cold spells finds its way into open joints. Gushmere lies roughly 47 miles out from central London. Distribution warehouses and industrial estates are common around the motorway corridors that serve the capital, and their floor joints take forklift and pallet-truck traffic all day.

For floors and slabs around Gushmere, the product is chosen for the traffic and the movement at each joint.

Gushmere is about 3 miles south-east of Faversham, in Kent. We send applicators to Gushmere for movement joints, handled exactly as we handle every other area. Gushmere is one of 931 places we cover in Kent. There’s a separate page for London, roughly 47 miles from Gushmere.

Gushmere: questions and answers

Is Gushmere too small for you to travel to?

Not at all: smaller places are covered as well as towns. London and every South East county are within our area. Where we can, we group nearby jobs to make the most of each trip.

Do we have to stop operations in Gushmere while the joints are sealed?

In the majority of cases the site keeps working. Joints are done in phases, a bay, aisle or deck at a time. Tell us which hours and entrances we can use and we’ll plan from there.

How do I request a quote?

There are four steps: send details, receive a fixed quote, we carry out the work, and it’s guaranteed. The first step only needs photographs and a postcode.

How much does the work cost?

Every job gets its own fixed quote. For yours, phone 01277 525 020 or email the details over with a description of the work.

Do you work to architects’ specifications?

Yes. Send it with your enquiry, and we’ll price the work to it, flagging anything that needs clarifying.

Does weather matter for sealant work?

It can, for external work. Wet joints and cold, damp or frosty conditions stop the sealant bonding properly, so we watch the forecast and rearrange outside work if we have to. Indoors, the weather is rarely a problem.

Do you take on multi-site work?

Yes. Several buildings can share a single quote, and you deal with one contact throughout.

When to call us in Gushmere

On trafficked joints, wheels and salts do the damage. Wheel loads stress the sealant and the arrises. The product has to be suited to the traffic.

If one of these sounds familiar, it’s time for a closer look:

  • Joints where the bead has lost adhesion
  • Water dripping through deck or ramp joints
  • Arrises breaking up along floor joints
  • Hardened, cracked sealant on exposed facades

In a school such as Selling Church of England Primary School, movement joints in brick, block and hall floors tend to be forgotten until they leak.

What your quote should include

  • Whether primer will be used where the manufacturer specifies it
  • What site paperwork they can supply
  • Is the sealant right for the movement and the substrate?
  • Is depth set with backing rod, or bond-breaker tape in shallow joints?

Questions to ask before you appoint anyone

Honest limits

We seal joints; we don’t mend everything behind them. On its own, sealant can’t deal with:

  • Failed waterproofing membranes on podiums, roofs or decks (a waterproofing specialist’s job)
  • Crumbling edges that would give a new bead nothing sound to grip
  • Joints too narrow for the movement, which need redesigning by the engineer

If in doubt, give us a call on 01277 525 020 or email drawings and photos and we will say what we think before you book.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Precast concrete panel joints
  • Cladding panel joints
  • Blockwork control joints
  • Brickwork movement joints
  • Car park decks and ramps
  • Podiums and floor movement joints

Our process

The first thing on site is a walk round with your contact, agreeing which joints are in scope, where to start and what must stay open. After that, any old or failed material is removed, each joint is prepared and the new sealant goes in. Rural sites near Gushmere may need directions, gate codes or a contact on site. Add it to your enquiry and we’ll build it into the plan.

  1. The first job is to check each joint: how wide it is, how it moves and why the old seal let go.
  2. You get a fixed quote with the product and its movement capability stated.
  3. We strip out the old seal and prepare the faces, and we tell you if any edges need repairing first.
  4. Backing rod goes in at the right depth, or bond-breaker tape where the joint is shallow.
  5. Where the maker calls for primer, it’s applied first, then the bead goes in and is tooled to a concave finish.
  6. We check every joint before sign-off, and the work carries our 12-month guarantee.

What we need from you

  • Flag any permit to work we’ll need
  • Explain the parking and delivery arrangements
  • Move anything stored against the joints

Specifications, drawings and tender packages are welcome with any enquiry, and we’ll price against exactly what is specified. For smaller jobs, photos and a description will do.

How the quote is worked out

Quotes vary with the job. Expect it to depend on:

  • Access and working height
  • The total length or number of joints
  • Removal of failed or old sealant
  • Joint width, depth and condition

Every site prices differently: joint size, product, access and site hours all play a part. Send the details and a fixed figure follows.

Sending details for a quote

Good information means a firmer quote. When you get in touch, include:

  • Where the site is, with the postcode
  • When you need the work done
  • Whether the building will be occupied during the work
  • Specification clauses that apply

Pricing a project or setting a maintenance budget? Send the scope and any drawings, and we’ll return a fixed quote that you can work with. If you have questions first, call the office on 01277 525 020 or email us.
