Common questions from Corrie clients
Is Corrie too small for you to travel to?
Not at all. Corrie is within our area. We cover the whole of Scotland. Send photographs and a list of what needs doing, and we will plan the job to need as few trips as possible.
Can you work to our programme on a site in or near Corrie?
Yes. The mastic is planned around your key stages. We are CHAS accredited and a Constructionline member, and paperwork such as RAMS is confirmed with the quote.
When can the area be used after sealing?
That comes down to the sealant and the temperature. Some products skin over quickly but need longer to cure fully, and we confirm it before leaving site.
Do you use the sealant named in the specification?
We use the product the specification names. Any suggested alternative is put to you before anything changes.
What joints do you seal on a new build?
Window and door perimeters, internal decorators’ caulk where specified, sanitary joints, kitchens, movement joints and snagging. We price to the specification and drawings.
How long will the new sealant last?
There’s no fixed lifespan: movement, exposure, cleaning, traffic and the product all play a part. Treat them as maintenance items and inspect them regularly.
Will you quote for a small job?
Single areas, one-off repairs and whole buildings are all quoted the same way: send details, get a fixed quote, we seal, guaranteed.
Construction mastic in Corrie
Refurbishment work needs a slightly different approach from new build. Old beads come out completely, as fresh silicone can’t grip old. After that, the joints are prepared and sealed to the specification. If you are dealing with missed perimeter joints on a new elevation and different trades sealing to different standards, we can help, whatever the surface. A single leaking joint is often how a building in Corrie first comes to us: we look at the rest while we’re there and tell you what we find.
Construction around smaller Scottish places like Corrie is often one-off schemes: a school, a health centre, a hotel extension or a few houses. Exposed elevations in Scotland put facade and perimeter joints to work from day one, so the sealant choice matters.
Our 12-month guarantee is about workmanship, not wear and tear. Sealant wears with time, and movement, weather, cleaning and use decide how fast, so we spell out the cover before we begin.

Common problems we fix in Corrie
Three-sided adhesion is a frequent fault on new work. Fixed to three faces, the sealant rips the first time the joint opens.
Site and facilities staff are often the first to spot these:
- Oversized or tapered gaps around new frames
- Sanitary sealant damaged by following trades
- Old sealant on a refurbishment that needs stripping before new work
- Window and door perimeters that won’t pass inspection
For a contractor at a hotel such as Corrie Hotel, 0.6 miles north of Corrie, the mastic often has to be finished before a reopening date.

What the job involves on each surface
Fire-rated sealant where specified
Where the specification calls for fire-rated or intumescent sealant around service penetrations or linear gaps, we install it to the manufacturer’s tested detail. The design and sign-off of fire stopping sit with the designer, principal designer or fire engineer.
Internal decorators’ caulk
Caulk is easy to apply badly. Done properly, it saves decorators time and gives a clean line and keeps the snag list down.
On site: what to expect
Our CSCS-carded applicators arrive with the sealants, primers and backing rod the job calls for. Joint faces are cleaned back to sound, dry surfaces, the manufacturer’s primer is applied where it’s called for, and the sealant is tooled off neatly. Tell us who will meet us and how to get in at your building near Corrie. That goes into the plan alongside the quote.

Honest limits
We seal joints; we don’t mend everything behind them. Sealant alone won’t deal with:
- Fire-stopping design or sign-off (that’s for the designer, fire engineer and building control)
- Defective windows, doors or glazing units (the supplier or installer’s job)
- Joints damaged after sign-off by following trades
If in doubt, call the office on 01277 525 020 or email the details over and we’ll say what we think.
Surfaces we seal
- Internal decorators’ caulk
- Brick and block movement joints
- Sanitary and kitchen joints
- Cladding and panel joints
- Floor and skirting junctions
- Window and door perimeters
What else we do in Corrie
After the work
A few simple habits keep the new joints working:
- Flag uneven or tapered frame gaps early
- Note which sealant went where at handover
- Ask cleaners to use soft cloths around fresh sealant
- Allow flexibility for external sealing in damp or cold weather
Any damage after we have finished should go on the snag list straight away. We can return to clear snags before handover as agreed in the quote.
A missed perimeter seal on one window can wet the reveal and the plaster inside. On a new building that means remedial work after decorating. Checking perimeters before internal finishes go on avoids it.
Construction mastic around Corrie: points for this area
Corrie is within about 1 mile of the coast. Facades and window perimeters on coastal schemes take more wind-driven rain, and salt air nearer the shore, so joint design, primers and product choice deserve extra care. Scotland has its own building regulations, and in Corrie warrants come from the local authority verifier. Our job is to seal to that specification.
Sites around Corrie get mastic sealed to the drawings and the programme, nothing improvised.

How the quote is worked out
Each job is priced on its own details. The things that drive the figure:
- Whether the work must be split into stages
- How accessible the joints are
- The product specified
- The site’s rules and procedures
There’s no price list, since every building and every scope is different. Call for a quote.
What we need to price the job
A good diagnosis starts with the right details. Let us know:
- What the building is and how it’s used
- The site address and postcode
- The asbestos register, for older buildings
- How the joints are reached, and at what height
Quotes are fixed against the scope you send, so you know the figure before anyone is on site. To ask for one, call the office on 01277 525 020 or send photos by email.
